It's not a great idea to standardize engines within F1. Doing this takes away from the appeal that F1 represents. Manufacturers/Teams competing against one another in engineering, driving, and team management is what racing should be about. IRL has a standard engine for all and I think the series suffers from that, amongst other issues. For F1 to be the pinnacle of motorsports, engineering individuality and team character must not be compromised due to an engine standard.

The FIA seems to consistently interfere with the teams in Formula I to the detriment of the sport. Lots of people said they thought is was boring when Ferrari and Micheal Schumacher where winning race after race, I thought it was amazing and that I was witnessing motor racing history in the making. The FIA Super 2000 WRC and IRC cars use spec transmissions. They're also proposing a new World Engine for 2011. It's a 1.6L turbocharged 4 cylinder with a 33 mm restrictor. It will be used in Touring cars and the WRC. The turbo pressure will be limited to 2.5 bar and they're will be an FIA control box to make sure the teams aren't cheating. The WTCC will move over to the world engine in 2011.

The easiest way to cut cost is to stop changing the rules every year. R and D is a fortune, v10 to v8 was a huge cost, KERS is costing huge money, the standard ecu is stupid cost cause teams could not start their cars, going to slicks and dumping aero will cost a lot, every rule change cost money because the teams have to find ways to remain competitive, keep the rules the same for like 5 years and the costs will go way down.

But a PROPER ANNUAL INDENPENDANT AUDIT will fix a lot. Oh and most of these engine companies are listed on stock exchanges anyway - so they are used to Disclosure. Trade secrets, patents are dealt with in the usual way.

Why not just slap a speed limiter in all cars so you can tune and setup the car as much as you like but not go over a certain speed, Then it will deffo be down to the teams great setup and the drivers skills. I dont really understand all this millarky with the engines but afta watching you guys I now know I should find out more and be very annoyed, What the heck are they doing to our beloved F1 racing, I thought it would get better with the stars of today not worse. Cheers mate. The problem with a 'speed limiter' is that it won't work. Any team with a decent computer engineer would write code to alter the engine revs and then have the code destroy itself so no trace would be left of it ever existing. - Max

No no NO!! It's wrong! Individual teams are the thing of F1. Not standard / shared equipment! And what engine would it be? Ferrari? McClaren? A GM product? *shudder* It can't be an engine any team is using now cos that would give one team a specific advantage. The shared engine idea is insane! This will turn into Indy car in no time. I can understand wanting to standardised some of the componants but the engine? thats a fairly major part of an F1 car to be standardising. Like you guys said thats one big step closer to A1GP, and a big step away from what makes F1 great.

f1 is dying slowly i feel sad because the best f1 years are past us and might never come back forget saving money and the enviroment bring back the v10's v12's turbo's make everyone go ballistic and choose what they want to put on their engine but i guess R.I.P F1 max mosley and bernie are such ignorant pensioners -_-
