  • Pump is installed but wont turn on? I reset it with the button in the hatch, but still no dice. Could it be the wiring, maybe a relay or a fusible link?

  • @snodz86 You may want to check the wiring to see if the pump has power going to it.

  • i got it! it had some double sided tape above the tank! your video was awesome! very very very helpful!

  • @snodz86 That's weird. Glad you got it out and that we could help out. Have a great day.

  • that very first bolt u took off i do not have that one on my mustang. i took the strap bolts off and the filler neck bolts off. the tank shakes a little bit but just doesn't want to come down.

  • i have an 88 mustang gt. i took out all the bolts like you said and had jack under gas tank but the tank will just not come down! i can wiggle it a little bit and the filler neck will come out but the tank just seems like its stuck? any suggestions? maybe a prybar and just let loose??

  • @snodz86 If you loosened everything that we show in the video(s) it should come right down for you.

  • Is it possible to reposition your fuel cap like in a gt sports car like bugatti veyron or audi tt and have it fully functional?

  • @kassop It would probably take quite a bit of fabrication, to relocate it on the vehicle.

  • @1aauto Its on a toyota mr2, i want to relocate the fuel cap above the original position on the quarter glass section. do you think it will be a big job?

  • @kassop There more than likely would be quite a bit of fabrication to be done.

  • @1aauto Ok thanks for the tip, going start working on it.

  • Hi 1AAuto!

The gas gauge recently on my 1988 ford mustang lx 5.0 goes past full when the car is on everytime. I only have about a quarter tank left in it but it goes past full. Is it most likely the fuel sending unit? The car starts right up perfectly fine. When I turn it off, the gauge goes down a little bit. I've been doing research about this issue and saw on some forums that its possible it can be the "Anti-Slosh Module" which is located behind the cluster.

  • @dc007fan HI...well I have a 92 LX with the same issue. It's usually one of two things, it could be the sending unit, or there's a module behind the gas gauge in the cluster that tends to go bad. If the sending unit doesn't resolve the issue, more than likely its the module on the backside of the cluster. Hope this helps you out.

  • @1aauto Thanks! The good news is that my gas gauge went back to normal. I decided to disconnect the plug where the gas tank is. The result was the same when I turned the key on. So I connected the plug back in and just turned on the car on and keep it at idle. Eventually it was going down and went back to a quarter where it was supposed to be. I was researching about this issue for mustangs and people were saying it can also be a short within the wires between the sending unit to the gas gauge.

  • @dc007fan I've thought about trying this too. I'll have to give it a try in the spring. :)

  • @1aauto I hope it works out for you! It seems like these mustangs are famous for this issue. I did read about the "Anti-Slosh Module" and its purpose is supposed to not make your fuel gauge bouncy upon turns, braking, and going up/down on hills. According to what I've read, the anti-slosh module was discontinued for vehicles from 87-89. Unless you can get it from a ford dealership which is better than not finding any.

  • @1aauto i have a leak where the filler tube connects to the tank can u describe in detail how its attached and where can i find the ruber piece

  • @atxcadillacking We carry those gaskets on our website. Here's a link to them. They have a grove that helps to hold the gasket in place on the gas tank. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com/1A/FuelTankFillerNeck/Ford/Mustang/MCBGS00003/534057/1989?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=youtube&utm_campaign=1ATony

  • @TheGreatWoody89 The fuel filler tube on this car goes into a rubber gasket on the gas tank, so you would need to remove the tank to service the fuel filler neck. Hope this helps you out.

  • okay so the tank i have on my 81 is from a 94, the sending unit have the hoses hooked up to them but they are steel braided and impossible to get off. help?

  • @20002241 If there's some type of a nut or flange holding them on you could try to free them up with some penetrating oil.

  • great video!!!!

  • i have a 1981 mustang coupe, same thing or not?

  • @20002241 The tank in your 81 Mustang should be pretty close to the one shown in the video. You may have a couple of lines that are different, because your car was not fuel injected.

  • Is the procedure the same on an 1999 Mustang 3.8L?

  • @Actueel68 The procedure would be different on the 99 Mustang, because it's a different platform.

  • When replacing the fuel pump is it necessary to replace the sending unit

  • @23bosskid You don't have to. However I usually do, because your already in there and have the tank down, and chances are that the fuel pump and regulator are the same age, and have never been replaced before.

  • @1aauto

I'm going to do this repair myself but I am scared on doing. I have a 1994 mustang. Do I follow the same steps ? Are they almost identical ? Any dangers on doing it ? Thanks

  • @cz619 The process should be the same.

  • @heavy71chevy No problem, it is what it is!

  • thanks Kevin Bacon

  • @youngvic812 I'll take that as a compliment

  • @1aauto lol.. good.. btw great vid... helped me out alot... wish you had more views, u diserve it

  • This video is representative of most fuel tank replacements. The general procedure is the same. Ideally you want as little gas left in the tank as possible. Disconnect electrical and fuel line connections. Support the tank. Straps usually unbolt at one end. Lower tank slowly. Transfer parts to new tank and reinstall with new straps. Obviously connections and bolt sizes etc will differ from car to car.
