You are entirely correct that YEC has such a variance with established scientific reality that it makes no sense. Yet there are still people who believe Bishop Ussher's fool nonsense of Earth beginning at 11:30 AM, Oct. 23,4004 BC is actually the age of the Earth as stated in the bible (which actually makes no statement as to the age of the Earth).
0:01 A literal translation of Genesis 1, that is, an ancient Hebrew/Sumerian approach to the text says nothing about Adam being "created", at least not the way modern thinkers understand it. They did not have the concept of creation that we do. We understand a material universe. They did not. The concept of creation to them had everything to do with functions and nothing to do with material. The premiss of your argument against christianity is therefore flawed. More accurate translations please.
Well, this video serves as a basis upon which I set the stage to refute creationist claims in subsequent episodes. Considering this 1/6 of the way through the series, maybe you should reserve your judgment as to if I've wasted my time. But you are free to waste your time elsewhere. Thanks a lot.
good job on these videos man. explains things thouroughly and does not only use science to back up the theorys but you also mention what people argue. it is also obvious that you do not blatently disregard the bible and have never read it or tried to interpret it. a work of pure facts and reasonable areguments. =]
In Genesis 1:4 "And God saw __ the light that it was good and God divided __ the light from the darkness"
So from that, do we assume that light and dark are one entity that takes a day to seperate? Or is it instructional, to help define the true Gods, totality?
Protastant tratment of scripture as a legal document that 'dropped from the sky ' leads to some confusion.
How are you definig Kosmos? (uni/vrs, world) Adams world, caveman to UR-banite?
did someone tell the Chinese this? 6000 written history, or Aboriginies in Australia of 30,000 years. I won't even talk about a flood, never told them either.
lol thats funny how there is written proof that there was no flood yet still they believe that it really happend gosh is there nothing that will change your ancient beliefs
dosn't Zartushti have a main part in Christianity? i heared that the three priests who gave Jesus his "gift" were Zartusht.
i think that Zartushti is the oldest religion in the world, maybe with Budism, but Zartushti is the official religion of Iran, not the illogical islam which is ruining Iran
Exploring the age of the Universe is a poor avenue of choice for those who cling to certain 'technical' and quantitative statements in the Bible, for there is no way in which the statements made therein could be taken seriously, it is wholly wrong. Zealots usually cling to the one thing which science cannot yet explain, and I stress the 'yet'. The perfect balance of the Universe, an inconceivably complex machine whose existence as we know it hinges on properties which are almost 'too perfect'
The speed of light is indeed 3x10^8 metres per second, and the light year is an astronomical unit of distance measurement, the distance said beam of light would travel in 1 year at it's velocity. We know galaxies are billions of light years away, so there are fairly accurate estimates as to the age of the Universe. The age is in the billions of years, so the figure of a few thousand which some interpretations of the Bible suggest is totally inaccurate
This is using one age to rationalize all 3:( Not well studied in the Word though it uses the Word to support it! I would love to document the 3 ages but to do so here like this would not be a reasonable work!
It is not reasonable to use what is explicitly told in the Bible to create a time line of historic events? Im not the first to have done this and most conclusions about the Biblical age of the Earth do not typically go beyond 10,000 years. If we cannot believe the specific dates and other claims in the Bible, how can we believe anything that is said? Should Original Sin, the Flood, and the Purpose of Christ be taken as just myths that never actually happened? That was not the author's intent...
you have not understood the context of my post! Many lack faith and understanding of the truth of the word! The truths of the AgeS is not found in this vid and because of this being sealed from such rationalizations it is understandable of such conclussions! I see no groth in this vid! That is me! Embrace what you will.^1
My lack of faith is prohibiting me from seeing the truth in the Word? How convenient, for the Word. Since you are of faith can you tell me what is the age of the Earth? Its not a secrete the Bible claims the Earth is young, less than 10,000 years, and science claims the earth is 4.5 billion. But, how does light from galaxies millions of light-years away reach the Earth if the Earth has only existed for a few thousand years? That's proof enough the Earth is not young. However, what do you say?
If you sincerly seek answers based on the Word you can see my in detail documentaion at beliefnet in the group "friends in Christ" thread "the ages". as to your question I am saying that the word agrees with carbon dating without your close minded view of the ageS! and if you were to turn on a flash light then put something in its beam would the beam not shine on it? This question has nothing to do with my point!
I don't think you understand MY point. If your flashlight is 1 billion light years away from where I am now, it would take 1 billion years for that light to reach me. I am not being placed in front of the flashlight, for I am 1 billion years away already. The Bible makes the assumption the Earth is relativity young, therefore this light should not reach us for another 990 million years. I wasnt aware the Bible supports the claim Earth is 4.5 billion years old -- thats what you believe?
You responce is not based on science for one! what I'm saying is that the earth was created in the beginning! The scripture u use are based only on first age documentation when you compare it to science! If you would checkout the site and thread I shared you would see that you are narrowing looking at the Word therefore missing the documentation on the subject you rasie! It's not hard just take some time and track down this documentation and then you may have something to teach in truth.
Of course my response is based on science. Light travels at 3.00^8 m/s -- a scientific fact. Anyway, I tried to checkout your thread; however, there was too much content on that page and I couldn't find your group. Can you send me the link?
I like how the title is specifically "biblical age". As in oppose to real age. Biblical timeline is pretty far from reality (Noah's Flood swept right over ancient cultures, and they didn't even notice...)
With all do respect, creation story is just what the name applies: a story. Every culture has one. Very little to do with the reality though.
That was exactly my point. However, you might be surprised at the great number of people that actually believe dinosaurs and humans coexisted and the Earth is ~6,000 years old.
And from the genealogy of the Royal House of Gondor, we can learn the age of Middle Earth.
According to Acts 7:2-4 Abraham left Haran 'when his father was dead'. According to Genesis 11:26, Terah begat Abraham at the age of 70, and Genesis 11:32 says Terah lived 205 years. That means Abraham was at least 135 years old when he left Haran.
Interesting analogy... So you feel the Bible has as much validly as the Lord of the Rings?
As to the age of Abraham when he left Haran -- I'm just going by what Genesis 12:4 states, feel free to look it up. However, in the grand scheme of things 60 years is not going to add or detract from the Bible's claim the Earth is very young.
Thanks for watching and giving your feedback. I now have parts 1-5 uploaded.
Hmmm...volumes and volumes of scientific data, or one old book that contradicts isself. Lessee....Ill take the data please.
