  • When Linda looks directly into the camera with those beautifull huge brown eyes of hers.. I forget my name! She was absolutely breathtaking to me!.. the perfect woman. Her face is sooo pretty!.. that voice send shivers down your spina as well. An eternity looking at her would have been heavin!!

  • It's quite beautiful to see all these ladies sing this song together....I have albums of them independently and togerther these harmonies and piano are touching souls.

  • Linda looks so sad with those big brown eyes as she sings.. but very pretty like usual....

  • Come on. Linda. LINDA. L I N D A. The others are a poor substitute for the greatest voice of our time.

  • Love love love the McGarrigles' version - worth checking out, if you haven't heard it.

  • This is one of the cool things about YouTube. I've liked this song as done by Linda for years and years, but just now learned it was from Kate and Anna McGarrigle. I still learn something new every day.

  • What a lineup! Beautiful, but Linda looks so sad with those big eyes, even though she must've sung it a thousand times by then. Brava!

  • Linda Ronstadt did a beautiful cover of this song in '93, but it lacks the fragility and vulnerability of Kate and Anna's stunning original. Huge brown eyes and eyelashes to die for? It's about the music and songwriting - believe me, Kate and Anna were not intimidated, and I'm certain Linda R. was honored and humbled to share the stage with such phenomenal artists.

  • @donnacreation

I agree with what you said in your comments 100%! "It is about the music and songwriting" etc.

Kate & Anna are brilliant songwriters & singers so for someone to say that they are intimidated by Linda's looks and voice is ridiculous! It is a sad that people have to bring someone's looks, "hugh brown eyes & eyelashes to die for" when they should focus on the hugh talent of an artist's music & songwriting of Kate & Anna &not that they or other women are "intimidated" by Linda.

  • Linda sounding excellant as usual here--- I bet it is intimadating for other women to sing along side her, as she is so talented with that beautifull, strong voice of hers! Also she is beautifull in appearance too..so pretty!! she has huge brown eyes and eyelashes to die for. Her smile is like a ray of sunshine. Yes, she was a very special lady for sure!!!

  • WOW! these Ladies sound great.

  • So beautiful. I remember watching this concert when it aired back in the 80s and being particularly struck by this performance then. Thanks so much for posting it.

  • The other singers are Kate & Anna's sister Jane (in red top) and Maria Muldaur.

    Laurie

  • Anna McGarrigle -- who wrote this tune -- is one of the singers and she takes one of the verses. Kate is indeed at the piano. Not sure who the other singers are. This is a lovely version....

  • Wonderful music from wonderful singers. Wish I was able to be everywhere always so I can see performances like this as they happen. Thanks 1000Magicians, sheer magic.

  • I always liked Linda's country rock crossovers, but the number or McGarrigle songs she covered suprised me. As a Canadian I often think no-one realy takes our artists seriously. They broke the Top 40 with "Love over and over". I bet they were suprised that it was on the radio every night too.

  • @SororPisces I never underappreciated Canadian acts myself and I am in the USA. You guys had one of the most awesome rock bands off all time.... RUSH! I believe Aldo-Nova(spell??), bryaN ADAMS!,, was from the great white north as well? yOU GUYS ROCK IN MY BOOK

  • perfection

  • This is quite simply Phenomenal

  • What a shame Rufus is such a preening talentless fool.

  • @TheBitterWeed Lol. ...i...uh....LOL.

  • : Anna wrote the song.

  • I'm italian. We don't now the other singer...don't wanna be rude but i think Linda's voice is uncomparable. She is better than all of those other ladies ...Sorry my opinion.

  • @dazzlertyler Yes, Linda's voice is magic. The woman at the piano is Kate McGarrigle, who wrote the song (and many others that other people made famous.) She died last year and her kids (Rufus and Martha Wainwright) are doing some shows in celebration of her life. I'm sure she wouldn't think you were rude. She loved to see other people perform her music.

  • @susoyev This one was written by Kate's sister Anna.

  • This is a gem esp. with Linda's gorgeous voice and the sentitive voices of the McGarrigle sisters. I got to know the McGarrigles' music when I was at university in Canada and I never forgot them. At the time, Complainte pour Ste Catherine was their big hit. Twenty-five years later I found their CD La vache qui pleure in a shop near where I live in Belgium!

Kate is up thyere singing with the angels, no doubt. I would like to meet Anna one day. They have given us so much. MelanieS, Belgium

  • pure

  • This is awesome and ageless - it sounds a like Katie Melua song, but 35 years before Katie melua!

  • Wow There is Linda with Maria Mulduar and the McGarrigle Sisters Love this song!!!!!

  • @peppamartin

Who's the 5th woman? Jane McGarrigle?

  • @PhillySouth Yes, it is Jane

  • This piece is all about the McArrigle sisters and a haunting love song with brilliant harmonies...

  • life changing.

  • Beautiful piece. Thank you

  • thank you thank you thank you for posting these. What a treat to see Linda singing with the luminous McArrigle sisters.

  • @Seaclam67 wow thanks my friend for this great comment, you know (short) by mare chance I watch her live opening for Neil Young back in the early seventies (yes long time ago, well not much) and from that moment on I just fell i love with her and of course her wonderful and romantic voice then here career just took of and the rest is history, agree on all of you points regrading her lovely voice I just love her yes still, I do.

    Thanks

  • To me Linda has the best female pop voice of all time

  • Strewth, that brought me out in goosebumps. Wonderful.

  • I first heard Linda sing this song, it struck me way back then, it still does me now.

You can only 'get' this song if you have lived it :)

  • for quite a while I've theorized that the inspiration for James Camerons film Titanic is this song. the reason I suspect this is that in Camerons previous film "the Abyss" the cast sings along with Lindas version of "Willin" which was on the Heart Like a Wheel album, so cameron clearly knows and likes that album. plus, the neckless that cal gives rose looks exactly like the one on the album cover and is called the heart of the ocean. "my Heart is on that ship".

  • Linda Ronstadt doing Anna's song "Heart like a wheel", accompanied by Kate & Anna.

  • Thank you.

  • Wonderful recital.

    Grazie Laurie

  • Beautiful! Thank you! (You have an incredible wealth of recordings!)
