@jeepers2655 The ties were basically rotted and there were several derailments several weeks in a row and Union Pacific decided to rebuild the entire line in year 2003 and that basically fixed the issue. Then Union Pacific sold the line in 2009.
@atani10 Union Pacific used to run this coal/cement train between Watsonville yard and the cement plant in Davenport. As of November 2009 that cement plant permanently shut down so this Union Pacific train officially no longer exists between Watsonville and Davenport as of November 2009. They said the Sierra Northern RR supposedly was going to buy this branch line and run tourist trains on it. If you search my youtube account I have other vids of this Union Pacific Santa Cruz Local train.
Shortly after this derailment in the year 2003 Union Pacific compleatly 100% re-built the entire 31 mile Santa Cruz Branch Line from Watsonville to Davenport.
Then I heard now that the economy basically killed the cement plant in Davenport so the Santa Cruz Local hardly ever runs on the line any more.
If the city of Santa Cruz bought the line and turned it into a toures train round trip from Watsonville to Davenport it would be quite a site.
or someone stealing the spikes, would cause this also.....
