  • According to Kathy Hill - T. auletes is the largest cicada in North amercia beating out Quesada gigas and T. resonans! I find that they like sandy soil pine barrens like habitats and are partial to oaks. Hope you can find them. If you are in an area where you suspect they live, listen at and just after sunset. The majority call during this small time period of dusk.

  • @epb471 i know they are found in the south AK,TN, KY,MO.KS GA, SC, NC, AL, but i have not heard anything being said about them in southern IL and they are not found in centrel or northern IL for shure

  • i have heard theese are in illinois but i have never seen nor heard one. this is the largest in north america i think

  • Cool Video! Did you get starting and stopping times by any chance?

  • @VOICESOF1 Actually I did. That day they called for 15 minutes, starting 11 minutes after sunset. Yesterday I was there and they called for the longest I ever heard. Sunset was 8:20PM. 8:24 was the first call. Last call was 8:57. Again I usually hear 15-20 minutes as average. Do you have an interest in T. auletes as well?

  • @epb471 Yes I do-but I think we might know each other. Do you work on LI?

  • @VOICESOF1 Yes I do. Do you live in CT?

  • @epb471 And you're a heart doc?

  • @VOICESOF1 Absolutely!
