I was gonna say the weight played a factor in this race but the 08 only weighs like 120 pounds more than the 05 so now its obvious that is the cvt tranny. Off the line the cvt is good because it stays in its powerband the 05 which has a 5sp has to drop rpm's and go thru five gears which is why it lost.

1. the 05 does not fly by the 08. the 08 slowed down because there was a truck in front of the 08.

2. Performance is on the 08. The 08 has new CVT technology but same 3.5 VQ35 engine. The CVT dominates from 0-120 then tops out because ECU and mph limiter.

3. The 04-06 has a higher top speed because of the ECU and mph limiter.

4. Normal racing is a 1/8 or even 1/4 mile. In these 2 races the stock 08 dominated over the stock 05. Get over it. The CVT wins!!!

hey trell the 04s were 265 but on a OLD SAE HP rating system and for 2007 they calculated the engine HP using the new SAE system which now makes 255 so all along we all had 255 from begining .....

also 2007s are 3,590 curve weight while 2004 are 3,430 ........

plus add the fact a 5speed auto is better for racing no offence but normally a 6thgen will beat a 6.5 but hey no problems to me i drive a 6thgen and love all maximas in the end

The 2007 G35 had an over-sensitive throttle that Nissan retuned for the 08 model year because it was difficult to drive gently with all that power. That thing would haul ass like there was no tomorrow! Plant your foot in it and you'd get thrust back in the seat. It was a rush to drive.  Amazing car!
