I have NO patience for any stoat that comes to knock this guy. I'm here to tell ya, back in the late 1950's this entertainer ~ Pat Boone broke ALL attendance records at the world famous Steel Pier in Atlantic City, NJ. that's right, ALL records! Throughout, Pat has lived a good Christian life and furthermore is about as All-American as they come. Not to mention, the guy still sings great!
@squirell1952 In the 1950s Pat Boone was under contract to Dot Records, and sang what he was told to sing, so he stole nothing. If his songs were not original, neither were Elvis Presley's. Only Paul Anka and Roy Orbison sang their own stuff.
That song brought back sooo many memories of my Mom singing that song. She had a lovely voice and her voice just floated through the house when she sang. Thank You. LOL, Pam

@cukla88 Sorry to hear you don't like that about Pat because he's credited with exposing the "white" market to what was called "race" music in those days. In fact, if not for Pat's cover of "Tutti Fruitti," Little Richard was quoted as saying he'd "still be washing dishes in that Macon (GA) bus station."
@1tepenga :-) I had him in Germany in the early 60th when i was a teenager, then. But this good times endet with the sound of The Beatles and folks. Anyway, i have my memories. Poor Today-kids !
@cukla88 he was getting "the message" out to the "very buried" who were to scared to confront "race music" directly.Prejdiced DJs would not play the black artists so Elvis and sam phillips brought this music forward and pat brought it into the country club/ university cliques. He is child of the Bing Crosby/Perry Como genre and at the time the only "youngster with the class to pull that off.

A few years ago, I took some kind of a media relations class in college. One of the things we discussed was racism in the 1950's. I mean, we had white men like Pat Boone, and Elvis Presley covering songs that were written by black men, such as Little Richard, and Fats Domino, and having big hits with them, while their counterparts' versions were barely registering on the charts. I think Pat was trying to give these guys their big break, but we as Americans weren't accepting of it. Ignorance....
Replacing old code with new on our blog WES BRYAN - MY LIFE IN MUSIC. This song is in my book and I thank you for the historical music video! And yes, readers, I did work with Pat and he was and is a terrific human being! Wes Bryan
A variety of strange comments, some positive and some weirdly negative. When the smoke all clears, this is one of the top 20 slow songs of all time and this is a terrific video of it. Hope they don't take it off.
@LOCKED121 when the smoke clears lol, the smoke cleared decades ago and people know this man is a homophbis racist who like many artist of the day stole from a minority to better themselves
I looked up this vid and some kind of jap or chinese writing was at the top of the page, are the fuckin chinks listening to him now? He was a good man who cared about his fellow christian people! Amen.
All of you people have the wrong angle on Pat Boone altogether. It was Pat's
mission to bore real music lovers to death, and he succeeded in doing it with
a vengeance. The only interesting thing about the man was that he could whistle
at least half as well as Bing Crosby could, and that had a penchant for lousing
up fairly good tunes, "Love Letters In The Sand," for example. For those who care about such matters, he also claimed to be a descendant of Daniel Boone . . . aniel Boone
Pat Boone,a class act, i'm a mid forties black man and i can say this man stood for purity even as a young man, this man turned down movie roles because of the sinful message,if we could only have entertainers like that these days.
@karoslif I saw Pat Boone yesterday live in Denton, TX. Pat studied at The Univ. of North Texas in the mid 1950s before transferring to Columbia, & yesterday he did a little singing and a lot of reminiscing. Pat proudly points out that on his 1950s TV show he forced the show's sponsor (Chevrolet) to allow black performers on his show. He created a tolerant atmosphere where white audiences could enjoy great black performers. He was anything but "bland", an unfair label critics hang on him.
We love historical music videos at WES-BRYAN MY LIFE IN MUSIC. We added your video to a post from 2007 about Pat and on that post we have links to his official site as well as the link to VOTE for PAT so he can be admitted into the HALL OF FAME.
I hate Pat Boone, and Americans back then were the most racist people ever. Anyone who likes this guy, go to hell. he took advantage of the black people being uneducated and stole their songs. I'm not American, I'm Croatian. But boy am I happy that black people nowadays get so much more money than us because almost all of the athletes are black, and singers too. I've got to say, I'm proud of the African-Americans and of all of those discriminated black singers in the past.
@brothachiken023 you're definitely a maladjusted person, and Pat Boone could outsing any of the so called black singers of today, who are rappers...which is not singing. And no one deserves the kind of money that athletes and entertainers, regardless of race, are getting today, for the contributions they make to the world. You are carrying too much bitterness and it warps your viewpoint, Pat Boone didn't steal anything and wasn't racist...sounds like you are, though....get better soon
@brothachiken023 Yeah, I hate him for helping the black man get his music noticed and getting them money because he made covers, which gave them money. Little Richard said it himself, "I did not understand at the time, but Pat Bone helped me become more famous."
@brothachiken023 When did Pat Boone steal anybody's songs? I'd like to see some proof before you makes accusations like that.
It should be the lack of racism and not how many black celebrities or athletes, since race shouldn't matter - and I don't think you being Croation really matters either. Although I am proud about how some black people stood up to discrimination held against them, I don't think people should hold grudges, like you seem to, about things that happened years ago.
In the Billboard Book of #1 hits, it's listed as the 22nd of the rock era. The picture of Pat shows him on the phone, with a cigarette in his hand. I'm quite sure that he's long since quit by now, Amen? God bless ya, brother Pat!
@GoedhartbrosBecause Pat Boone neither Rocked, nor Rolled. He sucked the sexuality and rhythm out of the original versions of songs he covered, for the white teenagers whose parents were afraid of the "Negro" influence on their children. Pat Boone, and artists like Georgia Gibbs were the record companies answer on how to cash in on the new teenage craze for RnB or "Rock and Roll"- without having to promote the black artist who originally had the hit song on the RnB chart.
@rbound827 Why all the negativity about Pat? Fats Domino liked Pat. He is very famous and had a good friendship with Elvis Presley. Like Elvis, Alan Freed and Little Richard, he helped making black music more populair, you could respect him for that.
@Goedhartbros Unlike Presley,Carl Perkins, Gene Vincent etc Pat Boone was part of the establishment to sanitize rock and roll, and clean it up. Which really meant take out the "black" feel so that it all sounded like Perry Como or Doris Day. Thats fine if you like that style- but it's not Rock and Roll, which is why his recordings are forgotten about and Little Richard and Fats Domino prevailed. As a Pop singer Boone is fine-but he's not Rock and Roll.
@rbound827 stop all that hatin....Pat is a great singer and didn't steal things, just made his version of them, which is great singing too, by the way. Sounds like you're kinda racist yourself, hopefully you'll improve your misinformed view of things, good luck with that pal :-)
@ITILII Take a look at my channel before labeling someone a racist. I've forgotten more about the history of rock and Roll then you'll ever learn, so it is you who is misinformed. My argument concerning Boone is the fact that he had no right singing, or being called a "Rock and Roll" singer. I never said Boone stole anything- anyone can cover a song, but Boone sanitized the music, taking all the sexuality and wildness out of it, which was the whole core of RnR in the first place.
Pat is one of the greatest singer among the 50's beside Elvis, Roy Orbison, Jerry lee Lewis etc. But for me Pat has the most beautiful human voice, so Pat is for me the "GREATEST". In every Pat's song I enjoy his voice!
DID ANYONE EVER NOTICE AT THE :45 SECOND MARK PAT MAKE A COLOSSAL BLUNDER - HE SINGS "you made a vow that you would NEVER be true" Has no one ever noticed this for 54 years? lol
Love you Pat. Brother, You are one of my heros, but I thought that was funny when I heard it!
This song was released in May of 1957 and was his first million seller, although he had two hits that proceeded it; "Ain't that a shame and Friendly Persuasion." The latter record was the theme song for a popular movie of the same name. Pat was truely and all American Guy. He played Baseball, Basketball and track in school and attended a Christian Academy. His fans considered him the Good side of the force while his competion--Elvis was Darth Vader! Both had many Hits but Elvis prevailed!
@kjbullion u mean the kind of music that was written by the black segregated sommunity only to be stolen by men like him. He's a homophobic anti evolution nasty man
@noreexic I really scares me if you are any example of the kind of people that are going to be running this country or just plain populating it. I don't know what you did when you were supposed to be learning, but it's obvious that you
were busy doing something else. Like pulling the wings off of flies. You are sad.
@noreexic Before you end up looking like a bigger idiot than you already do, you might want to do a little what we that
actually paid attention in school as research before you go blowing your mouth about something you know nothing about. All of Pat's recordings were songs either written expressly for him or were songs that had been recorded
by other artists and he had the right to give them a chance himself.
@kjbullion There´s music like this today. I play this kind of music. It´s my life. You should go to my channel and view some of the music videos I made. I have recorded some oldies and I have recorded some Pat Boone songs too, and made a little video while I´m playing and singing.
Pat Boone is a devout Christian but he once admitted to Geraldo Rivera that he has had gay sexual relationships in the closet in Hollywood on and off for sixty years.
This tune was ripped off by ABBA in their song "I do, I do, I do, I do". I admit that the ABBA song is very nice, and perhaps even superior as a tune to Pat Boone's tune, but it's a rip-of.
Back then - Well we know he was an artist. Neatly combed hair, wering a suit.
If he would've been an artist now - He'd be singing some sort of hip-hop with a tight shirt on and some skinny jeans with a faux hawk. AMERICA IS A DISASTER!
@Thromnabular Being gay isn't a sin anymore than a man cutting his hair. The bible also says men are not to shave or cut their hair. Or get divorced or touch the skin of a pig, etc. But I guess I hate the sin of Christianity, but not Christians.
@billyboylb Anyone who says being gay isn't a sin hasn't read the Bible or hasn't read the Bible in a long time. There are many verses in the Bible that specifically mention being gay as a terrible sin. Oh fyi Sodom and Gamorah was SMITED because all the people there were gay. I don't think there were any people smited for cutting their hair. Besides the Bible never said not to cut your hair it was just a law for the JEWS to follow, not the Gentiles.
@Thromnabular I guess you are un-American and don't understand the concept of religious freedom as guaranteed in our US Constitution. I don't believe in the bible and as an American that is my right. Also Jesus himself NEVER said anything against homosexuality. However, in several passages (Gospel of Mark, Chapter 10, vs 11) he is adamantly against divorce. Would you therefore support a ban on heterosexual divorce? That is what truly has ruined the American family. Hypocrit.
@billyboylb I never said I supported divorce and I don't. Divorce is also technically a sin if you follow the Bible. And how am I "un-American"? I never said there was a law in the US against homosexuality, I said it was a sin. Which it is, if you believe in the Bible, unless you're telling me you believe in Jesus but not the Bible, the only proof of Jesus's existance.

I've got to say, I'm proud of the African-Americans and of all of those discriminated black singers in the past.
brothachiken023 1 year ago
@brothachiken023 you're definitely a maladjusted person, and Pat Boone could outsing any of the so called black singers of today, who are rappers...which is not singing. And no one deserves the kind of money that athletes and entertainers, regardless of race, are getting today, for the contributions they make to the world. You are carrying too much bitterness and it warps your viewpoint, Pat Boone didn't steal anything and wasn't racist...sounds like you are, though....get better soon
ITILII 1 year ago
@brothachiken023 Yeah, I hate him for helping the black man get his music noticed and getting them money because he made covers, which gave them money. Little Richard said it himself, "I did not understand at the time, but Pat Bone helped me become more famous."
TheDJGrandPa 11 months ago

Why is Pat Boone not in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
Goedhartbros 1 year ago
Comment removed
rbound827 1 year ago
@GoedhartbrosBecause Pat Boone neither Rocked, nor Rolled. He sucked the sexuality and rhythm out of the original versions of songs he covered, for the white teenagers whose parents were afraid of the "Negro" influence on their children. Pat Boone, and artists like Georgia Gibbs were the record companies answer on how to cash in on the new teenage craze for RnB or "Rock and Roll"- without having to promote the black artist who originally had the hit song on the RnB chart.
rbound827 1 year ago
@rbound827 Why all the negativity about Pat? Fats Domino liked Pat. He is very famous and had a good friendship with Elvis Presley. Like Elvis, Alan Freed and Little Richard, he helped making black music more populair, you could respect him for that.
Goedhartbros 1 year ago
@Goedhartbros Unlike Presley,Carl Perkins, Gene Vincent etc Pat Boone was part of the establishment to sanitize rock and roll, and clean it up. Which really meant take out the "black" feel so that it all sounded like Perry Como or Doris Day. Thats fine if you like that style- but it's not Rock and Roll, which is why his recordings are forgotten about and Little Richard and Fats Domino prevailed. As a Pop singer Boone is fine-but he's not Rock and Roll.
rbound827 1 year ago
@rbound827 yep and Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles are definitely NOT rock and roll either
ITILII 1 year ago
@ITILII No they aren't
rbound827 1 year ago
@rbound827 stop all that hatin....Pat is a great singer and didn't steal things, just made his version of them, which is great singing too, by the way. Sounds like you're kinda racist yourself, hopefully you'll improve your misinformed view of things, good luck with that pal :-)
ITILII 1 year ago
@ITILII Take a look at my channel before labeling someone a racist. I've forgotten more about the history of rock and Roll then you'll ever learn, so it is you who is misinformed. My argument concerning Boone is the fact that he had no right singing, or being called a "Rock and Roll" singer. I never said Boone stole anything- anyone can cover a song, but Boone sanitized the music, taking all the sexuality and wildness out of it, which was the whole core of RnR in the first place.

Cuando yo casar-me, si yo estuvier escuchando una radio que esté ejecutando canciones americanas de los 50´s, voy a telefonar para la radio y dedicar una canción de Pat Boone a mi mujer. Hasta sé cual será: April Love.

Both had many Hits but Elvis prevailed!

by other artists and he had the right to give them a chance himself.

Isn't he one of those gay-hating "Christians?"
billyboylb 1 year ago
@billyboylb hate the sin not the person thats what i always say
Thromnabular 1 year ago
@Thromnabular Being gay isn't a sin anymore than a man cutting his hair. The bible also says men are not to shave or cut their hair. Or get divorced or touch the skin of a pig, etc. But I guess I hate the sin of Christianity, but not Christians.
billyboylb 1 year ago
@billyboylb Anyone who says being gay isn't a sin hasn't read the Bible or hasn't read the Bible in a long time. There are many verses in the Bible that specifically mention being gay as a terrible sin. Oh fyi Sodom and Gamorah was SMITED because all the people there were gay. I don't think there were any people smited for cutting their hair. Besides the Bible never said not to cut your hair it was just a law for the JEWS to follow, not the Gentiles.
Thromnabular 1 year ago
@Thromnabular I guess you are un-American and don't understand the concept of religious freedom as guaranteed in our US Constitution. I don't believe in the bible and as an American that is my right. Also Jesus himself NEVER said anything against homosexuality. However, in several passages (Gospel of Mark, Chapter 10, vs 11) he is adamantly against divorce. Would you therefore support a ban on heterosexual divorce? That is what truly has ruined the American family. Hypocrit.
billyboylb 1 year ago
@billyboylb I never said I supported divorce and I don't. Divorce is also technically a sin if you follow the Bible. And how am I "un-American"? I never said there was a law in the US against homosexuality, I said it was a sin. Which it is, if you believe in the Bible, unless you're telling me you believe in Jesus but not the Bible, the only proof of Jesus's existance.
