Your left hand technique is way better than your right hand, you should work on the right hand, try to play with a lighter touch and less tension- takes a lot of practice, but real important for producing a good sound.
I thought you put a heck of a move on it. you DID say it was you TRYING to play it, and it's not bad at all, shows alot of talent and hard work. As an ex-rock musician starting Bach at 47, I say way to go. You're young enough that who knows where your style might end up? People seem so opinionated with their comments. I say, long live rock, long live Bach! Music wasn't put here for us to tell each other what has to come from our hearts. Go with YOUR heart. you'll be sincere, that way.
Metal is a broad genre with a great many worthy bands. I enjoy both metal music and Bach's compositions. Learning this fugue at the moment, as well as some metal songs ;)
Nice choice of composition...I will say though, that anyone caught up in any trivial human errors when listening to such a piece is snooty and loosing sight of the movements in the melody. The melody and harmonies are where "it is at", and you portrayed them well. I say, 'when you are comfortable with something, change what you are doing'...
I can imagine the Concentation, Discipline days, weeks, months, and maybe years You have dedicated to learn this piece = this is one of those ADVANCED PIECES and you have JOINED the Ranks of Christopher Parkening, Julian Bream and Alirio Diaz who i have listened to their 33 rpm LP Vinyl Disk i bought in the mid 1970's.. . You deserved a MASTER Class with Julian Bream .... BRAVO! Thanks for Inspiring the World...
You guys are on crack.. is it not possible to like both bach and metal? Clearly two different genres with two different compositional styles, no point in comparing them. Let them coexist.
Bravo dude!. I pretty much got the basics of guitar down, I can read sheet music, I know a couple of scales and some chords, but I'm just caught up in which direction of style I should head towards first, metal, classical, flamenco, jazz. I want to learn it all it's so overwhelming.
hymnistic must be an old fart because there is beauty even in the heaviest of metal.
and definitely extreme talent to keep on time and shit. i can't believe they dissed metal so hard as to say banging on pots and pans, pfff fuck that. drumming can be very intricate in metal. plus they say drumming helps to use certain parts of your brain that you dont normally use.
anyways great video man, im sure youre way better now.
Killer for 4 years...thats an epic piece...you know...you should definitely check out a recent Julian Bream video of a master class he was teaching in which he goes into great detail that very piece you are working on...I know you would dig...he especially elaborates on the ending...
fucking immense dude, 5 stars. its awesome to know that classical is appreciated by a metalhead, most dismiss it without realizing its in alot of modern day metal.
Wow this is so hard to play. It's a teacher's level. How did you play this from only learning for four years? I've been playing classical for 3 years now and I'm no where close to touching that piece. I've been learning Recuerdos but Bach is just too difficult.
I agree that I am quite sloppy on this video...I plan to give it another try sooner or later, it's been almost three years and I reconsider the folly I commited posting it as it is...
As for the band, I left 5 weeks ago and haven't listened to any metal since. Yet, I believe among the popular genres, it isn't the worst. There are actually bands that are worth listening (just to consider there is at least potential). Well, probably not my former band, though you're harsh I agree.
@Jurneyd How about your updated rendition? This is a piece worth polishing and you've got so much invested in it already. You go in my place, as I doubt I'll ever get to the level you were at. Carry on for us wannabes! Earl Ledden
@Jurneyd Play everything that turns you on. The more genres the better. I love some nasty Drum n Bass but this is also so incredible. Teleman, Gerald Finzi and above most is Bach. But also Nirvana, Metallica, Noisia, Technical Itch and GnR. There is quite a lot of crap I agree but in all genres there are masters and thats what I really love. With your knowledge of Bach on the guitar Im sure it would influence your Metal style uniquely.
@hymnistic if you have the 'refined' qualities of being able to enjoy music for what it is, maybe one day you can drop your prejudice and appreciate all types of music instead of blabbing your mouth about what kind of music is better. GTFO

Great job man. I can definately appreciate this performance, becing a student of classical guitar as well. With some more practice, you will play this even more beautifully.
i think the glissandi can be avoided but not completely, some glissandi makes real performance "real".. if you want a perfect performance you can use computer to play midi files perfectly lol =P
I'm planning to play this piece after Chaconne too, sounds very great
if you wanna help your technique, try and never bring your thumb over the neck and rather, rotate your entire left hand so there's always a gap between your left palm and the fretboard
First, because it is written =D. Then, you're right, I start and end on an A. You can also see there are some parts in C and parts in D minor which are close tones to A. Well, otherwise, some happy few can tell the key just by hearing the piece, but they are few :p
Hi. This is one of my favorites of ever. i'm play a different version in G minor. i'm search this version but can't found in any site. you have the score?

Congratulations on your achievement, this is a tough piece (I know as I'm currently trying to get it down). However, I think you sacrificed clarity, technique and musicality for the sake of speed.
