REally loved this - shared it with lots of friends. Thanks for creating it. Covers a lot of complex ideas in a way that could really inspire young people, who are presented with lots of versions of this Truth, this one is really simple and profound, lovely.
It's typical that humans imagine the original situation or "G_d" to be a completely self-obsessed, bored and lonely adolescent.
No wonder when he becomes human he is people like Bush, Cheney and Hitler.
BTW, there is nothing whatsoever new about this version, except the attribution of silly character traits to The Source. In a less silly version, it is the common gnostic view, and you can find a better form of it reading Aurobindo. I keep wondering why New Agers want to distract from quality.
@Shortana If someone would NOT take this story seriously in some way, it wouldn't have ANY appeal to him, except maybe to enjoy the music and the little pictures.
I just want to make sure two things:
1. the Neo-Platonist ideas in there are nothing new, please refer to Plotin, for instance:
wikipedia. org/ wiki/ Neoplatonism# The_One
(remove spaces)
2. there are serious problems with this philosophy because if G_d NEEDS to cause suffering to inform himself HE is not a pure object of worship.
@LooksAeterna Check out PanenDeism! I think it provides an alternate way of looking at modern Neo-Platonism. Also, suffering is simply the reality we experience. Some have it, some don't, but in the end we are not really we; we are the I Am that is proving that suffering can be fixed. When everyone comes together, everyone can suppress suffering, one body at a time.
@lenlee14 It seems we agree on my point 1. As for 2. your reply evades but doesn't answer it. And as concerns suffering, it isn't absent for an individual merely on the grounds that the individual denies it. The activites like striving, wanting and disliking, for instance, of that individual, however, prove suffering's presence. We are not only talking about the torment of a foot ripped off but of any deviation from absolute bliss and contentment - suffering, dukkha, stress, frustration, etc.
@LooksAeterna Well, all animals feel suffering. Even elephants mourn their dead as one small example, so I see what you are saying. Perhaps the root purpose of suffering in this life is to be able to achieve bliss. Without suffering, bliss could not exist because it would simply be all there was. I think suffering sucks, but as soon as we stop seeking bliss and simply become content with the nothingness in between both options, peace can be found with this life.

@lenlee14 "Perhaps the root purpose of suffering in this life is to be able to achieve bliss."
Doesn't make much sense if that's where you already are.
"Without suffering, bliss could not exist because it would simply be all there was."
Who cares ? It would just be what bliss is without the recognition of "bliss" as opposed to suffering. So what ? Are you suggesting the whole hell is aimed at aquiring a useless concept ? It WOULD be problematic to worship one with such a pathological intent.
@LooksAeterna I suppose if all there is IS bliss, then we could not appreciate it with the same appreciation one has after understanding how awful suffering can be. Who said anything about worship?
@lenlee14 "I suppose if all there is IS bliss, then we could not appreciate it"
AGAIN: If all is perfect at zero, who cares ? There is nothing wrong in a perfect situation, not need to "appreciate" it. If it is NOT perfect, however, then it means G_d is not perfect - with traumatic consequences - which is the problem I mentioned.
"Who said anything about worship?"
Point 2. of my comment to which you had originally reacted. ADS ?
@LooksAeterna You interest me! Haha would you be so kind as to either PM me your thoughts? I feel as though you have revealed something to me that has caused me to remember how little I truly know.
Also on a seperate note, I think the original reactor was Shortana. I do not understand what ADS means. :p
@lenlee14 Seriously: "I think the original reactor was Shortana."
What's that got to do with what I had said ? Which is: "Point 2. of my comment to which YOU had originally reacted." I did not speak about the original reaction to MY original comment.
@LooksAeterna Well I asked what ADS means lol. I said nothing about worship. He is not a pure object of worship in this philosophy, is he? Anyways, I said I agree with you now, would you mind elaborating on your views in a message? I feel like you dodged my request to learn more about how you think.
Again: I did, and you apparently wanted to talk about what I said. How many times do I have to repeat until it penetrates ?
"I feel like you dodged my request to learn more about how you think."
YOU keep dodging YOUR responsibility to approach me on PM if you have a SPECIFIC question. But if it would mean that you are not listening properly again, and I have to keep reitering things, I would ask that you kindly abstain. My thoughts are not important.
I will, however, forgive you for pretending to be interested while in reality you cannot even bring yourself to formulate your specific interest and owning your responsibility to approach the target of your interest. Further I will forgive you for your attempt of heaping these burdens of formulation and approach on the one you are supposedly interested in and expecting him to read your mind regarding your questions while you save time + energy.
God gave us life, got the ball rolling and then let us evolve slowly as we have been for millions of years. Any other way would of been boring I guess.

Our God was never a child, and he always was all-knowing and perfect in understanding. I think this video misrepresents him in that respect, but I do like it for the fact that it reminds us that behind everything is God's love. Thats what everything comes down to.
God was never anything and in fact everything at the same time, God is not a he or a she, the misinterpratation comes on anthropomorphizing his image, god is everything and nothing, the zero and the infinite, the alpha and omega, the black and white, the light and darkness, nothing there is outside of God.
yeah but...that scene...war, fithgting. i just don´t believe that´s really Him...i believe it´s we.. We forgetting Him, not searching for Him, not realizing the true essence of Him completely revealed in Jesus.
Hi SwOmy. Becoming Me is a version of a story that -- I believe -- is being told (or sung!) within each of us, all the time, if only we could hear it. Many people have glimpsed it within themselves, often with the help of a trigger, such as mushrooms. For me, most of the experiences came via Holotropic Breathwork. You can read more about the ideas behind the story at my website. You might also like Stan Grof's The Cosmic Game. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thanks for giving me the heads up that you had turned your incredible book into a video. I've been trumpeting your book for years and now I can trumpet your video. This is the best theology around and in such an approachable form! Well done and keep 'em coming! Not only should every kid have your book, but every adult, too! I'll be sure and put this on my blog.
Dear Rev. Katie - Thanks for that. I am amazed by how many different religious groups (and nonreligious groups) have found this story consistent with their core understanding. Maybe we all have more in common than we think! Please do share your experiences using Becoming Me with your congregation, if you feel so inclined. I'm sure that this would be of interest to others.
This is stunningly beautiful: moving and powerful. I feel compelled to watch it again and again. And every time I see it, I notice more meaningful elements--there's so much here! "Becoming Me" is the kind of film you never knew you needed until you see it. Then you wonder how you ever understood your life without it.
please, author, producer of this... u need to have a female narrator version of this. for those who believe in God as Divine Mother... it will tottaly be awesome. like, the narrators voice, is nice, sincere, full of love. but i want to hear the soft and tender voice of my Divine Mother speaking to me in the same way, saying the same words. can u make it happen?
by saying god as the devine mother represents a woman and her voice must be feminine you are also being judgemental and putting a human element to the word god. until we can see that god is not outside ourselves, and that god is not female, male, water, dirt whatever....we will never know god. god is all god just is. dont try to understand it, dont put a sex to it. the most precious thing you can do is not try to understand, just know. god just is.
Dear FreeingYou. I agree, that we can't put a sex to God. That's why having any narrator for this story -- whether male or female -- is already a compromise, a 'step down' from the ultimate. You could even say that trying to express this in the form of a story is problemmatic, a deviation from the fact that God just is. The first line should probably be "Beyond time and space, I am", but then there would be nothing to do and nowhwere to go. And not quite so much fun!
The teachings of Ramana Maharshi are represented in this video until the final separating statement "but I still love YOU." - From a Peruvian whistle maker in Silver City, NM Don Wright.
An incredible picture of our oneness with God. It's the Gospel of Thomas in pictures - From a pastor of a used to be Southern Baptist Church, Broadway Church in Kansas City, Mo., Paul Smith
I just downloaded the full size version from the website and watched with my girlfriend. She was crying within one minute. Gave her a FELT SENSE of oneness. This realization that we are not separate is the true aim of all spiritual paths.
This little film short is beautifully crafted and has the potential to change the world. Every child and adult should have the opportunity to view this. It reminds us that we are all part of the one consciousness - untimately, there can be no 'us and them' only WE
Part 3 - And these can be very good, but also a lot of that comes from fear and wanting to control my live and thus his live in a very tense way. When I become aware of that more and more and renounce to act from these conditionings I can make room for consciousness wanting to raise consciousness! Would be great to read later on how you deal with that?!!
Vanessa Koenig, Amsterdam, Holland (I wrote this on Justin's account).
Part 2 - Then I also see the responsibility that I as a parent, have to develop this realisation in myself. Cause then I can talk about my own experience that I have with meditation and engaging with others in spiritual inquiry. And when I develop towards more consciousness, more God, I can be a free parent and raise my son in a free way. I see that there are many conditionings and old structures in me in how I raise him.
Yes indeed! Thanks so much for putting this on youtube! I have got the book at home and this movie is very touching. My son of five and I watched it together. My son liked it and sometimes had to laugh (when God says that I am you and you are me) with a kind of recognition. He also has a natural longing to know about Live, God and why he is here, to realize that that is God that wants to know itself is amazing!
another lovely piece, thanks, Rita

Part 3 - And these can be very good, but also a lot of that comes from fear and wanting to control my live and thus his live in a very tense way. When I become aware of that more and more and renounce to act from these conditionings I can make room for consciousness wanting to raise consciousness! Would be great to read later on how you deal with that?!!
