However, in every day driving conditions on the road it's a lot closer than people think.
The reason for this is the volvo has a flat torque curve which means it pulls like a train in any gear and the AWD makes it much easier to get the power onto the road, especially from a launch as the video shows!

Brad: the M3 has got RWD, so it's harder to control the wheelspin and make a quick start.
By the way I wouldnt be surprised if a chipped 340bhp S60R would manage to do 0-100 in 5.4-ish if a launch control-ish technique were used...
The geartronic S60R is much slower tho, more than a second. Lots of reviewers complained about it, calling the manual version much more lively...

I love these kinda drags.. I own an E46 M3 also - Iv raced a few friends with S60Rs! I always win sorry Volvo boys. Iv driven the S60R - it is a great car - but it seems they can only take a small lead during rain ..but the M3 waks by the R likes its nothing after it gets its power down.
