I've played through the entire game on the 360 and have on the pc as well, and aside from the music being somewhat slower, the speed of gameplay to me has no noticeable difference.
Do you move forward/back and strafe with the left analog stick, or do you move forward/back and turn with the left analog stick? Can you change the stick layout or not? This is sort of important to me. Please let me know, Thanks.
nice review elbryan42; is the game 16:9 or 4:3? i was about to purchase this one, but now that you say it's a little bit slower than the classsic pc version i have my doubts; i guess i will purchase a PSOme classic instead; any advice from you, wolf3d or psone?
Pretty good review but the music isn't that much slower and I don't really know what you mean by the controls/gameplay being slower, but I haven't played the PC version too much. In my opinion, this is the perfect port. Either that or it's the best port we're going to get.
@kingroland900 be playing Xbox or Nintendo NES, get 80, you die or become, it's in our blood to begin with, the video game consoles ever been given an age rating, say rather are designed for elderly people old
I see the diffrence in the speed, being able to sprint from an end of a hall to the next in less than a second is an impact, but can you circle strafe in the original? Anyway, love the DOOM (Play it all the time) and Duke Nukem praise, but there's no mention of Marathon. I was sad Bungie took a contract with Microsoft (Apple Fan), but anyone like Marathon? BTW I was an Apple fanatic until they dropped Motorolla chips, and Mac's used to get free tech support indefinitely (FYI, Mac users).
go wolf 3d and screw you who says it suxs thanx to this we got fps games and doom :p best games for theyre time i love oldschool games i even got my old n64 XD with like 30 games
thank you john carmack, and john romero, for laying the foundation of the fps genre. im not a big fan of the genre now, however, the wolfenstein, doom, and quake series will forever have a place in my heart. thank you elbryan, for the upload.
Though I love the straight port of Doom, Duke Nukem 3D is so much more. The deathmatch is much better (Doom 1's maps aren't very deathmatch friendly besides a handful, Doom 2 was MUCH better) and with on screen stats and more levels.
So, I'd go with Duke Nukem 3D, though Doom is a VERY close second. I'd pass on Wolfenstein 3D. Wolf3D is still great, but there's just so much more you can do with Doom and Duke3D.
So? It's a World War II shooter. That doesn't make it racist. You're always shooting or attacking something in games. That doesn't mean there's some social commentary attached to it.
I enjoyed this game just as much on the SNES with the Nazi references taken out.
I am more used to FPSes like Resistance 2, but I have a soft spot for Wolf 3D. Do you still recommend this port to peple like me who play more modern FPSes, or am I better off?
loved the original and love the port.. I remember skipping school when I was 12 back in 92 and playing this spending hours going along every wall looking for a hidden passage.
Funny.. I bought this port and the new COD Map pack and I was actually playing this more lol.
The sound is the only thing that ported terribly.
Hope for a Spear of Destiny port.. but I doubt that will happen.
Well we saw Doom on XBLA and if Doom and Doom II were to be released on PSN it would have to be PSX Doom because it is a PSOne Classic. Also I'd love to see a Spear of Destiny port as well but we need a patch that'll fix the midi because it is so slow and its Soundblaster16/Adlib sound (original did have it but really the ports had some fantastic versions)
Which port would you rather hate this one or the sucky piece of shit SNES version (the one that Id would later give away to become Super Noah's Ark 3D)
This one. They slowed it down, it locks up, and overall they modified a "direct" port.
The SNES version has the best control of the older versions, and besides the censorship (which doesn't effect the gameplay whatsoever) the heart of Wolfenstein is truly there.
The gameplay in this seemed fine to me, however I do have the PS3 version so I don't think I could tell the differences between that and the Xbox 360. My version has never locked up but then again it might happen.
The censorship is why I call it a piece of crap, my reason is looking at DOOM's SNES port which kept the blood and satanic images IIRC (I haven't played the SNES version for awhile so I could be wrong). In the SNES Wolfenstein it didn't feel that you were in Nazi Occupied territory.
ummm.... the music is slower? uhh no its not, its exactly the same everything is the same as the old dos version....try doing research before reviewing a game next time ok? btw i know this because i own the ps3 version and the pc original.
I really don't think the speed is an issue. The sprinting speed in the original always got on my nerves for being inhumanely fast. This speed makes more sense to me but then that's just my opinion.
Nice review Rob! Speaking of Wolfenstein series, have you checked the new one lately? I'm disappointed that it's using COD gunplay and Halo's health regeneration, but I think I might buy it since I do enjoy the series.
So it seems Nerve botched the port job on this one. I don't understand why id keeps handing Nerve to do the ports, the Doom 360 port was hampered by no autorun feature, forcing me to hold down left trigger for about most of the game (which can bore on your finger real quick).
Thankfully I still got it on PC, I'll stick to that version.
I never cared for Wolf3D music...until today. Hearing the slowed down music on this port makes me hardly want to play it but i'll probably get it anyway.
I've been waiting to see if Dos based games would be available for download on newer consoles. How many other and what other MS-DOS games can be downloaded via Xbox Live Arcade? Why did they have to slow the game down. I was hoping to see some of these games on the Wii Virtual Console, but it now looks as if they'll be on the Xbox red ring of death arcade.
Nope, it's the exact same. Slower gameplay (which, BTW, makes it much easier, I'm blazing through Death Incarnate with little difficulty) and much slower music.

Okay i need help!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was thinking about getting an arcade game for the xbox360 but i am stuck on 3 choices.
They are:
Doom
Wolfenstein 3d
Duke Nukem 3d
They all seem great and are cheap but i need a second opinion on which one to buy.
HELP!!!!!
