  • This is certainly a historic moment, ladies and gentlemen. This is Sammy exactly one year almost to the day before his death, and here he is embracing the people some said he tried not to associate with. Nonsense! Sammy Davis Jr. lived to show the world, using his talent, that he belonged---that we all belong.

  • very good interview...good to watch....thanks for posting!!!

  • that's amazing (i imagine) to be literally sitting in the studio w / history and legend

  • Talent pure talent.

  • Killer...just killer!

  • Sammy still had it!

  • That's crazy, when Sammy was telling Arsenio all his plans for coming back in the future, Arsenio was looking at him like he knew it wasn't going to happen. =( r.i.p. Sammy!

  • @ShayeLa53 Sammy was not diagnosed with cancer until September of that year.

  • Legend. Plain and simple.

  • i knew some dumass would thumb down these videos dont watch the channels surf some where else and continue your ignorance alone at home in your basement idiot life is beautiful without hatred and racism.

  • What year was this?

  • @timothyissohot It was around this time in May of 1989.

  • @JoeWellington Actually, this episode is from June 24, 1989. It was less than a year before Davis died.

  • @JoeWellington too bad he died the next year

  • Pound for pound, it doesn't get any better than Sammy. He was a REAL class-act and a TRUE entertainer. I miss him.

    SAMMY DAVIS, JR. (1925-1990)

  • 2:36 look at that JC Penney catalog pose Mr. Cool struck there... what a hack.

Sammy... my god, the coolest cat of the cats cats man...and I mean that!

Sammy was funnier than Arsenio on this!

The band leader dude freaked, you can tell he was out of his league and playing really, really cautious, the drummer and bassist had it in the pocket though.

Sammys stories about racism are essentially about others sabotaging you because they dont have what you have. Creatives always struggle w/that.

  • Love this interview we can't get Sammy back But lets see if Oprah network will bring back Arsenio .......R. I . P .

  • @TheJudy2004 If Arsenio wants to do it. After the way Hollywood played him, he told them to kiss my ass. So I think the only way Arsenio would do it again would be under his own terms.

  • I love Sammy! Rest. In paradise mr bojangles. This video moved me, we miss U Sammy

  • I think that Sammy is one of the only people that offers to sing rather than today's hosts may have to ask the artists if they would like to sing a song! R.I.P. =)

  • Wow. What a man. What a great, great soul. Thank you for sharing this, Joe Wellington. Thank you Sammy.

  • This makes me smile so much.

  • this kat is kool

  • ♫ HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY ♫ - Sammy Davis Jr

    Would be 85 today - 8th Dec 2010!

    We miss you Sammy! ♡

  • So talented, so gracious, so polite, so moving - they don't make 'em like this anymore. A true show biz legend RIP.

  • How's Arsenio? For a minute there look like he wasn't sure when Sammy asked to do a number! Shit- - You Dealing With Sammy Davis Jr. Man!

  • I've been on youtube a long time now. Every once in a while I'll come across something that just "does" it for me. Watching this 3 part video of Sammy on Arsenio did just that.

  • WOW Sammy is Butter! I miss him.

  • OMG, this man is a CLASS ACT! RIP Sammy Davis Jr. LOVE this entire appearance!

  • Thanks for posting this Joe!

  • an amazing human being he was he will b remembered 4ever jus finesse n soul a tru legend

  • I just feel blessed to have lived in the era of Sammy Davis Jr. What a blessing he was to this planet. What joy he brought to millions during his time on earth when it wasn't easy to do so. He pushed through and got it done.

  • well he was wrong about arsenio being there a long time lmao

  • Name one person in todays main stream media than can pull this off, I know for certain there are Cats out there that can sing like this with the same charisma and class, unfortunately, listeners like the fakes of today.....

  • ughh why did he have2 smoke :(

  • Hey [Joe], Gosh this just get better and better!!

  • I Love Sammy

  • Sammy was one of a kind a golden soul of a man. It's so sad though. He was 63 here and he died at 64. He had to have known he had cancer at the time he did this appearance but he would not let it slow him down at all. Love you Sammy...

  • @ShitFromShinolla he wasnt sick here in this interview he found out a few months later

  • What a great guy. I love Sammy!

  • Wow way to go Sammy ,what a nice man you were, love you

  • That was straight up old school cool by Sammy Davis Jr.

  • LoL @ 2:37 where Arsenio is standing up there hoping he finishes the song before the commercial break.

  • Sammy Davis Jr! words can never express how i and the millions of fans of his feel about him. he is a really great lengendary man. really one of a kind.

  • that was hot!

  • Its incredible what this man has seen in his live, at the beginning he was treaded like a slave, but he never gave up, and at the end he was a real star, and he's one of the guys that have some REAL talent! its very sad to see how humanity supresses ppl just cuz of their collor of skin...

    His voice is amazing

  • The very definition of a class act, the likes of which we'll never see again.

RIP Mr. Davis. The world is richer for having had you in it.

  • Wow, What a treat....something so special....the musical trio.....so good real pros with Sammy.....he is gone but the memory lingers....on so good....Best you Sammy always loved you style....

  • What a class act.... something entertainers today are lacking!!! or just flat out don't have.

  • What ever happened to Arsenio? He just faded away... Sammy kept on truckin' even after all the sauce and drugs--it was great to see him perform.

  • What a talent!

  • Did you hear what he said at the 5:53 mark, that was heavy. He is his brother keeper. That was some heavy jewels he said to Arsenio.

  • You're right, I don't think Aresenio was expecting that. A really cool moment.

  • Too bad Sammy wasn't right about being on the air for a long time. Arsenio should of been on longer dame Paramount.

  • Such class, talent and generosity; almost impossible to find today. Love and miss Sammy and Dean Martin so much.

  • The Master

  • Sammy Davis Jr. was and is the pinnacle to strive for in entertainment. The man could sing, dance, act, play instruments and do uncanny impressions, plus; he had a crazy gunslinging act where he could twirl the guns on both hands and shoot targets--the man just had crazy talent--I miss guys like this!! Sammy Davis Jr. "Original Ratpack Member!!"

  • This was fantastic! I have such a huge admiration for the great man and artist Sammy Davis Jr was...

  • A true Legend!!!!!!! Your art will live forever.

  • think about what it would be like if "The greatest ever" wanted to do a improv with you just on the spot. high-light of a life

  • You just do not see truly spontaneous moments like this on television anymore. What a class act. I miss Arsenio too!

  • Never knew this happened. Wow, just wow.

  • @jxpxjx

at first i was gonna come at you for your comment but upon reading it fully i understand what your saying, i still love Sammy and recognize his talent, crazy times mangle the soul but im glad i read your comment and saw your vid about the music industry. peace

  • now thats a freaking segment we laughed we cried we even sang a song together

  • WOW !

The King of Kings, most talented, most kind, ever polite. The guy suffered the worst racisim, still went in the service for his country, at a time when his country did nothing for him. There he is at 62, not full of hate. Hate breeds Hate.

only Love Kills Hate, right Sam ?

Damn, they sure don't have guys like this anymore.

Sammy ! we need you Buddy, Thanks Man.

  • @bongoboy2

    well said

  • I'm in my early 30s, but in my teen years the only reason I ever watched The Jerry Lewis Telethon was to see Sammy solo and with Jerry. The Telethon has not been the same since his death in 1990. He was only in his 60s at the time, and so could have still been alive today if he had received the proper medical care at the time.

  • When you are a child of God he never leaves you nor forsakes you. I believe that SAMMY did experiment with his sexuality, he mentions it in the book. He talks about the orygies and having sex any way you want it. People are sometimes foolish and they are punished accordingly. I believe SAMMY learned from his mistakes(the Manson murders and drug overdoses of his friends, eyeopeners)Pray In his later years he came into the person that God wanted him to be. God Bless You Baby! Rest In Peace SAMMY~

  • Damn what a class act. Sammy you left us too soon. Thank God for video and recordings that will keep you alive forever.

  • this interview was only about a year before Sam died. Prophetic words indeed.

  • ohh so this is form 89

  • I was a boy when I first saw this and loved it like you wouldn't believe. When I was in High School I had this on video and played this episode out. I used "Time after Time" as my all-state audition.

  • great song

  • Sammy was truly the entertainer's entertainer. When the big stars of the era wanted a good show, they called upon Sammy. Period. The man could do it all and is sadly missed to this day.

  • Great clip. Sam was one of the greatest stars

to ever grace any stage. He was truly one of a

    kind.

  • Sam's the man

  • I was lucky enough to see Sammy with Frank and Liza in Sydney and it still stands as the best concert I have or will ever see in my life. Frank was awesome, Liza was fantastic, but Sammy was mind blowing. He truly is the best there ever was.

  • Great video, wonderful sketch

  • It's amazing the reaction Sam gets. Most of Arsenio's audience had be fairly young, and for someone of an older generation like Sam to generate that sort of response shows what a gift he really had.

  • Well said......I wish I had the priviledge to see this man before he died.

  • Same here. He died a year before I was born. What bad timing on both mine and his part.

Still I can see the vids of him and still appreciate his incredible talent.

  • @MyKindOfBlueEyes and how greatly loved he was...So great, and still such a sweet person.Am glad my folks are old so that i had the chance to grow up with great men like Sam.

  • Excellent

    Thanks for the great post

  • Sammy was A Real Class Act!

  • Magnificent!!!!! I honestly got a little watery-eyed after that!!!! RIP Sammy, I know you are jammin' in heaven. :)

  • WARMS THE HEART!!!!
