no it doesn't XD the nissan was developed by nissan totally it won't be to 2011 that nissan will replace the titan with a ram pick up with a nissan badge in exchange for the versa and some other small cars for dodge its a win win situation and ford and toyota have no dealings with each other and don't share chassis i know my car stuff and no chassis components interchange between ford and toyota or any ford and toyota. other news i luv that jeep thing too bad its not commin here.
but I remember my dad and I ran into a toyota (or was it nissan?) engine in a ford minivan. the engine had no markings on the head covers, it was until we read the engine block number and crosschecked that we realized it was not a ford engine.
yep actually it was the mercury villager it was a joint venture it used a nissan power train and somethings from ford (i don't remember cause i don't like them XD)well thats the only van in the u.s. i know there are other cocktails in other countries like the nissan patrol is also the ford maverick im really suprised nissan is mixin with dodge instead of ford now. toyota mixes with g.m. sometimes example is the pontiac matrix and the chevy prism they are both toyotas undercover
Per specific drivetrain with range indicated and in order of operation/usage.
NO mixing of drivetrain efficiencies unless operation (getting down the road...) specifically depends on dynamically switching back AND forth between the different drivetrains and then this method of locomotion should be clearly stated...)
If my car has TWO engines, I want TWO mileages!!!
(and TWO ranges!!!)
With that said, electric blows, go Hydrogen fuel cells!!!
EPA mileage... hmm... How about we completely ignore the battery life and just see how far it goes in the city and highway, like the old style. Then toss a second number in there that says the possible increase of mileage using the hybrid drivetrain, regardless of what it is. don't tell me they can't do that, you unhook a friggin' wire!
Also, with the volt and plugging it in. That will probably run the power bill up. It won't be a gas crunch, it'll be a power crunch for those things! choices...
they shouldnt change the epa ratings the same. Then open a website for people to post there average gass mileage and put in how they drive and how far they drive. cause it is imposible to test mpg. Jeremy Clarkson drove and audi a8 800 miles on one take of fuel despite audi telling him it woulnd do it.
Shame about the Jeep not being good enough for California. I'd imagine a turbodiesel 4-cyl would yield superb mileage. You'd think that's what those greens on the west coast would want.
Long Distance: The distance the vehicle can travel on a full tank of petrol and a full battery charge, that number divided by the the size of the gas tank.
So let's say it can travel 600 miles on a full charge plus a full tank of fuel while using a 15 gallon fuel tank. Its average would be 40mpg.
I believe EPA standards only apply to a vehicle that is using its internal combustion engine to operate the vehicle. Hybrids such as the Prius use both engines side by side, so the EPA standard of city/highway still applies. Skewing the standard because the vehicle is a battery assisted hybrid will only complicate things for the manufacture and more importantly the consumer.
One way to standardize MPG is a test track which has both simulated city and highway driving courses. Then each vehicle would generate real world numbers which would allow for accurate comparo's...
i think the mg should be given in three different manners. full throttle. Some daily driving real life. some highway driving. real test of how long the batteries last for hybrid cars.
I think EPA should make an aggregate base score that incorporates a bunch of different scores like 45mph efficiency on gas and 45mph efficiency on electric and how long the car car can do each. If a vehicle doesn't have an electric power plant, then it gets a 0 for that score(s), but hopefully the engine efficiency would make up for it. So if the entire power plant is really efficient but it can only go about 50 miles before it dies, then it gets a penalty for distance regardless of efficiency
QOD: EPA should give me a new car every couple weeks, I'll drive it around like I normally do (going about 90 down the highways), then I'll give it back to them (assuming I don't wreck the car, in which case they should pay me for my troubles) and they can figure out what the MPG is.
The battery pack is rated in watt/hours, the electric motor should be rated in watts @ highway/city speeds. The internal combustion motor should be rated in gallons/hour @ highway/city speeds. Forget about distance and talk about speed and time.
the way i compare mileage between cars is exactly how many miles i can get to a tank, and how much a tank of gas costs. factor that to cost per mile, then your average commute.
The millage for the EPA is not accurate b/c part of the testing is done while the chevy volt is in full electric car mode. my opinion the city MPG number should be accompanied by another number... Highway MPG, City MPG, and electric distance... this way the test for city can be done with no charge and the car acting only as a hybrid. Chevy can still show off it's distance as an electric and the hybrid MPG can be calculated accurately.
I believe the EPA should test each vehicle using a set final distance, which would consist of at least three different smaller tests, each driving a minimum of 40 miles. During each test, a different "real world" driving situation and style will be reenacted (such as traveling at constant speed, stop and go traffic, and quick acceleration to highway speed, ect.) The result would be three MPG numbers that when averaged, would compensate for hybrids as well as individual driving style.
They were wrong about the Titan/Dodge partnership, they got it backwards. Nissan is actually borrowing the 2009 Dodge Ram platform for the 2010 Titan platform. In turn Dodge/Chrysler will be borrowing out to Nissan for a small car.
Do the current way but avg. them together, more on the lower side of the estimate. so take my car. 18 city 25 highway (i think). people dont go easy on the gas pedal unless they are trying to. i get around 19.5 MPG, on a college campus and the surrounding area.
i saw an Astra on the highway once and i was like whoa that that one Opel Astra, with a Saturn badge... i didn't know they existed as (Saturn Astra) until i saw one on the road lol. about the question of the day. i have no f-ing idea lol. epa has a big pile o sh*t on thier hands. too many different types of drivetrains to be able to make one system that properly estimates gas milage on all
I think the EPA rating should be the same for every type of vehicle. There's no point of a rating unless its standardized across the board. Now, although the hybrids have alternate ratings depending on the amount of mileage the electric motor can travel, I think the EPA rating should be for the worse case scenario, i.e., using the Diesel motor's efficiency as the rating. Perhaps a subscript of the battery operated efficiency to show the potential MPG would help inform the buyer of their car.
thats the " official " story.......and i dont buy it. Gm can do better. But on a side note , in a few years i would love to buy a Tesla brand vehicle when the price of goes down ( which they said it will ) and production can be increased. I would love to say goodbye to gasoline forever....well , for my daily driver. Would still have the weekend to play with the " toys "
My thought is that cars like the Volt will need to have both an all electric range and a gas powered mileage figure using the current system. IMO, it's up to the marketeers and sales people to make sure the customer knows how each number applies.
they could do it by rpms, say what a car gets at certain revs or styles of shifting, dont just give one number, but a realistic guide for people who will drive like grandma in their e63amg (who i was stuck behind today) and the road rallying asshole in the prius who i was passed by earlier.
saturn advertises the astra like a bitch, you kidding? and now they aren't bringing it over? that's funny.
the real problem is that the old vectra is our new saturn. that is an outrage, fuck you gm.
jesus jeep, you bring back your roots, could have called it a willy's j8, its the most american car on the market, and we don't get it? goodbye chrysler.
god, another crossover. what about the 2011 srx? are they eleminating that then?
is it just me or is the epa out to just fuck everything up?
I say make a set distance on a special track, with say, 200 miles that they have to drive. How ever many gallons they use, whether or not the car is electric or not. obviously you can't have a sticker on the car that says "well if you don't travel more than 40 miles, you get 100 MPG!" It needs to be something that can be accurate everywhere you drive it.
EPA fix: Why don't we just get rid of the EPA? We don't need the government to tell us what gas milage a car gets. It's just wasting taxpayer money. Let people decide which private organizations (such as car magazine companies) they want to test on milage. The government shouldn't be dealing with this problem. Let private organizations compete for the best test (resulting in mores sales). It's called a free market economy. Sorry to talk about government, but it is a fix for your problem.
Would this free market idea be the same one that is heavely influenced by outside money.

This show is really good it has been getting better lately. i wasnt to big of a fan a couple months ago. Matt you should have gotten the Top Gear stop.
WTF!? Automotive 'journalism' in the form of a Web video is supposed to be shallow, filled with vague opinions instead of hard facts, slavishly uncritical of car manufacturers, insulting to the viewer's intelligence, and as unenlightened as Maxim Magazine. I am quite pleasantly surprised that none of the above statements can be applied to this clip. Keep it up, gentlemen, and you're liable to give car news videos a good name.
i think they should do it with different distances. like a high way 10 mile 25 mile and like 50 mile maybe even go to 100 miles. then do the same thing in lesser increments for city.
I like Matt's idea of drive it til its stops. set up a circuit with a mix of highway and city at a test track and just go. NO city/highway. One averaged number for all situations and any car.
Good show guys. As for the EPA, they should do a full tank test on City Driving and Highway driving at 65 mph. And then add another column for the first 40 or 50 miles for city and highway (65 mph)to help make people aware of plug-in advantages. They also need to add life expectancy of the batteries too (with a usage of 365 days with 50 miles each day). I really hate how highway EPA is done with tail wind, an empty gas tank, and over inflated tires running the car at 40 mph.
To be honest, i think a sort of system where it accelerates to 60mph at 50% throttle, then stop do it again at 100%, would be the most accurate, buuut that would prolly be an insane amount of work for a group that likely wants to find a way to be lazier
Qod: i like the idea of the local and and distance commute idea but adding in an average speed to that would probably add more sense into those numbers. Also, the tests should be conducted in real world during rush hour so that the element of stop and go is added into the equation aswell, because of the epa's obvious idea that the car is always moving during travel causes massive drops in the
wow it only took ford like half a century to bring the successful euro models over here. hey, maybe they wont be losing a billion dollars a month anymore...
i figured it out! the car industry should copy the real estate market. to buy real estate in the state of TN anyway you must have a realtor. so now to buy a car you must use a car guy. so crappy cars like the astra would never be made or sold cause no car guy would ever buy one.
In Canada there are wait lists for the Saturn Astra. I know people who wanted one because it's a actually a decent car from GM but they couldn't wait.

i think they should do it with different distances. like a high way 10 mile 25 mile and like 50 mile maybe even go to 100 miles. then do the same thing in lesser increments for city.

EPA fix:
I like Matt's idea of drive it til its stops. set up a circuit with a mix of highway and city at a test track and just go. NO city/highway. One averaged number for all situations and any car.

Does America get the Turbo Astra? Because that's the one you really want!

I really hate how highway EPA is done with tail wind, an empty gas tank, and over inflated tires running the car at 40 mph.
ckb115 3 years ago
To be honest, i think a sort of system where it accelerates to 60mph at 50% throttle, then stop do it again at 100%, would be the most accurate, buuut that would prolly be an insane amount of work for a group that likely wants to find a way to be lazier

Log a few hundred of the car's milage in various parts of the country and average the results.
yellowbusguy 3 years ago
Qod: i like the idea of the local and and distance commute idea but adding in an average speed to that would probably add more sense into those numbers. Also, the tests should be conducted in real world during rush hour so that the element of stop and go is added into the equation aswell, because of the epa's obvious idea that the car is always moving during travel causes massive drops in the

... miles per gallon figures. These added elements also would prove to be more accurate than the current idiocracy that is the epa's mpg testing.

wow it only took ford like half a century to bring the successful euro models over here. hey, maybe they wont be losing a billion dollars a month anymore...

Saturn astra..lol...in my Country it is Opel Astra and it is a very good car.

QOD: Fill up the car, drive at a constant speed a give us the mpg.
coboisarapatanas 3 years ago
i figured it out! the car industry should copy the real estate market. to buy real estate in the state of TN anyway you must have a realtor. so now to buy a car you must use a car guy. so crappy cars like the astra would never be made or sold cause no car guy would ever buy one.
dcengland 3 years ago
In Canada there are wait lists for the Saturn Astra. I know people who wanted one because it's a actually a decent car from GM but they couldn't wait.
