Straight Pool. It was the game of champions for a long time until they decided to switch to 9 ball in the late 70s to make it more appealing for TV. There is a lot less luck in the game, unlike 9 ball.
Mosconi was the king of the game in the 40s and early 50s. Once ran 526 in an exhibition. Few know that he ran more than that in practice where he ran in the 580s with witnesses.
I apologize for this silly question, but what is the name of this form of pool where you can just shoot any ball? I've seen it on a computer game, but never seen it in real life.
A cooler way to run this would be in real time, but showing only the actual strike of the cue to the point the ball stops moving...and repeat. It would probably be nearly as fast, and you'd actually be able to see "pool" being played.
@GetMeThere1 - I don't know what you mean by "cooler", but the shots themselves are not the important part. It's the choice of balls and positioning that matters. This way you get more time between shots to look at the table, and see why he's choosing the balls that he's choosing.
@omnigut1 : Perhaps you don't understand what I mean. In the way I suggest you see everything about choice of balls and positioning. What you DON'T see is a lot of walking around the table. And what you WOULD get better is an appreciation for cue speed. As far as looking at the table between shots--you could always pause and look the table over as much as you please. Ultimately, it doesn't matter--the video is too blurry to really be able to learn anything, unfortunately.
@GetMeThere1 : Yeah, you're right, it's almost too blurry to watch. And when I watched the vid in real time it was basically too messed up to appreciate the shots. It's one bad thing or another. Thanks for the tips, though
HELLO! MY NAMES JESSYROWLES and i was just wondering if when you have time you could take a look at my channel. Im trying to get more subscribers and make more friends to have a bigger idea of what people like. Thanks and good luck to you. also if you have any ideas for a video just email me the idea no matter what kind of story it is and ill try to make it. see ya! just click on my name and itll bring you to my channel.
Watch the movie The Hustler if you are not familiar with straight pool...It's a man's game. A real thing of beauty when played at this level.... thanks for the vid....
Yeah: every ball is worth one point, you can go for any one, and when there's only one ball left on the table, you rack up the other ones and try to break them open when you pocket the final ball. There's not much more to it than that.
You win when you've pocketed a previously determined number of balls. In this case, I'm assuming they're playing to 150 balls.
So, in each rack you're only pocketing 14 balls (the 15th ball is left as it lies on the table). The skill is getting good position on the 15th ball, so that your next shot can send you into the pack. That's why the game is sometimes called 14.1.
14 balls per rack means 141 points is 14 racks, plus one more ball. He probably only needed another 9 to win this game. :)
The guy singing is John Lee Hooker, but I don't know the name of the song :)
Nice video indeed, although it would have been nice to watch the run being played at normal speed with the proper audio, but perhaps another time and this video still gets top rating from me :)
Would have been way cooler if this run on speed is shown entirely in the overhead angle. It would be good reference for those trying to learn shot selection and cue ball control of straight pool from the maestro himself.
wahahahaha wahahahaha truly a magician an artiste and a fucker hehehehe, long live my idol! idol nak ng pokwa no match silang lahat sayo! you are the man! pumalag dudurugin ko mukha! tyak un! long live bata! peace!
Yea that was a great shot at the end. He got bad shape on the shot before so he misses the rack entirely when trying for that last "break out" shot and ends up landing up table. He puts the cueball in jail on that last shot and to add to it, he gets a ball to the rail and near a pocket. Efren is amazing and so smart.
didnt know they made 120 p or i, its quite bad but still oh so good

Mosconi ran 526 balls in 2 hrs. 20 minutes. He didn't miss, he just quit because he got tired. IMO he's the G.O.A.T.

Reyes is a fine player but Mosconi, with a 16 World Titles and a 526 straight pool run is the GOAT IMO.
