Well, actually, these bozos have given me a great way to build up strength after my hip replacement!!! Different strokes for different folks....one should not be so judgmental simple because it doesn't fit their "idea" of what's appropriate!!! These pathetic poles are cheap .... not expensive at all!!!
I think this sports a load of shit, all these bozos think there good with there poles in hand I could only imagine how much these pathetic poles cost....waste of money
You should think and then talk..the sticks are only to help you to hold your arms right.. I don't think that this NW technique in this vid is very effective, anyway. And btw there are a lot of walking-sticks that don't cost much..only take a look around the internet... You needn't to be rich for that.
I definitely agree with bergahoy - definitely not the proper poles, nor the proper technique. Keep your elbows slightly bent to avoid joint problems and open your hands once they go behind your hip - only possible with proper poles! And go nordic walking out in nature, not on pavement - much more enjoyable :-) Greets from Switzerland beefit.ch
No, no no. She doesn't even have Nordic Walking Poles but ordinary trekking poles. The point of the exercise is to move the muscles in the shoulder and back area and you have to swing the arms back releasing the pole on the swing, too many details to describe here, but to cut a long story short this is not NW.
The title is inappropriate. It is the proper Exerstrider walking technique (sadly called Urban Poling in Canada). It's not necessarely the proper nordic walking technique. It is one technique in a whole bunch of technique invented (mainly in North America like those Barrett or Nottingham technique). Personnaly, this technique is too stiff. It's up to the consumer to decide.
Be careful when you choose your instructor. Make sure that he/or she is INWA certified
She is demonstrating the original Exerstrider technique developed in the 1980s by Tom Rutlin. It differs from the European Nordic Walking technique in having straighter, more forward arms (at pole plant) and not letting the hand pass behind the body (and so no straps are needed). There is debate about which method is better. Both have been used very successfully by many people.
It is a technique called EMW method developed by Tom Rutlin. I am in Taiwan and personally attended Tom's class in USA and I got good result of this total body exercise method. It is a good method for all ages and much easier to learn than other Nordic walking method which may not be suitable for senior people. I recomend those not yet use EMW method to have a try then you will find how it works.
as a fitness instructor i would never recommend having straight arms. it 'locks' the elbows and this case causes unneccessary stress. dno if other ppl agree with me?
This is a GREAT quick look at Exerstride method Nordic pole walking. Just one comment...the arm should be fully extended, but not "straight". There should aways be a slight bend in the elbow when using this technique.

This is not proper technique of NW. Using this style poles are useless, no more muscles are moving etc.

Definitely supposed to have bent 90 degree elbows. However, I agree with hood, she does have a nice bum.

forget it!
this is not only totally wrong, it is also dangerous.
exercise like that for a month and i guarantee you severe neck, shoulder, ellbow and wrist trauma.
stalking that way, although funny to watch, is natural for storks only.
