Very possible. I know it had a 5 speed and a gear to gear transfer case. i never really looked into the differences between the years other than they stop using solid front axles in 85.
this is what I like to see, a guy proud to have a truck. Most douches on here would take that a beat the shit out of it, you seem to want to fix it up, good job and congrats on the Free Toyota

not being rude but the 79 came with a 4 speed. Maybe u scored a nicer tranny?

@money89tractors after speaking with the individual i traded this to, it was a 4 speed trans.
