left hand slaps water thus impeding momentum. right hand okay. we must remember every error in technique is magnified so much more that racing through air.
@leweb2000 There is no "set" way to enter the water... how the hand goes in doesn't matter... it's what it does AFTER it gets in. Thanks for the post though.
@goswim098 - The general rule is to avoid entering with thumb first as this increase the pressure on your rotator cuffs and the associated injuries. Fingertip first is def. the way to go
@sdoofette - I think it's also important that you understand not everyone is created the same. What works for one person, doesn't necessarily work for everyone. People that develop a single system which to swim in, aren't really understanding the individuality of all the knowledge necessary to be a great teacher. There isn't one answer for everyone, although there may be one answer for you personally. That's the search you need to be on. Guess it's fingertip for you. Congrats for discovery.
@Sand10waterpolo from what I understand he means under the water, in which case, it is the exact opposite to what you said, low elbow underwater creates more stress, more likley to provoke injuries. High elbow is better

@goswim098 Entering with thumb first also helps swimmers who cross over the centre line which slows you down a lot more.

you don't want your arms too high in the air because you want them to go as fast as they can in the water so you can get more pulls in
