  • Greatest fuckin instrumental ever though

  • To clarify on his clarification the song has been play completely through 6 times through but maybe more to date as said in(and i'm kinda embarassed to say this is how i learned this)guitar hero metallica in the metallifacts thing under orion

  • fucking hell not the first fucking time just shut up

  • @Gryzor95 You must be on drugs... They played it with Newsted so many times :)

  • fucking epic metall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Were they actually playing in Eb, or has this track been slowed down to avoid copyright detection etc?

Seems silly if they're playing the entire album, to not do it in the original tuning...

  • this aint the first time orion has been played live u idiot

  • @lcarlosist To clarify to everyone: Yes, yes it was. It had never been played live before IN ITS ENTIRETY. Yes, they played parts of it in medleys in the early 90's, and they performed like half the song some time prior to this, but this very performance was the first to feature the entire song. It's from Download 2006, I believe (some festival anyway), and I think they played the entire Master of Puppets album from beginning to end. About damn time if you ask me :p

  • @starionpatrol Thanks for the clarification. I saw Metallica years ago where they did medleys of longer songs (like combining several tracks from Justice). It was OK, but I preferred to hear the whole songs. Luckily, on the next two shows I saw, they didn't do that.

  • ohhhhhhhhhhh full HD

  • I can't tell which pixel is the guitar or James, is it the one that is blurred red or the static fuzzed one?

  • Such a great Metallica song that should get played at everyshow. Along with "Dyers Eve" - Two of my metallica favorites!

  • This is not the first live recording!

  • its on the live shit binge and purge album from 1993 cunt. Your on crack mother fucker. It was proabbly live well before that too. Get you shit together fuck wit.

  • Robert could be an espada if his shirt's colors were reversed...

  • I have seen Orion (the whole song) played live on stage long before 2006. I know they started playing pieces of it in 1992 in conjunction with a Newstead bass solo, but I don't think 2006 was the first time they played the whole thing live on stage.

  • First played in 1985. Really.

  • Comment removed

  • only Metallica can get an invisible dislike bar with 240p :D

  • Is that from Guitar hero Metallica?

  • @undertow827 he played it great!!!

  • trujillo and newsted are both good bassists but cliff was in a class by himself

  • Orion live San Diego 1992 was there first, look it up

  • @adzyb69 It's the first time they played the whole song live on stage dude

  • It sounds good to me.

  • if this was Guitar Hero they would so be getting boo'ed off right now

  • Apparently it's been so long they've forgotten how to play it.

  • props to rob for playing this, though no one could out orion cliff, rob does a pretty damn good job and deserved this opportunity

  • At least the audios alright.

  • pretty sure I just watched Orion in San Diego from 92, kirkhammetrocks4777 is the uploader

  • Ahaha Idiots ORION was playing live first tim w/ Cliff Burton in 86' Damn,,

  • ahh my arch nemisis 240p... we meet again.....

  • pure thin lizzy man

  • I saw Metallica in 1993 and they played Orion.

  • @Johnnygash Not the compete version. Jason Newstead was never able to play the complete version. There were parts of Orion that were simply beyond the capacity of Jason to perform.

  • @jadedmastermind I doubt that, Jason was a very competent bassist. I've always heard they refused to play the whole thing live out of respect for Cliff.

  • @jadedmastermind Maybe, I was pretty wasted. Hard to remember!

  • If only they had played it '89 !

  • it was probably the first time with monkey boy on bass the guy is hard to look at when he plays but has talent.... no cliff but damn good

  • Comment removed

  • this wasn't first time ever

the first live they played was at live shit in 1992

  • @SmiLe4Me95 But it was not full one

  • Are you a tard 2005, look to your right Metallica Orion 1992, this vidio is live.

  • toaster or not! it definately rocks... lol at ilian150! nice... respect to all

  • but they used to play it back in 92 .. i mean part of it but still

  • They should never play this song live. This is just one of those songs that are best left to vinyl.

  • 6:50 time to suck some dick!

  • bass sound horrible

  • @MultiThrashmetal The Bass sound was great...

  • @MultiThrashmetal its the uploader. there are some HD versions out there. if you close your eyes, you can see cliff thrashing away.

  • damn dude... what did you upload this with? a toaster?

  • @ilidan150 He uploaded it with youtube. Duhh

  • @ilidan150 toaster phone

  • what song is kirk playing? I can understand like a couple missed notes here and there,...i mean they probably didn't have much time to practice it, and it looks like rob probably put the most time into learning it, but holy hell. It's like he's playing an entirely different song. Lars too,...where's the fucking beat man!? enough with the snare high hat as a fill, just play the normal beat. Unbelievable...so sad to see it come to this.

  • Why dont they focus the video on Robert during the solos???? :(

  • @johnn19084ever13 James sid thank you Rob Trujillo and God bless Cliff Burton

  • @8593jose James said Mr. Robert Trujillo and God bless Cliff Burton.

  • Wow. This version is utter crap. It's not the same without Cliff, and it never will be...

  • hey can someone tell me what james said about rob and cliff?

  • why oh why can't Kirk get his damn solo's right...argh

  • I'm pretty sure that Cliff Burton is playing this song in hell banging his head among with thousands of crazy demons !!!! Metallica for life and after life !!!!!!!!

  • This isn't the first time they played Orion live. They did it for years with Newsted. It was their tribute song to Cliff.

  • @High5Brah

    Vocals-John Michael "OZZY" Osbourne

    Drums-Lars Ulrich

    Bass-Cliff Burton

    Rhythm Guitar-Tony Iommi

    Lead Guitar-Randy Rhoads

  • @MrSleep1980

Can not have a deam band without James Hetfield. he is...a band in himself.

  • @juv3ntin are you saying james is better than cliff?

  • @MrSleep1980 No i said you should include James In any dream band. He is a riff machine and world renowned for being the tightest metal guitarist around for the last 30 years.

  • @juv3ntin sorry, rather have randy rhoads and tony iommi

  • @MrSleep1980 that shows me how much you know about music in general, but heck it s your band, don t go crying when you ll see we make millions with James, and you don t, ha :P

  • @juv3ntin ha, im pretty sure i'd make more money if I brought CLIFF BURTON AND RANDY RHOADS back from the dead, dont u think

  • the first performance was in 86 dude

  • @Angelos476 Not the hole song though...

  • No its not the first time lve

  • Go out and get "to live is to die" cliff's autobiograghy. It is an awsome read, lots of early metallica history for the youngins.

  • what is this taped with a calculator???

  • what is this taped with a calculator???

  • Im sorry but this wasn't their first performance with "Orion", the first one was San Fransisco, 2005, warming up for the Rollong Stones, and I got this information of the Metallica website, so a change needs to be made in the title.

  • @Razmuz12

you are that typical faggy metallica fan are you?

  • @CptChaos88 y...

  • @Razmuz12 burn!

  • @Razmuz12 they only played the first half during the rolling stone gig. this is the first time they play it in its entirety

  • @Fingolfin93 no they played the whole thing... If they didn't they wouldn't write it up on the website, and who are you say that, were you there, if you wasn't I dont believe, there were no video of it...

  • @Razmuz12

right. by far not the first time they played it live. even 93 they have already done that.

  • @Sportbund no, your're wrong! im affraid, they only played a little bit of the song for the "instrumental medley" which consists of a small part og "Call Of Ktulu", "To Live Is To Die" and "Orion". and they only played it in the 92-93s

  • @Razmuz12

as a matter of fact, they've played it live before. and it makes no difference wether they played it 2 minutes, or the complete song.

    but...who cares anyway...its a great song! ;)

  • @Razmuz12 or they could leave the title the way it is and you could just listen to the song?

  • @Razmuz12 how about KISS MY ASS! he can put that in the title!!

  • @Razmuz12 I thought they only played the first half of it back then..

  • @starionpatrol It is registered as a played song on their website

  • @Razmuz12 lol OCD much?

  • either way it was the first time playing it live since Cliff's death not the first time overall...their first time playing it on tour which they did on their sick of the studio short tour

  • @poopedcheetah2 No, they never played it while Cliff was alive

  • God Bless CLIFF BURTON

  • @Razmuz12 this is the first time they played the full thing though, they only played a small part then and any other time, i read in an interview that they waited to play the full song until the 25th anniversary of Master of Puppets

  • @conbon85 then would you give out the link...

  • how can you not love Cliff for his music ?! its freaking awesome!!!

  • Dear thrash metal fans... I invite you to see and comment my cover of this legacy. Greetings from Poland!

  • Fark lighters, we brought HIGHWAY FLARES!

  • But... if this is theyr song, they are the band... and they say that they have play it full before... they must know it better than us, I think... but anyway, does it really matters?

  • The reason they couldn't play this with Newsted was because he couldn't play fast enough on the bass at some parts.

  • @NeverBeBored08 LOL!!! Are you serious???? Jason can easily play this song :) But i guess they got some other point to not play it.....

  • @loquendo495

no, it was in germany... rock am ring festival 2006

  • this is a metallica video right??

so what's with the dimebag and mustaine comments and stuff???

  • 1:26-1:30 la bandera mas bonita del mundo! presente en la premier de ORION.

    GOD BLESS CLIFF BURTON

  • Everyone has their opinion on Cliff vs Jason vs Rob. I will always go with the pluckers vs the pickers on bass. There is more soul going into and out of the instrument with this technique. Rob plays a lot like Cliff did, and in my opinion is a better fit for Metallica than Jason ever was, nothing against Jason, just too bad it took so long to find Robert. Jason never really fit in, and as he basically stated, way back in an early 90's box set, was just in it for the bucks anyway.

  • I love Rob in Metallica. he plays alot like Cliff but he needs to stop with the braids and standing like he's got a load of shit in his pants! lol

  • Comment removed

  • @sw33tasscandi

    but rob is a monkey...

  • @ThulensOrd We are ALL monkeys ;D

  • @ThulensOrd Shut the hell up man, you don't realise Rob has given power to this band.. RESPECT

  • I was at the show at Redrocks in Colorado opening for Ozzy they played this live...I was there I remember it very clearly cause I loved every minute of it, I was in the third row, and considering these guys can't remember what they had for lunch most of the time I'm not exactly relying on what they "remember" from a show 25 years ago they may have cut a minute or two off of it but close enough.

  • @uUxXxUu123 no leiste la descripcion... con Jason nunca, NUNCA la tocaron entera. Solo partes de ella. Con Cliff tampoco.

  • Too bad kirks guitar kept fucking up...

  • No my friend heavens true band would have dio and layne stayley on vocal

dave mustain on guitar with dimebag

and cliff burton and les claypool on bass

while DAVE LOMBARDO KICKS THE FUCK OUTTA THE DRUMS!

  • bs maybe 1st time played with the new bassist , get your facts right b4 you title a video

  • can't believe they've never played this live b4 this

  • @metallicafansince88 they played this live a long time ago what he said was first time they played live IN 2006

  • metallicaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • the very first verse was a little bit happy? :P

  • its played live on cliff em' all dumbfuck.

  • this aint the first time this was played live

  • anybody who "dislikes" this song can s@#k it!

  • god job rob...

  • anybody who "dislikes" this song can s@#k it!

  • I don't intend this to offend what it will obviously imply. But why does someone dying make them the best. Cliff yes he's the best bassist I've ever seen. But like cobain cash Elvis. Jackson. Like people hated him people loved him. But when he died he's the pop superstar not the kid rapist. I just don't get it. Are we looking for recognition of the dead jus by saying they were good. I mean example. Hendrix is known to be the best at guitar. Live or dead. It seems to me that someone dead is wort

  • @Rottenpie119 i c wat ur saying but cliff was 1 of the only bassists 2 write songs like this< anthrax doesnt have this nor does megadeth or slayer< they have bass lins but not 2 this extent! andd hendrix is god!!!!!!!!

  • sounds great but I wish for a better quality video.

  • All respect Gryz, I was at a Tallica concert back in the 90s, when they were still promoting the Black album tour with GnR, This is the song they opened with. In its entirity. This might be the first time it was ever taped live in its entirety but its not the first time its been played live in its entirety.

  • rob must have really long arms to play with his bass so low

  • where is the fuckin' epic button???!!!

  • metallica fn rulz ; to allyou shitheads who think different , they have been around longer than youve been ,fuck off you bitches.and another thing they wrote all of the sht so why are you bitchin,id kill a mtherfkr like you and like it

  • metallica fn rulz ; to allyou shitheads who think different , they have been around longer than youve been ,fuck off you bitches

  • R.I.P cliff best bassist ever

  • and btw, James are so insanely right at the end. God Bless Clifford.

  • oh dude, I think your' right in fact. the perfomance in 1992 in san diego was not the Full song. they only played 2,5 minutes of the start of the song. in a medley. when I red your description and saw that you wrote "FULL VERSON". then i can't say i haven'y heard about it any other place. so maybe this is first full verson mate :DDD

  • @dirtyvocals u do realize ur just spamming....

  • Perfect is the only word that comes to mind.

  • sorry mate. they played this song live in San Diego in 1992. this is not first time ever. they did it 14 years earlyer dude

  • @Noobcake666 link? =D i wanna see

  • @Noobcake666 Yet YOU FAIL BIG TIME! Read the discription dumbass, just as the beginning of the video says. It wasn't played entirely with either Cliff or Jason... This was their premiere for the first time fully peforming this song. R.I.P. Cliff and props to Rob, what a great and inspiring bass player, did a great job.

  • This instrumental is as close to perfect as it gets.

  • The chord progressions are pleasing to my ears.

  • Heaven's band:

    Singer - Dio

    Guitar - Chuck shuldiner

    Guitar - Darrel dimebagg

    Bass - Cliff

    Drums - gar samuelson

  • @SlaytanicMetalFace good list, but I would either swap out Randy Rhoads for somebody or add him in there so he and Dime could do double lead :D

  • This is the coolest live show ever, the guy with the flare is awesome, hats off to you!

  • Heaven's band:

    Singer - James Hetfield

    Guitar - Kirk Hammet

Guitar - James Hetfield (ofc. the singer has to play guitar to be epic!)

Bass - Rob./Jason./Cliff. (unfortunately he died)

    Drums - Lars Ulrich

  • @arendtrasmuss Guitar - Dave Mustaine

  • @arendtrasmuss I think a bass playing lead singer can also be epic, they are rarer for a start.

  • @timtheveg Slayer's got one :D

  • @timtheveg Phil Lynot of Thin Lizzy (RIP), Geddy Lee of Rush, Les Claypool of Primus, Sting of The Police, Paul McCartney Wings, Lemmy of Motorhead, Pete Stele of Type O Negative (RIP), Tom Arya of Slayer, Doug Pinnick of Kings X, Steve Harris of Diamond Head, Hansi Kirsch of Blind Guardian, ICS Vortex of Dimmu Borgir, There are tons of others I can list. they are not that rare. All apologies to those whose names I misspelled.

  • @JerkFaceVocals Hey man... Steve Harris from Iron Maiden...Colin Kimberley, Pete Wilcox, David Williamson, Pete Vuckovic were bassist from diamond head. Eddie "Chaos" Moohan is the bassist from diamond head currently.

  • @jrmustaine6 I feel so ashamed that I got that mixed up! as much as I love those bands you'd think I had a fucking clue as to what I was saying. oh well, it happens to the best of us. still can't believe I put steve harris in Diamond Head!

  • @timtheveg I'm the bassist and vocals in the band I'm starting up with a couple buddz

  • @arendtrasmuss WRONG!

    singer- ozzy

    guitar- dimebag

guitar 2- dave, cause james is a pussy

bass- dont list a either or, cause cliff is obviously better than both of them.

     drums- chris adler

an all metallica lineup doesnt do justice. there are many many more people that need to be on heavens band.

  • @ArizonaNmusic Yeah, I think the same! But if do a heaven's band, well, I dont know what to say. All I could say is that I wish other bands would perform other, then theirs hits and it would be preety awesome: Metallica performing Megadeth, Megadeth performing Metallica and etc. Awesome, would I say.

  • @arendtrasmuss Heaven's band: Metallica (:

  • @arendtrasmuss bands good. but, the band is METALLICA. Nothing against Tallica, but It's Heaven's band. You can have ANYONE YOU DAMN WElL WANT. That being said, why make heaven's band something that you can hear anytime anywhere?

    Here's a real heaven's band:

Singer - Dave Mustaine or Till Lindemann

    Rhythm Guitar - Dimebag

    Lead Guitar - Mustaine

    Bass - Paul Gray

    Drums - Joey Jordison

  • @ZERO9098767 DIMEBAG on rythm WTF

dimebag @ lead nd mustaine in a dumpster

  • @Jordy666slayer dimebag style doesn't fit with metallica's music he was awsome at pantera

  • @ZERO9098767 slipknot sucks...

  • @ZERO9098767 Dave mustaine - Sounds like a guy that´s taking a shit.

Till Lindemann - Love him <3

Dimebag - Nah, better to have him as solo guitarist

Mustaine - It´s okay, just as he shuts up he can play the guitar

Paul grey - LOL overrated as hell

Joey Jordison - Just speed, no soul or technique.

Worst all-star band ive ever seen

  • @Blackhand300 well, at least we agree on some ppl, lol. I was just trying to say that a band you can listen to anyday of the week wouldnt be a good dream band. But, i do have to say that Jordison does have tech. Just listen to the drum solo on 9.0 Live.

Anyways, i already knew it would be a bad band, im nvr good at making up dream teams or anything like that.

  • @ZERO9098767 I really have to check that one up! Thanks for the tip mate.

But you havent heard of slayer have you? Lombardo is hero! :D

  • @Blackhand300 yeah, i listen to Slayer, theyre GOOD, but IMO, they're over-rated. But, i i do own 3 of their cds (Reign In Blood, South of Heaven, and Decade of Destruction (i think thats the name of their live CD.) And, i do have some of their other music downloaded. Disciple has to be one their best songs. Anyways, in my opinion, their are much better drummers, no offense.

  • @ZERO9098767 Okay, they are maybe a bit overrated as band, but Dave is sick with the pedals in songs like Raining blood, Angel of death etc. But who is the best drummer in your opinion then? :D

  • @Blackhand300 Yeah, he is fuckin awesome on Raining Blood and some other songs. And my favorite drummer? damn... Dont really know. Truth be told, i dont really pay that much attention to the drums as much as i pay attention to vocals and guitars and bass. But the first drummer's name that comes to my mind is Joey Jordison.

  • @ZERO9098767 Well, i can agree that he is really good. Stay metal brother! :D

  • @Blackhand300 Hell yeah, Metal for life!

  • @arendtrasmuss

    Bass : Don ' t forget their first bassist from ` 82 - Ron McGovney .

  • @arendtrasmus no.
