love this beautiful song...this songs is totally different from anything that John has ever done., the soft side of his brain...calm, cool, loving someone who may not know you or just have seen you in passing...love the melodic melody,
this song just gives me the chills every time i listen to it*o* the whole album does, seems so intimate and vulnerable; and somehow i can almost see him singing and playing it in my head=]
I was thinking the same thing there's a song that sounds almost identical to the guitar rift at the beginning...please post if you figure it out it's driving me crazy
@mikefigomike I know what you mean. It makes me escape THE world. Most of John mayer's songs do. I also like how he sings about how imperfect this world is.
D-G chord progressions? Wish I knew something about guitar. I like the old Spanish guitar sound in one part of it. Makes me think of another time and place. It has a wonderful, dreamy, lyrical,l water-color feel that I could easily get lost in. No doubt about it, this man was born with this gift and talent to offer the world.
@jesse - for hundreds of years I-V progressions have been everywhere. Because of the natural tunings of guitars etc etc that have developed, it has just become the 2 chord turnaround that is everywhere. I could name 30+ songs that I know alone that are D-G. Probably alot of songs I listen to I dont realise they are also just D-G.
Thats music. The chords are the guy-ropes for emotion, taking you on the musical path. But rhythm, lyric etc provide the adventure.
this song is beautiful!! i t makes me think of my BF,,,,and we cuddle up together. :)

Ive problem herd this song 300 times and even though it has far fewer words then others the melody and the few words it does have speak volumes...

This is a Pentatonic Scale, reminiscent of Asian and far eastern music, because Asian compositions are largely written on Pentatonic Scales.

This sounds like Immortal " One by One "...

The verses reminds me of "Enemy" by Jack Johnson.

this sounds eerily similar to something i've heard by teitur (who john mayer has personally endorsed) -- but i can't remember which song...

makes me think of the tune you hear when you're on the island at the beginning of Final Fantasy X.
I'd love to swim to that song
