The hing is that this car can go against Evo's and STI's as where the Cobalt SS and SRT-4 can't.

I always wondered why the big three didn't develop a racing series that focused on their own compact cars. The Cobalt SS, SRT-4 and Focus RS would make for a great "domestic compact" series and would probably go along way to developing small car tech for the big three. I am a hard core domestic fan, but the big three were always too focused on NASCAR in my opinion. I loved the Cobaltt SS as I am a GM guy, but this new Focus is a serious peice of work. I would take one any day.
