I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree

Can you honestly say that this 72 Chevelle for example would out perform an Evo on a circuit track with 10 or so turns?

To answer your question. The '72 Chevelle would not outperform the EVO. As is, I don't think it would be possible. Two different eras, two completely different cars. Hardly a comparison there.
Then again, EVO is a heavily modified Lancer, let's say the '72 chevelle is shed with every possible ounce of it's weight and heavily modified too, I bet it could give it a run for it's money.
Can't really compare both but on a track, as is, no.
