@TheMinstrel4life He did sacrifice the melody even in the intro which is not the best thing to do but when a song is established and the vocalist are singing, they carry the melody mostly right? I still like hearing him play in this video...I know it aint up to standards from a tight band standpoint... you can tell they probably don't play together regularly. I agree with goofyorganist, he over played the song, BUT you must admit that it was great execution on the hammond B3. the chords were FULL N TIGHT. Also did anyone notice that his direction to the bass player was clear and precise. When the bass player caught on the organist stopped playing the bass pedals on the organ. Some organist's continue to play the pedals making the sound merky and dense. Also the bass player was hot as well. Good groove and great riffs. Great Improvosation.

As long as the musical director or choir director is comfortable with the style of the organist it is fine. In my opinion he was good. He was a bit outlandish but there's nothing wrong with that at times. As far as the drummer, he could have done more but he was good too; you cant complain with a good pocket.
well im was there and i have seen him around town and he is a wonderful musician and he takes wat he does very seriously. and u can tell that he has a relationship wit god. and as long as he keep him first he will always be successful

Buddy Strong advised me to have discipline at all times during play, even when alone. Perhaps this is the reason he has accompanied a plethora of outstanding artists and helped groom this producer. DISCIPLINE. DISCIPLINE. DISCIPLINE. It's a terrible thing when a musician takes away from the original composition, especially when it does not add to or compliment the structure of the song. I would put that in the same category as playing in a different key in which a soloist isn't singing.
The organist is very much talented but we as musicians must learn how to accompany the praise and worship leaders not take it as a time to shine. It is about ushering in the presence of God not soloing through the whole song.

Very good technique, i think he likes attention but he will grow out of it. Hes ok...for now, we all had this before...lol
