Regarding the The landslide election victory of Hamas (the Islamic Resistance Movement) back in early 2006, a truly democratic party must reject violence, intimidation, and terrorism, not only against its own people but also against other nations, even if they are historic enemies. There should be no tolerance for the fiction of distinguishing between a "political wing" and a "military wing" of a party.

Opening the door to political movements such as Hamas to compete in elections (without first dropping their reliance on violence) will only allow them to subvert democracy and establish a stranglehold on political power.

As much as I'm against military occupation in Palestine by the Israeli militant government, I am also equally against the militant group Hamas as both kill innocent Palestinian and Israeli civilians. Even if more Palestinians are disproportionatly killed to Isreli's, I sympathy for those caught in the conflict between extremists on both sides. What I find confusing about this is in 1975 General Abrams engineered "The Golden Handshake" which essentially relegated active duty to combat roles and reservist to combat support roles. The purpose of this agreement was to insure that never again (ie Vietnam) would the active duty forces bear 99% of the load in a large scale war.

So, what exactly does this agreement mean? I have difficulty imagining an Iraq where the only U.S. presence is reservists. It is confusing.

Winning the battle and winning the war are two different things. The German Leopard and the Panther tanks were two of the best tanks in the 1940's and they could easily beat our Sherman tanks 1 on 1.  However we could produce 4 tanks to their one. And they had to fight on several fronts also.

China can produce more tanks than us and wwe are already spread too thin with too many enemies. If we make the wrong move then history has a way of repeating itself with different actors.
