  • what a SEXY SEXY sound

  • Now that's what im talking about! No plastic shit just raw machinery!

  • It is amazing the amount of research that would have been done to make this bike possible. We are talking about a motorcycle which has no surviving duplicate to work off of.

  • extraordinaire !

    superb machining, outstanding job !

  • Super pojazd!!!! Sorreld

  • Skip to 5:45 to watch it start.

  • i'd gleefully sell an organ for this machine.

beautiful work and thanks for carrying it out!

  • @Ecosse57

I'll let my Dad know you approve! He lives for this stuff...

  • @geoffgagan, there are worse things to squander your life over. : )

  • Gorgeous! I just read the entire build on your website. As an engineer by trade, you did a great job. Hats off my friend!!

  • awesome bike... as much as i love piston engines i can see these types of bikes and racing making a comeback but electric powered... they would suit electric power well as they are very minimalist and so very light weight...

  • THAT BIKE IS SO AWESOME!!!

  • Anyone interested should check out Pete's Garage on MySpace. Even Jay Leno is a fan!!

  • @geoffgagan, i've pete's videos but didn't know about the myspace profile, thanks!

  • That´s a tragic end for thoses bikes, and of corse for those riders to,but thanks to them we have great bikes(and helmets too)

  • Love old bikes, this one is no exception :)

Is it really that loud? :)

  • I have seen it run a couple of times. It is louder!

  • Geoff-g. Thanks for the video. Awesome stuff. Due to the lack of original video of these bad boys in action I had forgotten that the V-Twin straight pipes made some good noise. Most are static displays. Is this bike is a personal collection or on display somewhere? I roadrace some and my son rides dirt, he wa amazed at the sound this "bike" made. Many thanks! I know many men long past are smiling on this. God speed.

  • A real tip of the hat to someone who has made the financial committment to build it as well as the builder himself and all involved. It should be in the Smithsonian

  • It is a full remake, Tom.

  • 03:42: Shit, no wonder Schwinn motorcycles are so rare... If Schwinn had kept making motorcycles, Harley-Davidson would be hurting!!

  • So this Schwinn racer is a remake?

  • Thanks boys! Pete has been retired for quite a few years ago, and his passion for old bikes has been one that he has had since he was fourteen. It is something that transcends any borders or nationalities! The thing he loves the most is seeing other people enjoy all aspects of their own machines, and the love for these things that keeps the history alive.

    Keep the faith out there!

  • I love that he recreated a piece of history, and am even more excited that it gets shown here, but honestly it should be shown and judge for what it is, a custom motorcycle. Many recreated "Cobras" are judged as custom cars, no matter how true they are to the original. That is not a slap in the recreators face at all, but all works of art should be judged for what they are, not what they represent or want to be. Either way, beautiful, no matter what country it came from.

  • So old junk, or whatever, have some respect and give kudos where kudos are do, this coming from me, a Scout Sniper combat vet who loves america but also loves creativity and respects it from all countries.

  • Thank goodness there are a few guys like Pete that can recreate something like this that would otherwise be lost forever. I never thought I would see or hear a monster like this OHC Excelsior live again!

  • I detect some anger in your statement, oldjunk. Imagine, a couple of Canadians rebuilding a legendary American racing bike.

    The horror!

  • No, actually what is a horror is having a president of a club wanting to debase all legitimate machines by having a reproduction (FAKE) judged as the real thing.

  • @0ldjunk You're an idiot.

  • I followed the reconstruction of this excelsior on flashback fabrications, and I must say ,I am impressed by the skills of paul. This man has build a superbike. Thanks for sharing this

  • I saw this bike at Legend of the Motorcycle. Wonderful project and great job! Only wish I could have been there to see and hear it run.

  • Aren't you jumping to conclusions a bit ahead of time? At this point I think it is pretty cool to see a piece of history recreated.

  • Everybody knows its not original but it IS a credit to history to have a reproduction made to original specs for future generations, as long as it is not presented as an 88 yr old original. Old junk get a grip.

  • It will be interesting to see if this reproduction machine will be given authentic status by the Antique motorcycle club of America (judged as an antique). If so, what does that say about the club?

  • All I can say is that my dad (Pete Gagan) is like a kid at Christmas! He can't wait to show it off and is on his way to a few meets in the good ole U S of A over the next few weeks. Get out and see it while you can!!

  • That thing sounds awesome!

  • The concept of building a reproduction of a motorcycle where only a few pictures exist and those of only one side of the bike is overwhelming, to say the least. Members of the AMCA have watched with great interest and waited with baited breath for the completion of this motorcycle. My congratulations to all of those that participated in making this Excelsior a reality.
