  • if anyone else is interested... the easy way for me to play this song is to tune the heavy E string to the fifth harmonic of the A string. then when i'm done i can just tune the 6th string back to the seventh harmonic of the fifth string. i don't have the best ear but i seem to be able to do that okay. retuning all the strings to duplicate phil's tuning takes enough work so i would never do this song if i had to do it

  • wow that was kool . im lucky 2 get sandard 'E' tuning on this guitar i rebuilt in early 80s so I can cross this 1 off my list, lol, you did make it look easy which shows your talant.

  • I didnt make an mp3 of this but I downloaded the video with a few others and I play it while I drive sometimes

  • I sometimes just turn it on in the background cuz i like this version so much!

  • your cover is a million times better than the other covers on youtube. you are the man. you should write your own songs too, and do more covers. maybe some pearl jam. the other covers on youtube of this song are really awful, so awful that i want to write nasty comments but i feel guilty. but your version is really awesome. i am going to put this on mp3 and listen to it in my car.

  • awesome cover and cool interpretation. keep them coming

  • can you send me the tab?? or any sort of help

  • next time set the camera so i can see what you're doing with your left hand!

  • Really nice!

  • are you playing in open G tuning?

  • Dropped D tuning but all dropped a whole tone. CGCFAD

  • @PhilPlay Wait, if everything is dropped a whole tone, then why is your heavy E tuned to C? Shouldn't it be D? (Or did you start at D and tune it down to C)?

  • @redlinechavez yes, every string dropped a whole tone

then heavy 'E' string (or rather D) dropped another whole tone to C. (acually I just tuned to a random string and that's how it turned out)

  • @redlinechavez He said DROPPED D, down a whole tone. Dropped D is DADGBD. Now put this one step lower.

  • close.....keep tryin.......I"rewrote" bron-y-aur when I was younger so it made sense as well......good job man thats how you learn

where did you get your learning? i'll bet you were top of the class! i should probably go there and get smart just like you!

oh wait, then i might go and have to jump off a cliff.

  • you know how stupid that sounded go back to your comedy central buddy....

Led Zeppelin rules rock so i dont want to hear blasphemy from you again...understand

  • oooh, threats on youtube.

    who threatens his buddy anyway?

look out everyone, he'll find you and make sure you never shout any "blasphemy" again.

stop taking it so seriously. do you have so little of a life that you need to defend led zeppelin? trust me, they don't care!

  • your right, im sorry...i sometimes forget what this song is about and what led zeppelin is about and almost every band in the 60s and 70s

i forgot about Peace and Love,

    i am sorry man....=]

incredible, its like the fifth time i've listened to it, you took it to a whole new level i'm inspired

  • Yeah, cool arrangement. I'm pretty sure I even heard a bit of When The Levee Breaks in a part of the vid.

    5*****

  • hey man what tuning are you in dadgab dadgbe or dadgbd

  • Love it!!!!!

  • awesome dude ...awesome

  • Great cover! how did you get it?

  • A mate of mine used that tuning and played the intro like that but the rest I just sort of made up ('cause try as I might I don't seem to be able to do the picking like the original!)

  • What tuning are you using?

  • very cool, I like you take on it.. strumming instead of picking.

  • very nice, great work

  • wow that was great!

  • Super-bad-ass, not just PhilPlay! love the levee outro!

  • Tight brother!!

  • yeah loved too!cant find it either.tried ultimate guitar but it doesnt sound right!!!

  • Very nicely done. Great interpretation!

  • your hard work has paid off here, really nice that you can make a classic your own and still sound great

  • hey this is a great version. I would love to learn to play this how you do. thanks a lot for sharing this. I enjoyed it..

  • very very nice, i like it a lot

  • fantastic version in a different key. congrats!

  • fantastic man, fantastic...

    regards from argentina

  • Good job, and as samnight said, good to know people know there are other Joni Mitchell fans out there.

  • i like it

  • Nice version of a beautiful song. Congrats!

  • Wow! This puts a very unique spin on "Going to California". It has that nice, folk quality that could be appreciated by any Led Zeppelin fan. Great job!

  • i usually dont like covers changed up but this was awesome good work bro

  • This is outstanding. What tuning is this in? I'm very impressed :)

  • It's standard tuning with the bottom E dropped to D. I say 'standard' but the guitar's not in concert pitch on the video. I'm a bit lazy when it comes to tuning and will tune to a random string! I'll probably do it again properly sometime.

  • Don't bother, haha :) relative tuning is the way I play also. I like to tune where I can sing, and since I don't play with anyone, it works out just fine :)

  • so where is this explanation of how to play the this song of which you speak? can u plees send it, i'm anxious to know.

  • Wow...that was fantastic. Obviously you know Going to California was written about Joni Mitchell. Thanks for making my day.

  • Great style; great song! Thanks!
