Please. Your priority in a situation like that is your life. You can get stitches after the incident. You can't revive your life. He never said that you'll come out of that situation untouched. I'd much rather need stitches on my hand than being in dire need for head treatment.

@Holysam1337 you're not taking into account the speed, etc. And although it's not on this video, a lot of the bursting techniques emphasise attacking the throat rather than the face, plus in classes you tend to throw in multiple fast groin kicks to stun the attacker. It's never going to be perfect in a real life scenario, you might get lucky and the attacker might drop with one punch, but you can't take that chance. I think this is more a brief demo than a perfect guide.

My instructor always said if someone pulls a knife on you be prepared to get cut so if and when it happens you are mentally prepared and can continue to defend and attack and end the situation and them.
i think the hardest part for me in this technique is the initial blocking. you have to be extremely alert when the attacker comes down with the knife. if your timing is off, you're fucked. if you block incorrectly you could slash an artery in your forearm.

Poorly thought out technique...showing this static is not realistic...reality is chaos and it is very unlikely one could employe this in a live situation. As a general rule most imoportant thing is to control the attackers weapon with both hands, not one hand while you strike with another. His natural reaction is to pull away violently and free the knife and in reality few are fast enough under stress to accomplish these moves.
IF YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO, at best your only hope is double wrist control, pin that hand to the ground, and either get the knife out of his hand or wait for help.
Krav Maga fighters are one of the most dangerous opponents you could face in the streets. Not because of their skill, but because of their attitude. What do all Krav Maga fighters have in common? They're very stupid and extremely aggressive. Very unbalanced personalities. They have to be dealt with the caution you would deal with a rabid dog. It's always them who start to fights.
while blocking that downwards attack, you could bring your other hand up and hit him straight on to the neck hard, dont try it though, it can be lethal.
Actually the grip the man is using is icepicker grip or reverse grip. This grip has the advantage of control and protection to the wrists, since the blade follows the movement of the wrists. Thats why this guy didn't do any wrist locks.
Which one is better: You block yourself, kick his ass and you get a stab to your hand or he stabs you in the face? There will always be injury but what matters is that you're still alive.

@huyandseif Not yet. The guy would just go after you and hunt you down and what if there's no place to run? What you need to do is block his first strike with your arm if he slashes and palm if he stabs and then counter attack with a swift blow to the neck or eyes or a kick to the balls. Then you run. He won't be able to go after you for 10 secs at least and thats probably enough.
Notice how in 1:21 the knife is so close to his wrist. The attacker can slice open the defenders wrist that way leaving him to bleed to death. This is why foot work is most important.
Paul Vunak has some good points. he made sense when he said the person can pull back their knife and cut you, but if you punch him in the face hes not like ly to do that. Plus, his whole deal assumed you have a knife too. This guy doesn't. The honest reality is, the easiest knife defense is to control your assailant's knife hand, and strike with anything else you can.
This is entry level knife defense in krav maga. It is for use against people who don't know how to knife fight. An experienced knife fighter is not going to stab at you, he will slash and cut. Their are techniques for that to. I love how some of you are trying to break down kravs entire knife philosophy based on one technique, and an entry level one at that lol.

IF you encounter a person with a knife and you have no weapon, you should find a crude weapon or run. That's right...run away! If you have little chance of escape then you must gain control of his knife hand with BOTH of your hands and attacking using headbutt or leg strikes. Bottom line - DO NOT BLOCK A KNIFE ATTACK - DODGE AND INJURE/CONTROL THE KNIFE HAND.
You can't defend against a knife like you do against a punch. a knife can do huge damage with very little force, so you don't have to put your body into it. a knife strike doesn't have to be that well defined and , unlike a punch or kick , it can also target the limbs with minimal force.
In Krav Maga this is called a "burst" or "Bursting" over all its a pretty good defense. I have however seen this this move defeated by this type of knife attack when the person feeding the knife quickly retracts the blade back the defenders forearm is severed. I have also seen the person feeding the knife change their line of attack at the last second and cut the defender. I like Krav and Kappap, but I have to say I love Paul Vunak's stuff the best... my personal opinion though Its all good!
What would happened if he person let go of the knife when you block the attack?...............OOOOPS directly to your face............Dagger (double edge knife).............OOOOPS It will cut your forearm............

Put him in a back ally head to head with a drug addict. He'll get sliced up. Chances are though they'll stab him from behind or while they walk by. All it takes is one half inch cut to his forarm to slice and artery and send him into shock.

Actually the grip the man is using is icepicker grip or reverse grip. This grip has the advantage of control and protection to the wrists, since the blade follows the movement of the wrists. Thats why this guy didn't do any wrist locks.

@huyandseif Not yet. The guy would just go after you and hunt you down and what if there's no place to run? What you need to do is block his first strike with your arm if he slashes and palm if he stabs and then counter attack with a swift blow to the neck or eyes or a kick to the balls. Then you run. He won't be able to go after you for 10 secs at least and thats probably enough.

Notice how in 1:21 the knife is so close to his wrist. The attacker can slice open the defenders wrist that way leaving him to bleed to death. This is why foot work is most important.

Paul Vunak has some good points. he made sense when he said the person can pull back their knife and cut you, but if you punch him in the face hes not like ly to do that. Plus, his whole deal assumed you have a knife too. This guy doesn't. The honest reality is, the easiest knife defense is to control your assailant's knife hand, and strike with anything else you can.

This is entry level knife defense in krav maga. It is for use against people who don't know how to knife fight. An experienced knife fighter is not going to stab at you, he will slash and cut. Their are techniques for that to. I love how some of you are trying to break down kravs entire knife philosophy based on one technique, and an entry level one at that lol.

@OpyPSL The inexperienced knife fighter will also slash and jab the knife. Blocking a knife is NOT the best defense. IF you encounter a person with a knife and you have no weapon, you should find a crude weapon or run. That's right...run away! If you have little chance of escape then you must gain control of his knife hand with BOTH of your hands and attacking using headbutt or leg strikes. Bottom line - DO NOT BLOCK A KNIFE ATTACK - DODGE AND INJURE/CONTROL THE KNIFE HAND.

You can't defend against a knife like you do against a punch. a knife can do huge damage with very little force, so you don't have to put your body into it. a knife strike doesn't have to be that well defined and , unlike a punch or kick , it can also target the limbs with minimal force.

In Krav Maga this is called a "burst" or "Bursting" over all its a pretty good defense. I have however seen this this move defeated by this type of knife attack when the person feeding the knife quickly retracts the blade back the defenders forearm is severed. I have also seen the person feeding the knife change their line of attack at the last second and cut the defender. I like Krav and Kappap, but I have to say I love Paul Vunak's stuff the best... my personal opinion though Its all good!

I would like to add: if u see the knife, RUN if u can. Never engage a wepon unless u have to.

@ZeaMoore4 Amen to that. The first principle of ANY self-defence course is to use your brain first, and stay out of trouble if you possibly can. Simple stuff, like keeping to well-lit and populated areas, or just being aware of potential assailants to avoid them, is really important. Stuff like this doesn't make you a badass; it just gives you a slightly better chance of survival if all else fails.

@hck112 If you are so close the the knife that you are unable to look around you and find a way or if you are in a one way ally, that is a whole diffirent ballgame. Yhats why i said: " IF you see a knife and IF you CAN run away, do so. Only engage a weapon if you HAVE TO". The technique is as close to flawless as it gets.

That technique is shit. If he just slides down and pulls back the knife he can get a deep cut on an artery and have the guy go into shock in about three seconds. Then he can take his wallet.

Put him in a back ally head to head with a drug addict. He'll get sliced up. Chances are though they'll stab him from behind or while they walk by. All it takes is one half inch cut to his forarm to slice and artery and send him into shock.
