Except for the gate, the robot was programmed to detect all of the obstacles with its forward and down cameras. Given the limited size of the arena, a full search wasn't necessary as most of the targets were visible as soon as the robot passed through the start gate.

Did the robot have to detect the obstacles or was it preprogrammed to follow a set path?
