  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • That magic mouth-harp, a quick witted front man, coupled with a great backing band, and the extraordinary guitar wizardry of Charlie Baty has garnered the Nigthcats many fans, I've been a die-hard fan of theirs for years and own most of their albums.

  • One of the all-time great jump bands imo. Lived in Sacramento for fifteen years, saw these guys often. There was also a popular local Zydeco band I saw a couple of times but can't remember their name. Anyone help out on that? This would be late eighties early nineties.

  • Maravilha, obrigado May pelo post !!!

  • LC&TNC were cool... I saw them many, many times back in the 80s at Melarkey's, Lord Beaverbrooks, etc. Partied with them between sets, back in the kitchen. Rick was cool, but Charlie always wanted to know how much the take was at the door. :) Thanks guys for all the great performances.

  • Borat plays harp!?

    Niiiice. I like!

  • buenisimo

  • This is how to play the bluesharp. Seen them alive in Tiel (of all places). Fabulous!!

  • Its wonderful to hear Rick Estrin play harmonica , listen to Marions Mood ...I have never heard anyone play more like Little Walter (both tone and ampsound) and to see him play this Sonny Boy tune is awesome

  • aaaah como me vuela la cabeza esto...

  • I,ve seen Lil Charlie & the N.C. @ the King Biscuit Blues fest. a few years ago. " No one put on a show like them" I'd love to see them again as soon as they come to Louisiana

  • Great harmonica! But I think Lars Lundberg in the Swedish jumpblues band Steamin' Jesaja is better! :-)

  • Several weeks ago, the Gene Taylor Blues Band (most of The Blasters) came to Winters, CA to play. Rick Estrin was low profile in the audience. At intermission, a local music lover alerted the band to his presence so they called Rick up to join them. After a song or two, all the musicians were in perfect synch and the show just jumped to a whole other place. The band kept him up there for the whole second half and then brought him back for the entire encore.

  • crazy harp!!!

  • I seen theses guys in Gainesville FL

I gotta tell ya, they just blew the roof off the place!

The Harp player is just unbeleivable, I mean how the hell does he get all those sounds, and putting harp inside mouth? I am a Harp player too, but never have I seen or heard anything like this!

  • I saw these guys open for elvin bishop about five years ago I wished they were the main band so i could have seen them play longer. they were at harrahs in tahoe and after the show they were on the casino floor sighning autographs and talking to people i had the oppertunity to talk to rick estrin and charlie baty they were so down to earth that was such a great day for me!

  • wow!

  • OMG,, I saw this wicked awesome jump blues band in Perth Western Australia with my dad and uncles and boyfriend....in 1995.... I still have the flyer, This would have to be the best display of harmonica work in the world.... I have now watched this about 9651986415084175 times (well kinda!!) keep on posting more!!

  • I know the feeling!

  • Holy Shit. That is so smoooooth.

  • Superb guitar playing - a latter day Robert "Junior" Lockwood and a worthy successor to him

  • Oh Yeah!!,Little Charlie & the Night Cats on the money man & the blues just waiting to be heard. Kool breeeze!!! This is a great sounding song. Have to move thy feet..to this video.. They sound some what like, "James Day & The Fish Fry band"..

  • wow, great to see Brad Lee...

  • Best live act in the world!

  • This song is done with Estrin playing in the style of SB II......but you can definitely hear Estrin's style in there as well. I'd say if you can't tell the differences in here......then you haven't been paying attention.

  • Good job guys,

Keeping the blues alive and well'

  • blues is a tradtion of storytelling, why don't they say this same BS about jazz? It's all improvised standards! C'mon! ferchrissakes!

  • It's supposed to sound like a Sonny Boy tune!

Listen to some of their CDs and they tell me that Rick Estrin can't play with any originality!

  • Hurry up and stop down talking these cats,They got the mileage to prove that they aint about hyppe. They is what they is and they're loved around the world.

  • Maybe, but as a whole I think these guys have had their own voice since their debut album. But they can indeed get the classic stuff right.

Many times it seems that some blues band's self-claimed "originality" means blues progressions mixed with weary rock and fusion cliches, played through zillion effects and with zero dynamics..

But not these guys, one of my favourite groups. Thanks for posting.

  • Excuse me for being a jerk, I really like these guys but this song simply sounds like any Sonny Boy Williamson II tune.Estrin plays in his style throughout the whole song.

    I would prefer some originality...

  • Nothing wrong with paying tribute to SBWII - especially as 99.999% of harp players are either trying to ape Walter or Butterfield. You must be one of those "glass is half empty" guys. Or a jerk, as you say.

  • Nothing wrong with paying a tribute but this song is credited as 'Hurry Up and Wait' by Little Charlie & The Nightcats - it's supposed to be an original composition.I simply don't like to hear exactly the same thing that has been recorded 50 years ago.Yeah, I'm a "glass is half empty" type of guy and - thank God - also someone with a strict opinion about music.Hope you don't mind!

  • Is it in the style of SB II? Yeah, but if you can't hear Estrin's spin on it......then you don't listen to the nuances very well.

  • Yea, well I agree with AbuChowdah - any blues crowd worth its salt would recognise this as a SBW number in a matter of seconds. Plus - check out some of the Nightcats' albums and you'll soon hear that they're an innovative band.

  • Great vintage footage of the best band around today!

Thanks for posting...Got anymore of LCNC?
