since when do zit faced high school kids have superior fighting skills than trained warriors? and theres never been a "badass" marching band. primarily because they consist of the least "badass" people in the school.
I'm pretty sure my band would have just died laughing when I was in high school. How can you take someone seriously in full ninja outfit running on a football field? It would just add to the many "One time at band camp" stories. lol

This was pretty funny, but don't dare do that to a band during their performance. Some people think "oh its just a wimpy band geek" but some of us are tougher than the football team and directors give us permission to take out anyone who gets in our way with our instruments. Keep that advice in mind, it could save your life.

Once someone drove a car through the band while we were practicing. Our (short) director jumped off of a maybe 10ft+ high wall, somehow survived and landed it, chased the car down, and threw the glock at it. Left a dent in the back of the car.

Nah, glockenspiel. Small, hollow, plastic handheld hit it and it makes a noise. Used to keep tempo till the newbies can learn to count and pay attention to the drummers.
Are you sure you're not talking about a Gock Block? an entire glockenspiel is a bit unorthodox to carry around and use to keep tempo.
That's killer though. Mine would probably sick someone on them since he's usually on a lift very high in the air. Low Brass instructor was a beast and could probably chase the car for a bit and jump through one of the windows.
And that made me laugh hard, I could imagine someone chasing the car and jumpin through a window. Crazy, man. Just crazy. The things instructors would do for the band.
Actually if you go to an ortho Dr that deals with both MB&sports they will tell you MB students' injuries are usually worse. In sports you get a lot of clean breaks, according to my ortho DR. In MB they are spiral fractures, stress fractures, lots to do with ligaments&tendons, plus concussions. I myself suffered 4 concussions (one while a MB director) a broken wrist, 2 broken fingers, stress fractures in both ankles and my worse a dislocated knee.
i was in the drumline in high school all four years. i've had twisted ankles, my calves have locked up while marching, tennis elbow, and mild carpel tunnel. it's been 4 years since i've graduated and i still have problems with my left wrist. i've never broken anything though. your injuries sound terrible!

Try spinning a 15 pound MI Garand. You have to deal with getting hit in the face with a lightweight pole while we have to worry about not breaking our hands or fingers, and not cutting open our hands, arms, or heads.
Um, hey genius, do you know how fast those "lightweight" poles are spinning? If you get hit in the head with a rifle, chances are, you are down for the count for at least an hour. Those are heavier than real hunting rifles.
I've been hit in the head with a sabre, the lightest of the guard weapons, and the director was actually going to call a hospital to stop my bleeding, but I said no.
If you were in guard, you KNOW what it's like to have gashes in your hands, broken fingers, etc.
i already left a comment on here but i have to post another. i've had nightmares of the whole drumline falling into a pile. quads can weigh up to 50 lbs, try about 4 of those falling on top of you.
a few friends of mine were in the color guard and there was a broken rib, a concussion, and a torn ligament involved. i agree, it's hard! marching band should be a sport darnit!
Can't be a sport without interacting with an opposing team in real time. Imagine how awesome that would be though. Like, if everyone memorized a bunch of different small drills and songs and two schools marched at each other. Get pulled out for making a mistake and the school with most players at end wins.

Technically, competitive sports are anything where a points or scoring system is involved. A sub category would be physical competitive sports, where there is physical contact, and such.
You don' t see the logic in that is because mine isn't a lexical definition of sports. I've already said that. That doesn't make any of those activities any less difficult or competitive. Just that I wouldn't call them a sport.

yea that seems hard... but in marhcing band you have to remember where to go on the field, what to play, how many counts, what step size, keeping ur intervals, and more.
Band practices more times a week and longer hours than football. When we are praciticing, Ive only seen football players practice twice out of the 5 days a week we practice. We practice for 3 hours a night and have band competitions on the weekends. Trust me, marching band is probably harder than football and takes more skill.

LOL! Dude, our BD is a crazy short asian man. He would kill the "ninjas" if they ever did that to us.
Once someone drove a car through the band while we were practicing. Our (short) director jumped off of a maybe 10ft+ high wall, somehow survived and landed it, chased the car down, and threw the glock at it. Left a dent in the back of the car.
XD Mr. A's band is his baby. He'll kill anyone who messes with it.

Nah, glockenspiel. Small, hollow, plastic handheld hit it and it makes a noise. Used to keep tempo till the newbies can learn to count and pay attention to the drummers.

Are you sure you're not talking about a Gock Block? an entire glockenspiel is a bit unorthodox to carry around and use to keep tempo.
That's killer though. Mine would probably sick someone on them since he's usually on a lift very high in the air. Low Brass instructor was a beast and could probably chase the car for a bit and jump through one of the windows.

In response to the post about injuries:
Actually if you go to an ortho Dr that deals with both MB&sports they will tell you MB students' injuries are usually worse. In sports you get a lot of clean breaks, according to my ortho DR. In MB they are spiral fractures, stress fractures, lots to do with ligaments&tendons, plus concussions. I myself suffered 4 concussions (one while a MB director) a broken wrist, 2 broken fingers, stress fractures in both ankles and my worse a dislocated knee.

i was in the drumline in high school all four years. i've had twisted ankles, my calves have locked up while marching, tennis elbow, and mild carpel tunnel. it's been 4 years since i've graduated and i still have problems with my left wrist. i've never broken anything though. your injuries sound terrible!

Try spinning a 15 pound MI Garand. You have to deal with getting hit in the face with a lightweight pole while we have to worry about not breaking our hands or fingers, and not cutting open our hands, arms, or heads.

Um, hey genius, do you know how fast those "lightweight" poles are spinning? If you get hit in the head with a rifle, chances are, you are down for the count for at least an hour. Those are heavier than real hunting rifles.
I've been hit in the head with a sabre, the lightest of the guard weapons, and the director was actually going to call a hospital to stop my bleeding, but I said no.
If you were in guard, you KNOW what it's like to have gashes in your hands, broken fingers, etc.

i already left a comment on here but i have to post another. i've had nightmares of the whole drumline falling into a pile. quads can weigh up to 50 lbs, try about 4 of those falling on top of you.
a few friends of mine were in the color guard and there was a broken rib, a concussion, and a torn ligament involved. i agree, it's hard! marching band should be a sport darnit!

Can't be a sport without interacting with an opposing team in real time. Imagine how awesome that would be though. Like, if everyone memorized a bunch of different small drills and songs and two schools marched at each other. Get pulled out for making a mistake and the school with most players at end wins.
I had a snapple during break once. The fact:

excuse me? its just as much a sport as anything else! carrying a heavy set of tenors across a field while playing and counting takes skill! and they do compete with other teams, ever heard of dci? same with marching competitions... dont put marching band down... it takes skill

Did I say it wasn't hard? I know it takes a lot of skill, I marched for 4 years. I just view a competitive sport as an activity where you are allowed to physically interfere with an opposing teams strategy, and vice versa. Is that definition right? Not popularly, that's just how I view it
So I'm not putting it down. I remember the hours of practicing in heavy rain and sun, standing at attention with that increasingly heavy trumpet in my hands.

So, basically, you're saying that sporting events such as track, rowing, weightlifting, etc. aren't sports because they don't allow you to physically interfere with the opposing team? I just don't see the logic in that.
Technically, competitive sports are anything where a points or scoring system is involved. A sub category would be physical competitive sports, where there is physical contact, and such.
Just trying to get a point across.

Band practices more times a week and longer hours than football. When we are praciticing, Ive only seen football players practice twice out of the 5 days a week we practice. We practice for 3 hours a night and have band competitions on the weekends. Trust me, marching band is probably harder than football and takes more skill.
