John always had incredibly BAD taste in women, except for the beautiful/intelligent Renee and his very funny/crazy current wife Gela. I must say though that Amanda made a perfect transition from slut to interesting character in recent years. Maybe he saw that little something in her way before everyone else. If he hadn't been taking all those drugs, he may have been able to commit to Renee back in the day, but it was not to be. And he knows he fucked that one up.
