my great grandpa luetenant in the navy during ww2 and he got out of the and went in to the mearcheant marines his brother was in ww2 in the army in the south pacific great video
Despite legends and myths, not all of the great strategic campaigns over the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean were fought on jungle-covered islands or coral, sand and palm-tree dotted atolls. The nearly 16 month campaign in the Aleutians was one of the most fascinating, important and least known of World War II in which snow and ice replaced sand and coral and there wasn't a tree to be found anywhere!
I came across your video while searching for others on the Aleutian Islands. There is a new Facebook group dedicated to the descendants of Aleutian Island Veterans. If you or others you may know are interested the page is called Descendants of World War II Aleutian Island Veterans. It is a place to share stories and pictures. With so few people who know about the Aleutians and the unfortunate passing of so many veterans it is important that we keep the history alive.
Matt: Indeed very neat. My dad was the Navy Civilian in charge of the overall construction, there was a mix of See Bees and Civilians there...he is gone now, and seeing your pictures reminded me....

My dad was on Adak in 43. If he were still around I would show him this. Thanks for posting!
