All you really need is the weapons control system and rotors. The rest allows you to get back to base in one piece.

Startup takes a while to learn, but once your in the air, I found it to be much easier. And even though it is a simulator, it's still a game.

The hud display is orange for day and green for night the US Army payed millions of dollars to see what was better for the eyes during flight day or night.

The actual engine start-up I would guess would probly only take about a minute or so... So in a real emergency the pilot could have that thing off the ground from a complete shut down in probly less than 2 minutes...... my 2 cents anyways...

This is the most detailed cockpit ever created. Thats what I like! When they make simulation for only ONE aircraft and make it detailed to the end. I hate when they put 10 different half-simulated aircraft just to have them. Thats whats so bad about the LOCKON. They should just simulate SU27...nothing else..

This game has just been renamed Digital Combat Simulations- Black Shark. its being released in 2008.after that, another version will be released featuring the AH-64 Apache, and another featuring the A-10 warthog.

The Black Shark game is based around the Caucasus region and will have a Campaign system with a moving front line that depends on mission results.

Actually, this military version of Black Shark called The Battle Simulator. I'm not sure public version will have all that switches. Maybe, maybe not. Eagle Dynamics(creators) are now working on A-10 Warthog simulator for us army. Thats' why public Black Shark has been postponed to year 2008. BTW this level of avionics has been introduced by Falcon 4.0 ;)

Well it may look cool like lomac was (without the "push every button" but it was more on the Falcon side than on the ace combat side ;) ).

But even with all those "cool stuff" the big issue(tm) with lomac is the lack of good campaign with great opponent ia who place their aa to trap you. While in lock on the air deffences are illy placed, radar on 24/7, or are "verry strong" to show you you are not supposed to go there.

Why does it surprise you that you can learn in 15 minutes or a bit more what buttons to push to start a helicopter? You don't need to know anything about aerodynamics and stuff to start up a plane, but of course just starting it up won't be very useful unless you know how to fly the thing, now that's where it can become more complicated and can take quite some time. And of course once you know how to start it up, after some practice it will probably take 5 min or less.

It takes 15 minutes to start it in normal conditions, if it is battle, do you REALLY think they will test the T.V. brightness? You can take off in one minute on it, less even if you are good.

It takes 15 minutes to start. In 3 it will be dead already. So clunky, vague, cryptic and obscure. There MUST be just 1 button to launch it and then do whatever adjustments you want. No wonder iraquis won't ever fly this thing.

90% of the start-up procedure seen in this video is pretty much identical for all modern combat aircraft (fixed or rotary wing). I applaud the developers of this simulation for including the whole start-up procedure. Hopefully complete functionality will also be available during the flight and combat.

WOW! that's why from what I have read, most Pilots & crew go thru start up at the END of the previous mission! then all the have to hit is the master switch, the ignightors, & go. I know a UH-1H can get into the air in about 60 seconds this way.

For normal "casual" people that just want to play quickly, in other words "arcade gamer" any simulators are too too complicated.

But for us hardcore simmers who want to play like it was the real thing, there is no "too complicated" game. More realistic it is, the more fun it is. And this is not very complicated yet, as its from beta. Try falcon 4 ramp start and ull see what is "complicated" with current standards :)
