Duran lost because he'd blown up to over 200 pounds between the first and second Leonard fight. He trained for sh_t, and clearly had no speed, legs nor endurance for the second fight. Leonard, for his part, was NOT going to get into a slugfest with him like the first time. (Actually, if you look at the first fight, Leonard won the later rounds when he went back to boxing.) Duran was a natural lightweight. At that weight, nobody could touch him. Even one weight class is a huge diference.
And in regards to pryor,I said he had absolutely no relevancy to leonards weight class and that is an absolute fact.Yet despite this,he was offered a fight and a career high purse and he turned it down,just like he would turn down a fight with duran as well.If you knew a thing about boxing,you'd have known about that.

The first fight was ligit. Leonard was 100% at Welterweight and Duran killed him. Duran threw the second fight. He wanted to fight, not play tag. By the time of the third fight, Duran was old and past his best. This is why Duran always ranks higher on P4P lists. Duran > Leonard

Roberto Duran couldn't land a solid punch on Sugar Ray Leonard in the Brawl in Montreal match. Leonard's foot work was just too crazy good. As much as some people don't want to admit, footwork is just as much in boxing as throwing good punches. You can throw the hardest punches in the world and still lose a boxing match if the other guy has much better footwork. This fight reminded me a little of the Rumble in the Jungle Fight between Casheous Clay and George Foreman. Clay had a ropeadope.

Duran lost because he'd blown up to over 200 pounds between the first and second Leonard fight. He trained for sh_t, and clearly had no speed, legs nor endurance for the second fight. Leonard, for his part, was NOT going to get into a slugfest with him like the first time. (Actually, if you look at the first fight, Leonard won the later rounds when he went back to boxing.) Duran was a natural lightweight. At that weight, nobody could touch him. Even one weight class is a huge diference.

The real point is, a fighter is responsible for himself. If you agree to fight then however you step into the ring is up to you. There are no excuses. Leanord went toe to toe in the 1st fight and did a hell of a lot better than people expected. He had nothing to prove in that area in the 2nd fight. He played to his strength and made Duran quit.

What's not legit about coming out of a long hiatus to fight somebody who was two divisions above his own weight class,who was regarded as the very best in the sport,and a man who was a clear and decisive favourite? @tapiaassasin Ray fought Hagler only after figuring out how to "beat" him. He demanded the bigger ring so he could run. He demanded the fight be in Vegas, where "flashy" boxers get points for show. He ran most of the fight and won his rounds by showcasing his speed in the last 30 seconds of every round, getting the crowd and judges excited. He wasn't great against Hagler, he was a business man. If you think Pryor was not relevant then you don't know boxing and the conversation ends there.

The first fight was ligit. Leonard was 100% at Welterweight and Duran killed him. Duran threw the second fight. He wanted to fight, not play tag. By the time of the third fight, Duran was old and past his best. This is why Duran always ranks higher on P4P lists. Duran > Leonard

He should have done what Leonard did when he ot that title and the light heavyweight title on the same night. the only fighter to ever win the light heavy title withought fighting a light heavy. Roberto Duran couldn't land a solid punch on Sugar Ray Leonard in the Brawl in Montreal match. Leonard's foot work was just too crazy good. As much as some people don't want to admit, footwork is just as much in boxing as throwing good punches. You can throw the hardest punches in the world and still lose a boxing match if the other guy has much better footwork. This fight reminded me a little of the Rumble in the Jungle Fight between Casheous Clay and George Foreman. Clay had a ropeadope.

A 38 year old Duran who was spent and again showed up for a payday. He beat SRL in his prime. To Duran he accomplished what he wanted. Remember, SRL was beaten to death 14 months later by a Terry Norris. They were sure Norris couldn't take a punch and Leonard's speed would catch Norris. Big mistake!

Don King was Duran's promoter. Leonard picked and chose his own promoters.
Duran moved up to light-middleweight after the 'no mas' fight. Leonard stayed at welterweight and had his sights on Tommy Hearns.
Given the way the second Leonard-Duran fight ended, there wasn't a huge demand for a 3rd match at the time.

Did Sugar ass whooped Duran NO. The fight was fairly even Duran was ahead in the score cards to be exact.
Did Duran quit because he was being schooled by Sugar NOT EXACTLY. Sugar had a solid game plan from the start. Duran just lost his composure. What Duran did was cowardice whatever you want to justify it. It was unprofessional and their no way to go around it, but don't ever say Sugar had Duran beat.
Coz if things were laid the way they should be Duran would had been the better fighter.
