serious question here. why did you originally paint the background purple? did you do it because you dident want you eyes tricked by the natural white background of canvas or better see the contrast from the subjects facial tones to his clothing?

I would assume at least a few days, because oil paint takes a long time to dry, and you have to wait to do the next part.
