@sweety54 because i live in india and it has been widely reported and discussed here in the media. only the two kids, youngest latika and salim are from slums. by one with good english you mean 'middle' jamal (actor: tanay chadda). he is pretty known actor. he has acted in some of the super hit films of bollywood (e.g. 'tare zameen par' and 'my name is khan').

lol tanay (who played the adolescent jamal) was in my united nations conference in mumbai. He was the delegate of russia in the financial committee, he cracked a lot of jokes, in general he was a very fun and down to earth guy!

I think it deserved it, its the case of the movie that could, plus those other movies already got their critical accalim and sacks of cash, these kids got nothing but a little money and their homes demolished.

No it's overrated The Dark Knight had better cinematography and a better director. And this movie will be forgotten in the next couple of years just like all the other overated movies that won best picture.

the dark knight kicked ass I'll admit that, but I think that if it wasn't for hollywood capatalising on heath ledger's death (which was a a huge loss for the movie industry god bless him) then the movie wouldn't have had gotten as much money as it did. plus that and I think the first batman is better but thats imo. :D

No all of the other performances were good as well they were just underrated. And if you think the first Batman directed by Tim Burton was better than your a dumb ass. And once again this movie was highly overrated!! I can think so many other movies that were better this year than this.

Heath's performance was the only thing great about the movie so was the the direction of Christopher Nolan. Just wait in a couple of years Slumdog will join the group of undeserving oscar winners along with Ordinary People, Chariots on Fire, and The English Patient.

Omigosh...I absolutely LOVE and ADORE these kids...all of them...I was so happy that they were at the Oscars!!! The boys looked so cute in their tuxedos and the girls were adorable in their dresses!
