To clarify on his clarification the song has been play completely through 6 times through but maybe more to date as said in(and i'm kinda embarassed to say this is how i learned this)guitar hero metallica in the metallifacts thing under orion
@dfrossness -- its not really silly.. im sure met wudve played it in the original tuning only if james COULD SING in the original tuning! its his voice that does metallica to play in Eb tuning, not their personal wish :| ..
@lcarlosist To clarify to everyone: Yes, yes it was. It had never been played live before IN ITS ENTIRETY. Yes, they played parts of it in medleys in the early 90's, and they performed like half the song some time prior to this, but this very performance was the first to feature the entire song. It's from Download 2006, I believe (some festival anyway), and I think they played the entire Master of Puppets album from beginning to end. About damn time if you ask me :p
@starionpatrol Thanks for the clarification. I saw Metallica years ago where they did medleys of longer songs (like combining several tracks from Justice). It was OK, but I preferred to hear the whole songs. Luckily, on the next two shows I saw, they didn't do that.
its on the live shit binge and purge album from 1993 cunt. Your on crack mother fucker. It was proabbly live well before that too. Get you shit together fuck wit.
I have seen Orion (the whole song) played live on stage long before 2006. I know they started playing pieces of it in 1992 in conjunction with a Newstead bass solo, but I don't think 2006 was the first time they played the whole thing live on stage.
@Johnnygash Not the compete version. Jason Newstead was never able to play the complete version. There were parts of Orion that were simply beyond the capacity of Jason to perform.
@jadedmastermind I doubt that, Jason was a very competent bassist. I've always heard they refused to play the whole thing live out of respect for Cliff.
what song is kirk playing? I can understand like a couple missed notes here and there,...i mean they probably didn't have much time to practice it, and it looks like rob probably put the most time into learning it, but holy hell. It's like he's playing an entirely different song. Lars too,...where's the fucking beat man!? enough with the snare high hat as a fill, just play the normal beat. Unbelievable...so sad to see it come to this.
I'm pretty sure that Cliff Burton is playing this song in hell banging his head among with thousands of crazy demons !!!! Metallica for life and after life !!!!!!!!
@MrSleep1980 No i said you should include James In any dream band. He is a riff machine and world renowned for being the tightest metal guitarist around for the last 30 years.
@MrSleep1980 that shows me how much you know about music in general, but heck it s your band, don t go crying when you ll see we make millions with James, and you don t, ha :P
Im sorry but this wasn't their first performance with "Orion", the first one was San Fransisco, 2005, warming up for the Rollong Stones, and I got this information of the Metallica website, so a change needs to be made in the title.
@Fingolfin93 no they played the whole thing... If they didn't they wouldn't write it up on the website, and who are you say that, were you there, if you wasn't I dont believe, there were no video of it...
@Sportbund no, your're wrong! im affraid, they only played a little bit of the song for the "instrumental medley" which consists of a small part og "Call Of Ktulu", "To Live Is To Die" and "Orion". and they only played it in the 92-93s
either way it was the first time playing it live since Cliff's death not the first time overall...their first time playing it on tour which they did on their sick of the studio short tour
@Razmuz12 this is the first time they played the full thing though, they only played a small part then and any other time, i read in an interview that they waited to play the full song until the 25th anniversary of Master of Puppets
But... if this is theyr song, they are the band... and they say that they have play it full before... they must know it better than us, I think... but anyway, does it really matters?
Everyone has their opinion on Cliff vs Jason vs Rob. I will always go with the pluckers vs the pickers on bass. There is more soul going into and out of the instrument with this technique. oh dude, I think your' right in fact. the perfomance in 1992 in san diego was not the Full song. they only played 2,5 minutes of the start of the song. in a medley. when I red your description and saw that you wrote "FULL VERSON". then i can't say i haven'y heard about it any other place. so maybe this is first full verson mate :DDD
@Noobcake666 Yet YOU FAIL BIG TIME! Read the discription dumbass, just as the beginning of the video says. It wasn't played entirely with either Cliff or Jason... This was their premiere for the first time fully peforming this song. R.I.P. Cliff and props to Rob, what a great and inspiring bass player, did a great job.
@timtheveg Phil Lynot of Thin Lizzy (RIP), Geddy Lee of Rush, Les Claypool of Primus, Sting of The Police, Paul McCartney Wings, Lemmy of Motorhead, Pete Stele of Type O Negative (RIP), Tom Arya of Slayer, Doug Pinnick of Kings X, Steve Harris of Diamond Head, Hansi Kirsch of Blind Guardian, ICS Vortex of Dimmu Borgir, There are tons of others I can list. they are not that rare. All apologies to those whose names I misspelled.
@JerkFaceVocals Hey man... Steve Harris from Iron Maiden...Colin Kimberley, Pete Wilcox, David Williamson, Pete Vuckovic were bassist from diamond head. Eddie "Chaos" Moohan is the bassist from diamond head currently.
@jrmustaine6 I feel so ashamed that I got that mixed up! as much as I love those bands you'd think I had a fucking clue as to what I was saying. oh well, it happens to the best of us. still can't believe I put steve harris in Diamond Head!
@ArizonaNmusic Yeah, I think the same! But if do a heaven's band, well, I dont know what to say. All I could say is that I wish other bands would perform other, then theirs hits and it would be preety awesome: Metallica performing Megadeth, Megadeth performing Metallica and etc. Awesome, would I say.
@arendtrasmuss bands good. but, the band is METALLICA. Nothing against Tallica, but It's Heaven's band. You can have ANYONE YOU DAMN WElL WANT. That being said, why make heaven's band something that you can hear anytime anywhere?
@Blackhand300 well, at least we agree on some ppl, lol. I was just trying to say that a band you can listen to anyday of the week wouldnt be a good dream band. But, i do have to say that Jordison does have tech. Just listen to the drum solo on 9.0 Live.
Anyways, i already knew it would be a bad band, im nvr good at making up dream teams or anything like that.
@Blackhand300 yeah, i listen to Slayer, theyre GOOD, but IMO, they're over-rated. But, i i do own 3 of their cds (Reign In Blood, South of Heaven, and Decade of Destruction (i think thats the name of their live CD.) And, i do have some of their other music downloaded. Disciple has to be one their best songs. Anyways, in my opinion, their are much better drummers, no offense.
@ZERO9098767 Okay, they are maybe a bit overrated as band, but Dave is sick with the pedals in songs like Raining blood, Angel of death etc. But who is the best drummer in your opinion then? :D
@Blackhand300 Yeah, he is fuckin awesome on Raining Blood and some other songs. And my favorite drummer? damn... Dont really know. Truth be told, i dont really pay that much attention to the drums as much as i pay attention to vocals and guitars and bass. But the first drummer's name that comes to my mind is Joey Jordison.

oh dude, I think your' right in fact. the perfomance in 1992 in san diego was not the Full song. they only played 2,5 minutes of the start of the song. in a medley. when I red your description and saw that you wrote "FULL VERSON". then i can't say i haven'y heard about it any other place. so maybe this is first full verson mate :DDD

@Noobcake666 link? =D i wanna see
darkgothic8 11 months ago
@Noobcake666 Yet YOU FAIL BIG TIME! Read the discription dumbass, just as the beginning of the video says. It wasn't played entirely with either Cliff or Jason... This was their premiere for the first time fully peforming this song. R.I.P. Cliff and props to Rob, what a great and inspiring bass player, did a great job.

nada q ver con el orion de los 80s
smilemegadeth 11 months ago

This instrumental is as close to perfect as it gets.

@SlaytanicMetalFace good list, but I would either swap out Randy Rhoads for somebody or add him in there so he and Dime could do double lead :D

@arendtrasmuss I think a bass playing lead singer can also be epic, they are rarer for a start.

@jrmustaine6 I feel so ashamed that I got that mixed up! as much as I love those bands you'd think I had a fucking clue as to what I was saying. oh well, it happens to the best of us. still can't believe I put steve harris in Diamond Head!

@timtheveg I'm the bassist and vocals in the band I'm starting up with a couple buddz
wowaddict564 10 months ago
@arendtrasmuss WRONG!
singer- ozzy
guitar- dimebag
guitar 2- dave, cause james is a pussy
bass- dont list a either or, cause cliff is obviously better than both of them.
drums- chris adler
an all metallica lineup doesnt do justice. there are many many more people that need to be on heavens band.
ArizonaNmusic 10 months ago
@ArizonaNmusic Yeah, I think the same! But if do a heaven's band, well, I dont know what to say. All I could say is that I wish other bands would perform other, then theirs hits and it would be preety awesome: Metallica performing Megadeth, Megadeth performing Metallica and etc. Awesome, would I say.
PlastBlast 10 months ago
@arendtrasmuss Heaven's band: Metallica (:
TheFinalDude 9 months ago
@arendtrasmuss bands good. but, the band is METALLICA. Nothing against Tallica, but It's Heaven's band. You can have ANYONE YOU DAMN WElL WANT. That being said, why make heaven's band something that you can hear anytime anywhere?
Here's a real heaven's band:
Singer - Dave Mustaine or Till Lindemann
Rhythm Guitar - Dimebag
Lead Guitar - Mustaine
Bass - Paul Gray
Drums - Joey Jordison

@ZERO9098767 Dave mustaine - Sounds like a guy that´s taking a shit.
Till Lindemann - Love him <3
Dimebag - Nah, better to have him as solo guitarist
Mustaine - It´s okay, just as he shuts up he can play the guitar
Paul grey - LOL overrated as hell
Joey Jordison - Just speed, no soul or technique.
Worst all-star band ive ever seen
Blackhand300 8 months ago
@Blackhand300 well, at least we agree on some ppl, lol. I was just trying to say that a band you can listen to anyday of the week wouldnt be a good dream band. But, i do have to say that Jordison does have tech. Just listen to the drum solo on 9.0 Live.
Anyways, i already knew it would be a bad band, im nvr good at making up dream teams or anything like that.
ZERO9098767 8 months ago
@ZERO9098767 I really have to check that one up! Thanks for the tip mate.
But you havent heard of slayer have you? Lombardo is hero! :D
Blackhand300 8 months ago
@Blackhand300 yeah, i listen to Slayer, theyre GOOD, but IMO, they're over-rated. But, i i do own 3 of their cds (Reign In Blood, South of Heaven, and Decade of Destruction (i think thats the name of their live CD.) And, i do have some of their other music downloaded. Disciple has to be one their best songs. Anyways, in my opinion, their are much better drummers, no offense.
ZERO9098767 8 months ago
@ZERO9098767 Okay, they are maybe a bit overrated as band, but Dave is sick with the pedals in songs like Raining blood, Angel of death etc. But who is the best drummer in your opinion then? :D
Blackhand300 8 months ago
@Blackhand300 Yeah, he is fuckin awesome on Raining Blood and some other songs. And my favorite drummer? damn... Dont really know. Truth be told, i dont really pay that much attention to the drums as much as i pay attention to vocals and guitars and bass. But the first drummer's name that comes to my mind is Joey Jordison.
ZERO9098767 8 months ago
@ZERO9098767 Well, i can agree that he is really good. Stay metal brother! :D
