There's just no feelings in her voice and his guitar playing. It's too fast and she sounds like a robot, and they should absolutely sing in harmonies.
Fantastic rendition! Emily has such beautiful intonation, coupled with some great guitar work. Bob Dylan reminds me of Mozart in the way he captures a sentiment perfectly in musical form. This song speaks on so many levels and with such unprepossessing power. Such genius!
This is one of the first songs I learned to play on the guitar. I love how Emily and Jimmy do this version (I absolutely loathed the Frankie Vallie version with the falsetto).
Good job, Metric. A tribute to the Great White North.
For all the ignorants out there: Putting your own spin on a song is what for example Alanis Morrisette did years before to the Black Eyed Peas' song or what Ozzy Osbourne did with the In My Life of The Beatles. What Metric did here is just plain fucking up the rhythm part of a legendary song which naturally would get anybody with a trained ear mad. It's a shame that these people even have a record deal to be honest. All in all,it's good at least that she put out some legs to keep people interested.
Awesome cover, and she made it her own; the man himself, i assure, would like this. Whomever said she messed up the first two lines- nope, and this is coming from a born and raised dylan fan.
Geeeez, what's with all the Know-it-alls? People this and every song can be done so many different ways it isn't funny, it's fantastic! Only 7 chords and you can have a multitude of sounds. I think it would be a pretty sad and boring world without all the diversity. I heard the Dixie Chicks to a James Taylor song, Copper line (maybe one word) it didn't sound like the way James does it but it was SWEEEEEEEEEEET... If you don't like it, don't listen and stop the hate!
@kino9797 totally.... in the part where it goes "you're the reason I've been travelin' on" it should change chords every half a bar. He just holds the chord.
Es cualquiera que tengan el papelito ahí abajo, las canciones de dylan se tocan con el corazón... (dylan's songs are played by heart, not with a paper between your legs!) o algo así jaja
What's wrong with everyone? It's a good cover. As for saying their playing incorrectly, Bob Dylan would probably laugh in your face himself. He's probably changed the chords to this song more times than he can remember in live performances, he rarely plays a song the same way twice, who's to say anyone covering the song has to play it exactly like the original? No one that's who, songs belong to everyone despite what records companies tell you.
i dont know if he was re-harming or didn't know the chords. but i'd say the experiment was unsuccessful. I to I dom7 with the "rooster crows" part makes it and this sounded wishy washy and boring
everyone needs to calm down. it looks like they just printed out the chord progression online and and just busted this cover out without any practice. I enjoyed it. also i love bob dylan and i think he would be just fine with this cover.
@The1armscissor Most people don't understand the concept of a cover. I mean, every cover is supposed to sound EXACTLY like the original, right? Right? It would be just CRAZY if another musician put their own spin on a song they like from another artist that they respect.
@The1armscissor i agree people are too critical. but its all to cover up thier weaknesses. they want to be viewed as right or more important or something. because they focus on the wrong things in life they have little tallent. or its undiscoverd. so they are jealous and point out when people are wrong whenever they can. its kind of sad. everyone should smile and we all have a good time.

I think she has a nice voice, but her covers (like the Elliott Smith one) don't have the same emotion as the originals...like she's singing the words but I get the sense she has no idea what she's singing about
MoeFuggin - perhaps, but this version sounds like complete crap and one of the culprits is the lack of a capo. Of course, the fact that the dude is a bland guitar player and a terrible singer doesn't help matters either.
@jerkamiah666 Ummm... no. Her voice is boring and sterile. There's no personality to it. Simpletons like yourself are incapable of appreciating Dylan's voice, but he is probably the greatest male vocalist in rock music history. Mike Ness is a second-rate washed-up punk rocker.

idk why but this video has gotten me very pissed off...i mean seriously i'm irate. First of all you don't cover a Dylan song like this unless you nailed it. Her voice just pisses me off...not so much the guy but she just fucking pissed me off...is all of her stuff like this???? and btw this is imo so don't fucking crucify me.
@pcmorris1000 Are you kidding? Her voice is amazing.. She loves the song so she did a cover.. This is Youtube.. There are millions of cover songs. And as for doing a song cover and not "nailing it" ..... Come on. It's not like Bob Dylan has an amazing voice to try and cover. Rattled about your comment.
Interesting cover and he definitely took some artistic license with the chords, etc. I really like the way their voices fit each other and Emily's smile at the end is to die for. If you've never heard Metric before try "Combat Baby" and "Twilight Galaxy." Great group.

How come the original isn't on YouTube? It's actually called. Don't Think Twice, It's All Right.

@FreeJibril my thoughts exactly

The guitar is spot on. But I feel like she really lost the whole vibe and feel that makes this song so great.

actually she sings it pretty good. I like how she doesn't make it too sugar-coated and melodic like most gals would do, it sound natural

I agree with pcmorris. Also, just became aware of My Chemical Romance's cover of the excellent Desolation Row. Truly horrifying.

idk why but this video has gotten me very pissed off...i mean seriously i'm irate. First of all you don't cover a Dylan song like this unless you nailed it. Her voice just pisses me off...not so much the guy but she just fucking pissed me off...is all of her stuff like this???? and btw this is imo so don't fucking crucify me.

@pcmorris1000 same her voice is bugging me...
xoxonceuponatimexox 1 year ago
@pcmorris1000 Are you kidding? Her voice is amazing.. She loves the song so she did a cover.. This is Youtube.. There are millions of cover songs. And as for doing a song cover and not "nailing it" ..... Come on. It's not like Bob Dylan has an amazing voice to try and cover. Rattled about your comment.

This is great and these last few days I've been Emily Hainesing and Metricing all the time. It is really helping with the tediusness of the move.
I also really liked Nick Drake's cover of this song too. I don't know if you guys have all heard that one.

Emily Haines is amasing! Great taste in music and a voice that can almost trump her looks.....but not quite.

i like metric and this song but i kinda would expect more
frenchy3414 1 year ago
Interesting cover and he definitely took some artistic license with the chords, etc. I really like the way their voices fit each other and Emily's smile at the end is to die for. If you've never heard Metric before try "Combat Baby" and "Twilight Galaxy." Great group.
