i dont really like albies how do u even cast one, anyway the penn special senater 113h wide holds 1000 yards of 80lb braid and can cast up to 100 yards its made in america too, either that or a penn 950 spinning reel holds 500 yards of 80lb braid and can cast 100 yards, both great shark reels for the beach, and both are greatly priced at 150 US dollars
@TheFishingDVD Then it's from the Jack family,right? I heard you say that it fought hard for a fish it's size. There's no telling how many times an angler has said that after landing a 1 or 2 pound Crevalle for the first time. We catch a lot of Blue Runners and Pompano here in the northern Gulf of Mexico. They also fight like mad for fish their size and look similar to the 'dart'. Thanks for the reply. It's always nice to learn about species I've never heard of.
The funny thing is what you call JACKS, we call trevally, and what we call jacks, you call SNAPPER.
I like to simplify it for myself - they are fish and they're ALL GOOD - just that some are more good than others, and the Jack/Trevally family are some of the GOODEREST fish there is!
@TheFishingDVD Yeah, I've noticed that. What you might call a potato cod, I call grouper and what I call king mackeral you call spanish mackeral. You're right, they are all fish and we should feel blessed just to get out and catch them and be out on the water. Good fishing!
@cndog156 I have always found it interesting how species names vary from country to country.You can see this from the conversation above from a few months ago. I was suprised to learn that Australia have Cobia. I used to think that these fish were found only in the Western Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico where I fish. It was from Australian waters that the current world record Cobia was taken, beating out the old Pensacola or Destin, Florida catch of 131 pounds.I've seen some monsters in the Gulf.
It is an Alvey Reel. This is an 'A' type Alvey reel. Casting them is a bit different from your standard spin reel, but once mastered you will cast a lot further. Check out the Alvey website: alvey.com.au

@curtgowdysharkhunter
If you are going to use a geared reel on the beach, then these tips are even more important to you.
FYI : Alvey Reels can also cast 100 yards in the hands of a skilled caster.
The main thing is that you enjoy your fishing, whatever tackle you use.

A no problem reel for surf fishing!

What strength line are you using in this video? Is it mono-filament?
chicks123 6 months ago
@chicks123
We were using monofilament, 6 pound breaking strain.
Some beach anglers are opting to use braided lines, which has advantages AND disadvantages in the surf.
Depending on the fish we are chasing, we may go up to 15 or 20 lb braking strain line.

what species of fish was that you were bringing in there at the end of the vid?

@kingmackattack42
That was a 'dart'. It is a close cousin of the permit (snub nosed dart)
