first of all u are missing metal strapping's from the wall to the roof (in case of strong wind) second sub-floor will rot sins its directly over the soil and no ventilation in the foundation (no air movement = rot in max 5 years +no ventilation on the roof is a bad idea)
and third A weeping tile is a porous pipe used for underground drainage. have u ever learn about it??? (basic's is a Bitch isn't it lol )
my school does a project like this every summer and spring. we go out into the community and set up a number of craft days in the community canter for kids who love to make stuff and get creative but there familys can not afford all the fings like paper and glue. we give them a free meal aswell so its realy good
You should make a more detailed version of this video like explaining how you made the foundation and what tools and materals you used also how much of it, where we can get everything, and how much it costs.
this is alright in the states, where the housing quality is low, but this would never fly in europe. They just wouldn't allow you to build a house like that. you wouldn't get planning permission. and if you went ahead anyway, the powers that be would tear it down.

Im looking into building my own home but I want a basement so I need to know what equipment I need to dig it out. Much thanks mate! (Btw keep up the work man...negative people are often worth even less than their negative comments lol)
I have an idea for building a residential area ... Something that can not be found in Romania ... houses in new style, pool, park, etc ... It will be something new for Romania, and anyone would like a house there ... It will cost about ten million euros ... Looking for investor ...
@ssixpak that was 16 on center construction by the looks of it... If you could knock down that wall I would be utterly shocked. Even a shed wall which I would assume to be 24 on center would be insane no knock down even with a running start....you must do a lot of gardening to have a 800+ sq ft shed. lol, I don't get your point at all? its a 1 bed for 1 lady... why would she need or even want a 3000 sqft home?
@gtq838 I wasn't talking about the size of it. I was on about the materials used but I'm glad it wouldn't be easy to knock down, I guess I'm just used to houses being built with bricks and mortar.
@ssixpak A brick and mortar home is almost always supported by some sort of wood or metal substructure like you see in this video. The stack of bricks you see around most homes is not what gives it its strength, it's the underlying wood or metal frame.
tthis is very weak house, one tornato whud crash her, in Croatia we made lot stronger houses for lot longer time....not as it was in old times when wall was 1.5 m fat...but it is good lik it is now, enyway this is awesome video like, subscribe and faverite :)
@IvoCroBeduin what is weak about this house? also, we don't get many tornadoes in the north... lastly download google chome it has built in spell check so you don't miss spell every word you say while being insulting a condescending.
oh yeah one more thing when you say the old times when walls were 1.5 meters thick are you talking about ancient Egyptian pyramid walls because I've never seen walls that thick any place ever and never has anybody ever made 2x4 walls that thick
@gtq838 mate i live in Croatia, that is Europa, and evry building older from 50 years (before ww2) have wall atleast 1.5m thick...and evry new hause have half meter wall thick...but that is here, i see there in usa u have very weak and cheap houses...nothing bad whit it, but it is fact
@robertmontanez it's not a competition. Also we are all semi-skilled volunteers who had never really done something on this scale before. Additionally most of the days we spent at this site the temperatures ranged in the 0-20*F range so it was rather difficult to stay warm and safe while working.
@themefund Hey! Great looking house! I'm looking to build my own home for me and my wife and I was interested in knowing about how much this house cost to build? If you don't mind me asking.
I doubt its easy , they dont show the mathematical pre-planning that went on to make it posable to now five the illusion it is now easy , Miscalculated costs, buying of supplies , measuring for the fabrication of the raw material eliminating as little waste as possible to save from you wallet for paying for it a Home DEPOT
why didnt you put your plywood on your walls before you lifted it? go right over the windows and just cut that shit out after its so much faster and it squares your wall too (well you have to square it before you sheet it) so everythings just about pefect when you go to level your walls.
No strapping on the roof b4 sheeting it?...bet it gets hot in there. That air space is important. I didn't see any venting on the roof, this building wouldn't pass inspection here in Canada. ..make a good cottage tho :)
@TheKaschpint What strapping are you referring to on the roof? Even here depending on the size of the roof you don't need roof vents if you have vented soffits. The only thing I can see off this video that wouldn't pass in canada is the block foundation because of the frost penetration into the ground.
@cscarnage When sheeting a roof in steel u need 2 strap with 2x4 to allow a proper air space. 1"1/2 is all u need. Resting the steel right on the roof gives way to condinsation and that leads 2 rust. I know weather shield was installed b4 the metal went on and thats fine. Venting IS a must, in any build. Or at least a gable vent or 2. When I build a roof like this I use ridge cap venting......And ya,, the vid doesn't show if footings were poured down at 4ft b4 the block work was done.
@TheKaschpint insulation stops with vented soffits counts as venting under code and i'm pretty sure the national buildng code just calls for any kind of ventilation in any enclosed rafter space. but on its own obviously.. not as effective as ridge vents or gable vents combined with soffit that allow more airflow. i dont think anyone uses blocks like that even with piles or grade beams in canada tho. anyways.. the code is the absolute minimum you can get away with.. hopefully we all exceed it eh
@cscarnage Yep..lol, the minimum. I've built from cities and farming towns 2 cottage country and code requirements do change a little depending on what ur doin ( tho they shouldn't)...the inspector in a certain township will aways make a difference i find as well. And every crew will do things just a little different from the next, and exceeding it or over doing it ( if one can afford to ) gives one piece of mind. Nothing worse than having to go back on ur own work eh?...
@saturnia22 insulation, plumbing, drywall, paint, and electric were all installed after this video was over, this video only shows primary carpentry on the home.
I didn't see any proper insulation. You've got snow in there! I would have used atleast 6 inches of insulation material in the walls, and even more on the roof. Many use even more here in Finland.
@luovahulluus insulation, plumbing, drywall, paint, and electric were all installed after this video was over, this video only shows primary carpentry on the home.
Well yeah, thats really easy when you dont have a solid foundation and a dozen men working together, not to mention how small that house is.

wooooooooow im trying to figure out what song that is haha some cartoon or game ill remember...but nice fuckin video=] ima take that trade i really think im good with my hands and ill do good at this job
@0o7125 The house wasn't finished at the end of the video. I didn't film the electric/plumbing because it wouldn't have been exciting to watch any of that.
@themefund they made the house and then did the plumbing? that doesnt make sense....where was the house built? bc in chicago, you cant build a house without doing the plumbing or electrical first...
If you are considering modular or prefab home, building with recycled shipping containers is worth taking a look at.
Good resource is the Residential Shipping Container Primer website. A SHOWCASE OF SHIPPING CONTAINER HOMES AND BUILDINGDS, AND A DO IT YOURSELF (DIY) REFERENCE FOR CONVERTING RECYCLED INTERMODAL CARGO SHIPPING CONTAINERS INTO BUILDINGS AND ARCHITECTURE.
Lots of great example buildings, details, facts, and links to other articles...
how much did that house cost when finished, and how many sqft is that...I have been considering building a house that is 26ft x 26ft, which is 648 sqft I believe..I have recently been able to build it for less $15,000 in earlier rough estimates, thank includes everything, down to interior trim, appliances, and all..thanks..I would be doing all the work myself..I am sure Jesus is watching..
not very big though is it? 65k for it!!!! WOW, forget the music being ripped, the old lady was ripped off here, my summer house is bigger than that and cost 1/10th of the cost!
@R6rYamaha considering more than 70% of the cost was paid for by the government and the other 30% was made up of extremely low interest loans, I'd say she made off pretty well. Also the $65K estimate technically includes labor costs, which had to be included for taxing purposes, however. the labor was all volunteer, so the actual cost is lower.
Also part of the cost was hauling away the debris from the house which used to stand in this plot and new zoning permits as the old ones had expired.
A question that has been bothering me and I can't find the answer. How do you attach the roof to the house to prevent air from blowing under the eves and into the house, or into the attic?
@Dragging40 Actually on most homes you WANT the air to flow into your attic so as to lower molding issues and the like.
To answer your question though, after you've attached the trusses (the triangle roof pieces) with nails to the exterior and interior walls, you attach what is called a "hurricane clip" to the truss and the exterior walls.
The roof is then nailed to the top of the truss, with the soffit remaining open (or covered with vented vinyl pieces) for ventilation.
very nice! i bet that old lady is happy for you! was a nice thing to do. i plan on getting myself a plot of land and building my home from scratch. seems like a very simple design. and looks like it wouldn't be terrably too expensive. about how much did this cost?
@danz409 I seem to remember the 65K figure being thrown around at the time, but I honestly don't remember the exact figure, and much of it had been paid for through grants so the figure could be skewed as they could have been talking about *OUR* costs, or the total costs and I wouldn't have known.
@assassin6actual it was the dead of winter and most of the work was being done by inexperienced young volunteers. We also couldn't do more than 5-6 hours of work per day on the house as the light would fail us and our organization would limit the amount of hours we could put in each day.
When I tallied up the actual hours worked on the project we came in at a little under 30 hours from the first shovelful of dirt to dig the foundation to lock-up stage. it's just spread over a few days.
can some please reply me my english is not good i just want know
the start at the vedio u know the rock, stone stock whatever you called the grey stone at the begginin i want know the name of that thing can someone please tell me
@jcb570 actually most of the funding for the project came from governmental grants. While all of the labor and most of the materials were donated, a good portion of this house couldn't have been bui;t without the assistance from the government.
Not that I think governmental aide is a perfect system or anything, I'm just saying .
@themefund I live in south Georgia. How can I get Govt grants to have my home repaired. It's in horrible condition. I have a lot left on my mortgage and cannot afford to repair it. I have this window in my bathroom that is this soggy moldy gross nightmare. I'm all girly about it so I wouldn't even know how to fix that. I need a handy man.
@inkme1983 I honestly wish I knew so I could help you. I was low on the totem pole in this organization. One good option for you might be to contact your local chapter of Habitat for Humanity, they don't typically do home repair, but they'd likely be able to point you in the right direction.
What we did for the woman featured in this video was work out a partial payment plan, she paid a portion of the repair/building costs and the government through USDA grants took the bulk of it.
@kg02170 because they would be enormously heavy. In addition there would be issues with keeping the walls *actually* square if we installed the sheeting first, therefore we put up the studwalls (all of them) and then the sheeting.
@kg02170 If I remember correctly (which I often don't) the sheeting for the walls was also attached to the sub-floor 2x12s, meaning they overhung the walls themselves.
This in addition to the additional weight and the overlapping in the corners was probably the reason.
Also I've never been involved in a project (whether with CAP or H4H or any other building charity) where we sheeted the walls before we erected them. I suppose it's just not done like that.
@MrGrowproductions I'm not sure about the final costs, what I am sure of is that at least a third of the costs came from donated materials. All of the plumbing hardware in the house were donated by various corporations and individuals.
The rest of the costs were covered by grants.
That being said I do remember the number of $55K being thrown around, whether that was the overall cost, or the cost after all of the donations and grants, I don't know.

my Question is. i didn't see electrical s or pluming.? why how can u live with out running water or or a place to shit.?
0o7125 1 year ago 12
@0o7125 The house wasn't finished at the end of the video. I didn't film the electric/plumbing because it wouldn't have been exciting to watch any of that.

@storefrnt I have a friend who just converted a shipping container for an apartment in his back yard.

how much did that house cost when finished, and how many sqft is that...I have been considering building a house that is 26ft x 26ft, which is 648 sqft I believe..I have recently been able to build it for less $15,000 in earlier rough estimates, thank includes everything, down to interior trim, appliances, and all..thanks..I would be doing all the work myself..I am sure Jesus is watching..

You'll have to build a brick house for the old lady once the wolf blows this wooden house down.
mmsbludhound 1 year ago
not very big though is it? 65k for it!!!! WOW, forget the music being ripped, the old lady was ripped off here, my summer house is bigger than that and cost 1/10th of the cost!
R6rYamaha 1 year ago
@R6rYamaha considering more than 70% of the cost was paid for by the government and the other 30% was made up of extremely low interest loans, I'd say she made off pretty well. Also the $65K estimate technically includes labor costs, which had to be included for taxing purposes, however. the labor was all volunteer, so the actual cost is lower.
Also part of the cost was hauling away the debris from the house which used to stand in this plot and new zoning permits as the old ones had expired.

yay DK music =D that house is tiny but cute =D

A question that has been bothering me and I can't find the answer. How do you attach the roof to the house to prevent air from blowing under the eves and into the house, or into the attic?
Dragging40 1 year ago
@Dragging40 Actually on most homes you WANT the air to flow into your attic so as to lower molding issues and the like.
To answer your question though, after you've attached the trusses (the triangle roof pieces) with nails to the exterior and interior walls, you attach what is called a "hurricane clip" to the truss and the exterior walls.
The roof is then nailed to the top of the truss, with the soffit remaining open (or covered with vented vinyl pieces) for ventilation.

very nice! i bet that old lady is happy for you! was a nice thing to do. i plan on getting myself a plot of land and building my home from scratch. seems like a very simple design. and looks like it wouldn't be terrably too expensive. about how much did this cost?
danz409 1 year ago
@danz409 I seem to remember the 65K figure being thrown around at the time, but I honestly don't remember the exact figure, and much of it had been paid for through grants so the figure could be skewed as they could have been talking about *OUR* costs, or the total costs and I wouldn't have known.
themefund 1 year ago
should not have taken more than 2 days to get to lock up stage for that little shack.
assassin6actual 1 year ago
@assassin6actual it was the dead of winter and most of the work was being done by inexperienced young volunteers. We also couldn't do more than 5-6 hours of work per day on the house as the light would fail us and our organization would limit the amount of hours we could put in each day.
When I tallied up the actual hours worked on the project we came in at a little under 30 hours from the first shovelful of dirt to dig the foundation to lock-up stage. it's just spread over a few days.

now this is wat its all about people helping people and keeping the gov out of it
jcb570 1 year ago

I need a handy man.
inkme1983 1 year ago
@inkme1983 I honestly wish I knew so I could help you. I was low on the totem pole in this organization. One good option for you might be to contact your local chapter of Habitat for Humanity, they don't typically do home repair, but they'd likely be able to point you in the right direction.
What we did for the woman featured in this video was work out a partial payment plan, she paid a portion of the repair/building costs and the government through USDA grants took the bulk of it.

why didnt they ply the walls before standing them???
kg02170 1 year ago
@kg02170 because they would be enormously heavy. In addition there would be issues with keeping the walls *actually* square if we installed the sheeting first, therefore we put up the studwalls (all of them) and then the sheeting.
themefund 1 year ago
@themefund would it not be easier to square the wall first on the ground then ply it???nice work all the same man
kg02170 1 year ago
@kg02170 If I remember correctly (which I often don't) the sheeting for the walls was also attached to the sub-floor 2x12s, meaning they overhung the walls themselves.
This in addition to the additional weight and the overlapping in the corners was probably the reason.
Also I've never been involved in a project (whether with CAP or H4H or any other building charity) where we sheeted the walls before we erected them. I suppose it's just not done like that.
themefund 1 year ago
@kg02170
Sheathing walls before erecting is a huge time saver, and is the proper way carpenters are taught in colleges across Canada.

How much did it cost to build??
MrGrowproductions 1 year ago
@MrGrowproductions I'm not sure about the final costs, what I am sure of is that at least a third of the costs came from donated materials. All of the plumbing hardware in the house were donated by various corporations and individuals.
The rest of the costs were covered by grants.
That being said I do remember the number of $55K being thrown around, whether that was the overall cost, or the cost after all of the donations and grants, I don't know.
