  • Cheers. This was driving me mad!

  • Thank you. I just broke the chain on my grand new, first-in-my-lifetime bike with external gears, and now I know why

  • I like to deride 'fixies' but I've heard the opinion that fixies are better for fitness because the rider does not get a chance to coast and the rider also feels more connected to the machine.

  • Thanks! Excellent info!

  • Informative! Thanks!

  • Well this is informative. I wasn't aware that certain gear combinations aren't supposed to be used...

  • In other words, manufacturers try to impress people with all these gears.

    Thanks--great video!!

  • use a singlespeed ;)

  • @rustypirat3 singlespeeds and fixies are for trendy hipsters who just want to look like people in urban outfitters catalogs

  • @egis27 man i pity you, can't even be yourself and enjoy a comfortable singlespeed cruiser, and definitely don't have the balls for BMX.

  • A useful video especially for people like me who knew nothing about how to use bike gears when I started ... broke quite a few chains..

  • Thanks Mate very useful indeed.

  • Thank you So Much! Finally ~ I understand cross chaining. Just becase the bike will do certain gear combinations, doesn't mean you should. I guess you could think of the bike as getting "cranky" when you force a cross chain LOL So... It then appears that you can come very close to any ratio, without forcing a cross chain. I'm going to go apologize to my poor bike.

    Cindy
