This was post war britain. Still class ridden. If an actor did not speak like this - they could not get employed. The ad is 'lite' but not funny. The whole attitude was indicative of the social absurdity of the time. This has all broken down now (thank God). Americans could tell the difference between the Monarchy and Commoners - but not the total perversity of the English class system.

The colour chart was particularly useful lol. Hats off to the actors though. It must have been really tough performing that all day.
