@Wotansp I hope they do one about the massive defeat of the great army led by King Harald Hardrada at Stamford Bridge.300 ships full of 'vikings' came and only 24 ships were needed to carry the survivors back home to Norway!
Nice this songs about the battle of brunanburh my ancestor Æthelstan rose a army to drive the danes out of what is now modern england Thumbs up if your of livesay lineage and descendant of Æthelstan 1st king of england !
The Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons were enemies, I whole heartedly agree with the people who object to this being called Viking metal. If the Vikings hadn't depleted our forces and dragged us to the wrong end of the country at Stanford Bridge (although this was one of the greatest victories in the annals of English history) we may not have lost the Battle of Hastings. The Norwegians are indirectly responsible for the destruction of our heritage!
Ancient Spartans and Athenians were bitter enemies, but Greeks nevertheless! In the same vein, Angles, Saxons and "Vikings" (actually Danes, Norse & Svear) were indeed Germanic first cousins! Saxons came from what is now northern Germany, Angles from what is now southern Denmark, Jutes -obviously- from Jutland and Dane Vikings from the same place, only 3-4 centuries later! You could call this a glorified "civil war" spanning several centuries... Ain't History & Ethnology great? ;)
anglo saxons and the vikings where cousins, dunno why peeps alwys trying to argue on these threads what is pro and anti viking. the anglo saxons came over a few hundred years earlier is all.

@sgillespie13 But with that "cousin" theory they could be named after any other germanic tribe then, like for example frankish metal, they were their cousins too!
This isn't NSBM is it? I don't think anglo-saxon history has anything to do with national socialism. This is way too good music to be performed by narrowminded imbeciles.
Question: who does the drums? Are they programmed or what? Everywhere I've read about these guys, it never says anything about who does drums, unless I'm just missing something somewhere. Does anyone really know, or is it a mystery forever to be unsolved? =P
Putting that aside, awesome song here. As soon as I get more funds I'm definitely going to buy from them.
I was going to write to them and ask what program they use seeing as I have a solo project which is not disimilar to Forefather and I don't play drums or have a drum kit.
Exactly. XVictorious missed your point thoroughly. If the song tells about Saxons beating the crap out of viking and Scottish invaders, so I wouldn´t exactly call that viking metal.
torhjelm we saxons r the first vikings never forget it in whipered tales of thor we come in times of war we r their overlords the romans attempted to appoint a count of the saxon shore but we gathered pearls now we r their earls it is our destiny to accunulate gold ambergris and all the gems of araby
@MagnusBruce FINALLY! Someone who notices!!!! I am so sick and tired of every fucking shit being "Viking" Metal >.< It just makes me want to kill everyone of those fucking posers.
@Elvydnir Wow, I did not expect anyone to reply to that comment! Strangely, that was one of the few comments I actually remember writing. Also, it's surprising to think that I've been listening to forefather for more than two years now. Feels like less!

They are programmed from what I gather.
I was going to write to them and ask what program they use seeing as I have a solo project which is not disimilar to Forefather and I don't play drums or have a drum kit.
MagnusBruce 2 years ago
I figured they might be programmed. But the blast beats sound so real. Maybe they're using DFH perhaps?
Nice songs by the way. I also have a solo project, but I use Acoustica Beatcraft for it. =P
Caldera 2 years ago
You've got some great songs there! They could benefit from vocals of some sort though.
Keep playing though!

Thanks bro, same goes for you! =D

I can´t stop listening to this song.
Translation of the ending:
"Never was there more slaughter
on this island, never yet as many
people killed before this with sword's edge,
those who tell us from books, old wisemen,
Angles and Saxons over the broad sea
Britain they sought, the Welsh they overcame,
glorious warriors they took hold of the land."
torhjelm 2 years ago 3
Wouldn't calling this "viking metal" kinda defeat the objective of the lyrics/themes?!
MagnusBruce 3 years ago 27
Not really!
Amon Amarth are Melodic Death Metal and their lyrical themes are Vikings and Norse Mythology!
XVictoriousMarchX 2 years ago
There is viking metal though - Tyr and Falconbach for example.
They don't really fit into any other genre, but I guess they're a bit like a cross between folk and pagan metal.
As I said before, calling Forefather viking metal is about as useful as calling Amon Amarth Anglo Saxon metal...
