If the government would have given the money back to the tax payers, the tax payers would have had money to pay thier loans off, and we would not be hearing all about AIG. If any normal employee screwed up half as bad as they did, they would not get their raise and would be working on their resume.

$700 Billion is grossly inaccurate. Here are the bailout stats AIG-$40B, Citigroup-$45B, JPMorgan $25B, Merrill $10B, Bank of America $35B, Goldman $10B, GMAC $5B, & Morgan Stanley $10Billion.
