I am so tired of this crap! What about my rights? I am so damn tired of hearing about the suffering of groups ABand C especially from the gay commmunity! What about the fact that I DON'T want to only have gender nuetral bathrooms? What about the safety of me and my kids? I don't want to stop at a rest area or go to a bathroom for which a man could be in! I am a woman and when I pull down my pants to use the restroom I want to know that the person sitting in the stall next to me is a woman!
Clearly you missed the point of the film's message, (or maybe did not make it to the end of the film) and your ignorant comment clarifies the continued need for this video and the need to advocate for Family Accessible restrooms. Your rights would be better protected and your restrooms cleaner and safer if they were family friendly. Good luck with your world!
I am just assumed to be with whatever gender person I am with. By myself, I do get weird looks if I go into the lady's room. I have even had security stop me when I was going to the lady's room and tell me I can't go in. After he heard my voice he apologized even though I told him I was not a man or a woman and that I just needed somewhere to pee.

Why is it that people who are "Transgendered" make such fucking waves about people accepting everything about them? This is YOUR issue, not mine, not my kids, not anybody else's get it? If you have a penis, go into the men's room. If you have a vagina go into the ladies room. Did we miss this part of kindergarten? If you have hacked your penis off you STILL go into the men's room. If you have had an "addadicktome" you STILL go into the ladies room. UNDERSTAND NOW? Stop the B.S.
Lol I remember one time after a movie was finished like everybody went the bathroom then when I was walking into the bathroom it was like scene in a movie as if I was walking in slow motion with every lady staring at me.
I don't know how anyone has a hard time identifying a butch woman, because I don't. How do you see a dyke in a women's restroom and confuse her with a man? Do people live under rocks?
yeah, this has happened to me lots of times. people usually walk back out of the bathroom and check the sign. then i get strange looks and comments :/

I remember once when I was younger, I was at the movie theater and I walked past this group of asshole teeny bopper girls and they go, "Oh my god! Was that a he-she!" And I turned around and went up to them and pointed to my chest and said, "Tits, you morons! Tits!"

this is a good clip to tell people to watch to not have to justify and explain ourselves constantly. the article from NYT also that was mentioned. i'll use these citations to help me in this process of pushing for gender neutral restrooms at my school. I kind of don't get why we don't have unisex bathrooms already. -___- It's so ridiculous.

Man, I always feel anxious when using public restrooms and I try to avoid it. I think about it too when I'm at the movies, like the example Melissa mentioned in the video.
I get stared at and I've had times where ladies have seen me in the women's room, then went back out to take another look at the sign, then looked confused, they just came into the bathroom while giving me a weird look.
maybe try looking around you next time you wake up from the street that you live on... Don't dress like a dude and expect people to give a shit that you have some realization that you were born a man or a woman and are in your mind a different gender. Its wierd.
Oh man. Ive had so many issues with the girls bathroom. Ive had security start yelling at me to get out and all this other crap. I had this old women tell me that i was lieing and that there was absolutly no way that i was possibly a girl. And that she was going to protect her granddaughters from me......crazy people.
Great film. I am always getting told that I am in the wrong bathroom. I've had security called on me twice now in Penn Station, NYC. The cop even knocked on the stall door saying "Sir? Sir? Men are not allowed in the women's bathroom." I said, hold on a sec. Finished. Stepped out, and said, "That's good to know...but I'm a woman." and walked away. He was very sheepish, and said, oh, sorry, they told me you were a man. {I wasn't even looking all that butch that day!}
lol. dude this happens to me a lot! I've gotten beat once too. o.e".....I had to show them my ID to show them I wasn't lieing about me being a girl. It was just....weird.
I've never had this issue before, but I see how it could be a problem. A friend of mine has mentioned that she doesn't feel comfortable using the public womans rest room alone. I REALLY want to know if anyone's got the mp3 for "Wrong Bathroom" by Tribe 8. I've been looking everywhere for it! Please, message me!
the only place you really find a unisex bathroom is in small gas stations in small towns...i'm not transgendered, but i've been lucky enough to work in 2 such places like that in my small town. if it's a single bathroom or small bathroom and there's a woman in the ladies and i REALLY gotta' go...i will use the men's...it's a tricky issue for sure. the cost of changing construction is what makes it a huge issue...dumb, but true
I understand the issue and want of gender neutural bathrooms, but i feel the gender seperation of bathrooms is to reduce the rate of Male to female sexual assault. Like in a scenario where one person goes to the neutral bathroom alone, there could be someone waiting in there to cause them harm. This is less likely to happen in a gender separated bath room. If there is a movement for gender neutral bathrooms, there needs to be a bathroom monitor, to make sure no one is molested.
I'm religious, conservative, middle-aged; I've never seen anyone challenged in a women's restroom. But if I did, I would certainly stick up for the person. The only legitimate reason is fear of rape in a secluded space.
Let me know how you want me to defend your rights. This shouldn't be a problem for anyone. Talk about human rights!
I'm not trans or gay or anything, but I do belive gender neutral bathrooms are absolutely essential to reduce the sexuality of today's society, especially in matters that deal with nature. It's more than just making transvestites feel comfortable, more important, is the fact that people should be comfortable with who they are. Remember, we all are human, and we all need to urinate or have a bowel movement.
For that same reason, I do believe nudity should be allowed anywhere it is safe (i.e. not in places like a construction site) People do not realize that such acts and nudism are perfectly intended by nature. I do agree that we shouldn't be urinating or defecating in public, but if we walked around town naked and occasionally stopped into a gender neutral restroom; would society be so sexual?
Sex is a physical act between two consenting persons, for pleasure or expression of love.
Ah the amount of times I've been told I'm in the wrong bathroom. Once it happened when I was peeing at a urnial in the middle of peeing a guy turned to me and said I think your in the wrong bathroom ma'am. I was actually kind of flattered. BTW sorry if that was TMI
I'm not entirely sure the issue is with the bathrooms, so much as with people being quick to judge or being bigots. Give it about 20-50 years and a good chunk of the bigotted morons will have died out. :) As for a short term solution, more of those family restrooms isn't a bad idea. I imagine it would be a LOT of effort to just make a series of single stall bathrooms everywhere. Could be nice tho. That would help the nervous pooers too!
i understand the issues with this that some people may have but, on the off hand.. my girlfriend is a pretty girl, and this gets her a lot of negative attention from other disgusting, piggish, males and i hardly feel that she is safe just walking around the streets because of all the creepers, and i cant even imagine her walking into a bathroom with other guys. with the divided ones there are some boundaries and i think it Does offer a bit of protection.. just use the right bathroom, you're you

What I don't get is how these people can possibly complain after a good look in the mirror because it is obvious to me that they are deliberately doing things look confusing. The lady in the black shirt ought to try PINK FLOWERS and EARRINGS for a change, because it sure does work for me! I never encounter this problem, and yes my hair is short. The other freak isn't wearing a short haircut, that's a FREAKING MOHAWK! Why not wear a diaper if you're going to be so flamboyant & contrary to nature?
To bring a non-american view to this: In germany nobody really cares when women use free cabins in the men's toilet if there is a large queue in front of the women's toilet aslong as they "hurry" in and out and don't stare (the other way around is another issue ...)
In case of most of the poeple shown in this video: why not just use the one you "look more like"? The cabins work pretty much the same way ;P
I did that in Germany... on a ski trip and all the girls fromthe bus went loo and there was two toilets... so i went in the mens which was free and i heard a load of laughing and i came out and an old man was peeing but the room was quite small so .. it was a tad mebarresing....lol
I had some old woman freak out on me when I walked into the bathroom at the mall today. She was seriously about to attack me, but then I was like "Hey, I'm a girl!" and she got all embarrassed. It was kind of funny. I just try to get in, get out, and not make eye contact.
I can completely understand where your coming from. I have held it for so long waiting for a bathroom that I knew I could just go and pee in peace! It's so frusterating. My friend and I went to 3 bathrooms at 6 flags before we finally gave up and waited till we got home.

What exactly is this about? Gender-confused people using the wrong bathrooms or something? Or people who look like the opposite gender using the right bathroom? Eh?
This is a great video! Shani was kind enough to let me use part of it for a class project and it went really well. Thank you, Shani for this informative look at transgender issues.
i dont know of a single unisex bathroom on campus. i live itn the UK and there arnt many anyway but there are out transgender staff n students n a tone who arnt.
Cool video, I have the same problem (big surprise there :)).
We have unisex bathrooms at my work, but elsewhere it sucks. I feel like I have to apologize every time I encounter a confused woman, who tells me: "You do know that this is a women's restroom?!"

I hate bathrooms. As a gender variant person I have been verbally assaulted twice in the women's washroom. I was born in a female body but now identify as ftm and am confused about which bathroom to use since I currently don't look like either.
why do you need a huge amount of privacy in a public restroom? If you want to read the newspaper or cut your toe nails you can also use your own bathroom.
and why would your privacy be hurt if you share restrooms with a different sex? that's kinda sexism, isn't it?
one thing you need to realize, if a woman goes into a mens room, nobody would care, but if a man walked in to the womens room, that same woman would probably call the police
yea my college definatly needs a unisex bathroom... im tired of getting stopped by security.... before i enter i restroom i usually take out my ID, hold it up and bow my head to the floor and take in the laugher around me.. it aint right.... could i please use the bathroom between the mens and womens room? there's usually a water fountain there! haha
You know I used to stress out about this issue too but now if I'm questioned I just say I am a transsexual and I need to pee! 'mazing what confidence can do. Of course it helps that Canadian TS' are allowed to use the womens BR or mens if hey are FTM.

@boozepleaze- Three questions:
1- Is there a reason you watched this documentary?
2- What if a person doesn't have male OR female anatomy? Or what if they have both?
3- Do you have supporting evidence suggesting men and women are "wired totally different"? Because all the research I've done suggests otherwise.

Why not wear a diaper if you're going to be so flamboyant & contrary to nature?

this video really makes a good point. It has to be hard as hell to go through that.

Cornetto616 3 years ago
I did that in Germany... on a ski trip and all the girls fromthe bus went loo and there was two toilets... so i went in the mens which was free and i heard a load of laughing and i came out and an old man was peeing but the room was quite small so .. it was a tad mebarresing....lol

I had some old woman freak out on me when I walked into the bathroom at the mall today. She was seriously about to attack me, but then I was like "Hey, I'm a girl!" and she got all embarrassed. It was kind of funny. I just try to get in, get out, and not make eye contact.

Can't relate, but I can sympathize. Must be pretty awkward. I don't care who is in a bathroom with me, guy or girl, as long as they leave me alone.

Cool video, I have the same problem (big surprise there :)).
We have unisex bathrooms at my work, but elsewhere it sucks. I feel like I have to apologize every time I encounter a confused woman, who tells me: "You do know that this is a women's restroom?!"
Yeah, I do...

I hate bathrooms. As a gender variant person I have been verbally assaulted twice in the women's washroom. I was born in a female body but now identify as ftm and am confused about which bathroom to use since I currently don't look like either.

I think we shouldn't have unisex bathrooms! its a total violation of privacy!
zenroxursox 4 years ago
How? There are stalls. You still have privacy.
TheGodMar 4 years ago 4
why do you need a huge amount of privacy in a public restroom? If you want to read the newspaper or cut your toe nails you can also use your own bathroom.
and why would your privacy be hurt if you share restrooms with a different sex? that's kinda sexism, isn't it?
Presskuss 4 years ago 7
one thing you need to realize, if a woman goes into a mens room, nobody would care, but if a man walked in to the womens room, that same woman would probably call the police

You know I used to stress out about this issue too but now if I'm questioned I just say I am a transsexual and I need to pee! 'mazing what confidence can do. Of course it helps that Canadian TS' are allowed to use the womens BR or mens if hey are FTM.
