Sir Robert John Le Mesurier McClure (28 January 1807 - 17
October 1873)
He actually was the first to discover the passage and published a book titled 'The Discovery of the North west Passage' in 1854 and was awarded 10,000 pounds from UK Government. McClure strait is named after him.
@JohnRMacC of course he did not discover the possibility of a northwestpassage. he was not even born when the franklin expedition took place. mcclure wrote of a possible passage, who no one knew existed. it was not before amundsen found a way through the ice the theory of a passage was confirmed. if no one can travel through it, its not really a passage is it?
