Hey Joe please help with this question. I never have like the way powerlifters bench press because it seems to me that it is cheating with the whole arching thing and basically bench pressing from ur stomach. I'm a boxer and I have always assumed that benching this way if u bench is not sport specific to boxing. So is it better if ur boxer an u wanna incorporate bench to take the bar straight down to chest and straight up. Please help with this question.
what wrong with heavy benching to boast your ego and compete with others. as long as u us good form. must people who say benching is bad for u, your only doing it for your ego, can't bench anyway. there just haters. bodyweight exercises don't build mass..

@p7ur1e It's called an arch which is recommended as long as you remain in contact with the bench with your glutes and upper back. Taking this position will help take away a lot of the stress on the shoulder joint and help keep tension in the upper back (scapula retracted).
go stuff there hashey. love when keyboard warriors like kevinwood open their mouths and have NO idea what they are talking about.. literally not a clue.. keep doing what your doing your vids are awesome and informative. Thanks
I guess its cool to have a max 350+ but you are doing tons of damage to your joints and body. This is ALL EGO!
I used to do the same thing when I was young (190lbs maxed 340) and I prob sound like a hippy here but try doing body weight exercises. There is NO reason to be lifting like this! It is for NOTHING aside from EGO. Again I used to lift the same way but I matured and actually became healthy. Gorillas are strong as shit and never lift weights, its all about body weight lifting!
@KevinWood44 Bodyweight lifting is important, but it is only part of the puzzle. I would suggest you look up overload and accomodation principles so you can better understand strength development. Also, proper form and resotration techniques might help you out. Thanks for the comment!
@KevinWood44 what if you are a big guy and your body weight IS heavy? like me. im not fat but i am tall and weigh 275 and work out with 315 on bench and over 500 on deadlift and squats on my rep work. i could go heavier, but isnt that kinda contradictory?
@luvsam924 No, this is not a "normal" speed day since we went heavy after the speed sets. Since it was a seminar we did different facets of training. Speed day would have went from the first speed sets into accessory work after and not heavy weights.
@getinthecarbitch ha, I have a bunch of bands that were kind enough to donate music for my youtube videos, I'll see if I can get some more out of them for you!
@thegamexxx1234 Core mostly, grip second on the straight bar sidebends. I only used the slingshot once - but it was nice. I bought it to try some overloading in our next 6 weeks of training and will be able to provide more accurate feedback then.
Would you think a bench press variation is a good idea for purely strongman training? Or to just stick to overhead and deadlift and squat. Its so hard to fit all the training in one week; theres no room to fit the bench in!
mean explosive power. good for MMA etc

@jkerns85 The arch is to maintain tightness in the glutes, upper back, and to protect the shoulders joints.

@jhashey K I just always assumed that when ppl arched it was to make the distance the bar had to travel shorter. thaks anyways
jkerns85 9 months ago
@jkerns85 you arch your back so that when you bring the bar down your don't ruin your shoulders..
