4:24 I remember that livery and knew it had something to do with Heathrow, but didn't know it was an advertisement for American Airlines, thank you for the video!
Great vids. Was wondering if you can help with a question I asked but got no reply.
I'm standing facing the front of a Northbound Picc train which enters Kings X. Before entering K X, the train passes over two points. The points on my right are a South/Heathrow bound crossover.
But where do the points on my left go to?
It's always been a spooky mystery since I was young. Any idea? Maybe a dead end for reversing but I've always been curious!
@LikeMindedIncident There is a single track connection to the Northern Line, used for stock transfer movements. At one time all Underground trains went to Acton Works for heavy maintenance and this was the way Northern Line trains reached Acton. The link is alos used by engineers' trains, many of which originate at Lillie Bridge, the original Piccadilly Line Depot.
@railroadrob2010 - Nice one Rob! This is confirmation! I was at the recent heritage run of old stock at Northfields and asked a couple of guys who said the same. I'd love to see it in use or even take a ride in a tube down there.
This was, apparently, to increase visibility for people working on the track, though I would have thought they would have HEARD an approaching train long before they could see it....
No matter how fast, how clean, how punctual, how convenient, how reliable, how central, how historic, how touristy, how utterly fabulous the Piccadilly Line may in fact be......, all I can think to write about is how funny it is when the posh tube announcer lady says Cockfosters.
Then I heard about the Cockfosters extension....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Even though i'm from Australia... I loved riding the piccadilly... It'll be the first thing i do when i come back in December! Gotta into london from theifrow some how!
AhHa! Now, after watching this and other vids I've noticed that the cars match the profile of the tunnels,(tubes?) but not always. Are the rounded tunnels the older tunnels?
no, the bigger underground trains on the circle line, hammersmith and city and metropolitan line run on the oldest which is only a few feet under the streets. the smaller ones though are about 100 foot under the street
Very Interesting! I'm a Yank so can someone explain why the doors are open on the top? It seems to me this would allow rain to enter the car any time the train stopped outside a covered station.
yeah sometimes it does! yesterday i went to collage on the piccadilly line and it was pooring with rain but it was windy too so it ment i got went because i was standing next to the doors (and the train was packed)!
This is a great bit of footage and thanks for posting it. I grew up near the line in Ealing in the 60s & 70s (I lived between Boston Manor & Northfields). Not all of the 15 1938 stock trains had been withdrawn from the line by the time the '73 stock appeared and it was possible for a very short time to ride on a 1938, 1959 and 1973 stock train on the same day.. (I know coz i did it! :0)
It was United not American lol

When this video reports about Aldwych, that's what I associate with Piccadilly Line.

We realised that as soon as we released the dvd, but it was too late to do anything about it by then!

What was the reason for the unrefurbished 197e tube stock having red cab ends?

What they say about Hounslow West is not strictley true, the building that you see today was built to replace the one used for the District line.
f1baker 2 years ago
That's as maybe, but it was STILL the original Piccadilly Line station, even though it was shared with the district until the early '60's.

It's basically to allow you to get out of the train without banging your head.
