Master Shantideva said "start with potatoes." The idea behind teaching people the cause for money is that if they see how it works, then they will be inspired to help others more.
Geshe Michael has given away all the money he made in business; mostly to support ACIP and Sera monastery; he drives a 1970s volvo. Give money, get money, use it to help others.
@ all of you people, Do research this guy is nether monk nor a business man he is a cult leAdr who has been excommunicated by the Dali Lama himself any one who falls for this is an idiot monks give up every thing they do not try to attain worldly pleasures
@xmorganconklinx you need to do more research and you need to learn more about this man than just trying to discredit him. everything he teaches is available for free. he is not trying to "sell" you anything. he is trying to help. this is not 1739AD. I know ordained monks who are millionaires and live in temples with no electricity. buddhism has to adapt to time and location. it does not try to force itself on people or convert people. you should learn something from it.
He's a monk. You have to look at the ancient traditions of the Yogis....many teachers choose unusual paths because different students need different approaches. Listen to what He is saying. Basically, if You want to be happy, start by helping someone else.
His life is devoted to giving away the key for free to YOU. The key is ...everything is a product of your kindness (or lack thereof) to others. See the Knowledge Base and other resources for amazing teachings. Judge him by his countless good works, not a 5 minute YouTube. Be kind - for your own sake.
He could give us the key. He also knows that 99.999% of the time if something is given away, the recipient doesn't value it - they value things as much as they have invested in them. Ever heard saying: Give a man a fish, he eats for a day - teach a man to fish he eats for a lifetime? it's like that. He isn't feeding us, he's teaching us how to feed ourselves - and THAT he gives away for free. UN-lame.
@5piles Good point, and the website does indeed have those courses. I stand corrected... just not the best way to promote this guy if mine is the typical skeptic's reaction.
@Cavadarossi7 from my understanding, after reading his books and researching his activities is that the things he promotes are for charity. you can attend free classes in 5 week terms at his institute in Arizona. he is doing good things. most buddhist monks do not live lives in pursuit of material gain. the profits from their seminars, books and teaching go to charities

If this guy is really so generous, why doesn't he just give us the key instead of promoting his events? Lame.
