Great example of the triangle offense. The first triangle (Kobe, Fox, Shaq) spin and collapse into the paint, but Horry and Fisher wait outside, forming a new triangle, where they can either hope for an open pass from the paint for a presumably open jumper or wait for a long rebound and last second heave.
i love how all the laker fans say vlade was stupid for doing that, that was actually the smart and onlything to do in that situation, since he wasnt in postition to get the board, he swatted it out to mid court, or tryed to assuming that it would drain time and that most people were under the rim trying to get the offenseive rebound, so stop hating on vlade cus he did the smart thing
Kobe missed the tying shot. Shaq missed the tying shot. Horry won it at the buzzer. The sports gods give us strange results. This is one of the best.
I definitely remember that shot! I went so absolutely nuts when it went in, my neighbors told me to calm down and be quiet! Big Shot Bob does it again! LOL
KINGS WINNING THIS GAME MIGHT NOT HAVE MATTERED. STERN WANTED THIS SERIES TO BE IN 7. IF KINGS WON THIS GAME, THEN THE REFS WOULD HAD BEEN ON LAKERS' SIDE FOR GAMES 5 AND 6, SINCE THERE WERE BAD DECISIONS DURING GAME 5 TOO AND KINGS WON GAME 5. BETTER BEING UP 3-2 AND LOSE, THEN BEING UP 3-1 AND LOSE.
just like the lakers wasting a 24-pt lead and losing in game 4 against the celtics in the 2008 finals, the kings actually did the same in THIS game and lost by 1 to Horry's buzzer beater.
I still love how Kings fans claim that shot was luck. They forget Horry had made two clutch 3's in the same quarter a few minutes prior, they also forget (most of them dont know) who Horry was and what he did for Houston and LA in the past. Ah, ignorant Kings fans, bless them.
@RyZombie619 The shot wasn't luck at all. The fact that he ended up with the ball was luck... and the fact that the Lakers had three extra points from Samaki Walker's 0.5 second late half-court shot at halftime gave it to them.
@RyZombie619 Hey... when the refs are scoring points for a particular team, that team has an advantage they wouldn't have in a fair game. It's really that simple. Samaki's shot directly resulted in a change to NBA rules (half-time reviews) for that reason. If it were meaningless, the rules wouldn't have changed.
@chubstheclown oh shut up. you need to grow up and realize one foul, one shot, one FT doesnt make a game, especially if it happens before halftime. if it happened at the last second of the 4th quarter, ok, thats an issue and wouldve cost the team the game, but it happened when they had two full quarters to play left, if you cant play two full quarters and win the game, its your own fault.
Wasn't just the shot, this is one of the greatest comebacks in playoff history (you saw the chart), down 24 points and they couldn't get the rebound on the last play. Kings and their fans have nobody to blame but themselves.
Fun fact: You're best player Chris Webber took 0 shots in the last 2 mins of this game, pathetic.
its funny cuz i wuz thinkin the same exact thing amareto35. The lakers have some of the quietest fans in the nba. i remember in 200 when kobe threw the alley to shaq against the blazers after they came back...the place was going crazy.
An insider tells me that Vlade was wearing Laker jock straps through the whole series...so it's suspected that Vlade intentionally missed a free throw and passed to Horry for the three.
the kings should have won this game, they had really good players like bibby, jackson, divac, peja, and so on... this game was played infairly. by rights kings should have won it all.
I was cleaning my tv and stop to watch the last seconds of the game, omg that was an awsone moment to watch live and sense i'm a Laker fan double the points.

I remember when i was a little kid sitting on my couch watchin this game and im a die hard laker fan. When horry hit that shot i lost my damn mind LOL
dude that was complete luck that Horry even got a chance to take that shot but damn was that guy clutch, there's a reason he was a 7x NBA champ and it wasn't just because he passenger on those runs.
In all phases this game had everything you could hope for like you couldn't script a game any better than this, this game had it all. God you really got to give it to NBC Sports they just had a flare for the dramatics. Great commentators Marv Albert "The Greatest play by play commentator ever", I love Steve 'Snapper" Jones voice and how him and Bill Walton always had little remarks for each other but my favorite commentator is former Bulls Coach Doug Collins just simply the best at what he does
man, i miss the old days when the words of the announcers were nowhere near as important as the crowd pop. If this shot (2:12) were to happen again today, you would not hear the crowd even close to this level of volume because of the stupid TV limitations.
@mdunlop1978 It sure seems like it now. But back then, the Kings responded great, Mike Bibby hit the game winner in the very next game. Unfortunately the Kings choked away games 6 and 7 by missing half of their FT's. Pathetic.
@mdunlop1978 u so are so right. Just imagine if the kings won that game. U know their bench is crazy. if they had won ( all of them would have ran into the locker nuts)
I watched this entire game on ESPN classic yesterday though I didn't get to rewatch the finish because I met up with a girl...like many others I still remember exactly where I was. Kings bench got WAYYYYY too happy in the first half. They thought they already had it won. That whole two week stretch was just flat out awesome. When I rewatched this game it made me really want to rewatch the Dallas/Kings series as well...miss those days back in high school..
People forget the 3 pointer Samaki Walker hit from just over half court at the buzzer of the first half. It was only the second three pointer of his career, and his first three point attempt of the 2001-02 season. The mini run LA made in the final couple minutes of the first half really helped give them a chance to come all the way back...also, that makes me sad to watch that promo with Pierce Toine and Waltah goin for the trophy...loved that Celtics team..
The shot shouldn't of counted though but still I got to give to the Lakers in Game 4, they just never gave up. In the end the Sacramento Kings just simply collapsed in the 4 Quarter they couldn't even inbound the ball, woe is my Sacramento Kings. Three straight game seven series and just 9 wins and 12 losses, dynasty potential but just always came up a little short.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
that's some bullshit show the replay of the shot at the end of the game but not the one at the end of the half witch shouldn't have counted by walker if they played by the rules and not by cheatin final score of the game would be Sac 99 - LAL 97 Kings lead the series 3-1 fuck tht got damn fakers and the NBA !!!!!!!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
dude dude calm down. Everybody knows that Sacramento really won this series. Lakers fans just dont want to admit it. I feel the same way you do. This happened seven years ago
hahaha...listen: sacramento had GAME 7 at HOME, and they buckled under the pressure in Overtime and the Lakers stayed composed and won. If sacramento was indeed better, they would have won at home, but they didn't.
i doubt the final score would be 99-97 if he didnt make that shot, maybe the lakers would shoot more 3s during the game or get more stops and would still win, not everything would go the same.
It truly was a great game, an all-time classic. Tough for me though, to watch this game as well as for all Kings fans but nevertheless a spectacle of a game all the way throughout. How do you blow a 23 point lead Sacramento! We had it.
It takes a lot of guts to make a shot with less than a second under extreme pressure. Webber was just a little to late in defending that shot because it looked like he could have blocked that
Easy to say now, but the real mistake the Kings made was not fouling shaq when he got the ball right there at the end. Make him hit shots, then you get a chance to shoot for the win, not Big Shot Bob. Plus, the Samaki Walker shot will always be in the discussion when you hear about this game, but still, the Kings blew their lead with poor offense as opposed to what they were doing at the beginning
So true, coaches never play the foul game. If Divac fouls Shaq right there he forces a career 528% FT shooter to make 2 of 2 which even if he does the kings still only need a two to win and have 7 seconds to do so. Also not to take anything away from Horry but that truly is one of the most fortunate plays of all time. Kobe shoots the ball with 4.5 seconds left, Shaq tries for the putback then it bounces right to him with just enough time to get the shot off.
if only the refs had given continuation to divac as he drove in for the layup. And if only divac had made both his free throws. Alas knowing what could have been hurts. I'll give credit to the Lakers for showing poise and displaying composure down the stretch of these games
I know right? How is it a rivalry if one team wins all the time? Lakers vs. Celtics: now that's was a rivalry. They went back and forth in championship series.
Robert Horry is such a badass.

hahaha...listen: sacramento had GAME 7 at HOME, and they buckled under the pressure in Overtime and the Lakers stayed composed and won. If sacramento was indeed better, they would have won at home, but they didn't.
RudeMood19 2 years ago 6
i doubt the final score would be 99-97 if he didnt make that shot, maybe the lakers would shoot more 3s during the game or get more stops and would still win, not everything would go the same.

7:27 that's why they invented instant replays.

It truly was a great game, an all-time classic. Tough for me though, to watch this game as well as for all Kings fans but nevertheless a spectacle of a game all the way throughout. How do you blow a 23 point lead Sacramento! We had it.

I know thats rare, he's always so calm
jessearellano1987 2 years ago
It takes a lot of guts to make a shot with less than a second under extreme pressure. Webber was just a little to late in defending that shot because it looked like he could have blocked that
toofresh91 2 years ago 3
6:13 Kobe was already celebrating before Horry's shot went in...

Easy to say now, but the real mistake the Kings made was not fouling shaq when he got the ball right there at the end. Make him hit shots, then you get a chance to shoot for the win, not Big Shot Bob. Plus, the Samaki Walker shot will always be in the discussion when you hear about this game, but still, the Kings blew their lead with poor offense as opposed to what they were doing at the beginning
kg21mack 2 years ago

This is why the league needs rivalries to emerge again, for games and series like these.
thriller92 2 years ago 3
What rivalry? Sacramento got spanked three years in a row.
whitesprite 2 years ago
I know right? How is it a rivalry if one team wins all the time? Lakers vs. Celtics: now that's was a rivalry. They went back and forth in championship series.
TheRatedIX7 2 years ago 2

It doesn't get this loud or exciting in Staples Center anymore...
Knightmare2k6 2 years ago 20
it will now that LA is the champ. expect greatness
amitv87 2 years ago 2
@Knightmare2k6
The only time Staples gets loud is if Kobe Bryant or any Laker hits the game winning shot.
joesakic91 1 year ago
@joesakic91 Haha right. Did you even watch Game 6 or 7 of the Finals this year? They get loud when the stakes are high.
FuddleDuddle24 1 year ago
@FuddleDuddle24
Fair enough. I just like the bright lights during the early years at Staples than the current Forum look.
But Game 6 and Game 7 were loud.

@Knightmare2k6 i totaaly agree.. they need to move the celebrities from the from seats..
