RIP Doug Fieger. My Sharona is the first Rock riff I ever learned on guitar, and inspired me to first play music with people. And every time I hear it, it's the Summer of '79 all over again (six weeks at #1). Ageless powerpop classic!
This is a band that really should have achieved better; brilliant guitarists. Great track. But it never carried them further. But it brought back brilliant memories from 1980 :)
My high school band plays this song Its kinda funny, All we basically do is play the drum riff and everyone goes crazy over it. It got to the point where we had teachers dancing to it, But anyway great song!
The reason this song works so well, is it's simplicity. The reason the guitar solo works so well, is that it's really melodic, but technically excellent as well.
Yes, it's simple, but checking all the covers that are posted here in youtube, I think that it´s very difficult to copy ... the coordination of this guys is incredible
Actually, speaking as a drummer, most of his playing is just show. If you're good, relaxed, know what you're going to do next, you can play with minimum effort. The new guy is no Bruce Gary.
Bruce Gary's drumming is absolutely fantastic. But the new guy is no one less than Pat Torpey from Mr. Big.......... Enough said, the guy is a monster too.
RIP Doug...this song will always be my favorite rock song and the guitar solo is one of the best ever!...

Looks like the three guitarists are the orignal members of the band. Judging from the solo, I'm thinking I'm right... Anyone help with this?

@Jammerkevin: Yep, looks very much like Prescott Niles on bass, Doug Fieger lead singer/guitar, and Burton Averee on guitar
